  1. Nick, any idea how the lake looks Out of Sodus right now? Thinking of running up for a couple of hours tonight mike
  2. Got out of work ran out @6:30pm to get some rods down. Temp was 48 110 feet down 130 fow. Banged a king on the wire, 42 spinny 300 ft. Rigger tripped with KOS at 90ft with a nicer king 23 lbs. Hit a skippy on Sea sick down 90 as well. Stayed tight to 130 to 140 fow. Nice night to be out. Mike.
  3. Some good points from everyone, now the question I have is will the Steelers go to the Superbowl this year?
  4. Just a small side it on the crossbow vs compound speed, energy debate. Compounds can be faster than the average crossbow, however newer models like the Barnett that shoot 400fps are with a 400 grain bolt/broad head total weight. Now if you did the math on kinetic energy that would be 142 ft lbs out of the shoot. Compounds can't do that. In fact if you ramped your draw weight up to a crazy 80 lbs on a coumpound and shot 6 grains per inch on an arrow which is like damn near redline line you wouldn't reach a 100ft lbs. So yes you can make a compound shoot faster by shooting a tooth pick, high crazy poundage and probably couldn't consistently hit the mark at 30 yards but off the shelf the crossbow is faster, flatter and has more energy than the off the shelf compound.
  5. My intent wasn't to start this crossbow debate all over again lol. Was just wanting to hear if there were any updates on the new bill that passed the senate this passed June. I always get a kick out of this debate. A lot of people seem to lose the message that hunting is slowly diminishing with interest by how the avg age is creeping upwards annually. With that said how do we get younger adults involved? As far as the crossbow being too easy, yep it's easier to hit the mark than a compound. Will that make the traditional archer switch to a crossbow? Nope. His intent is not for ease but for the challenge that goes along with it. Last time I checked the bill doesn't prevent anyone from having to change or forced to go to crossbow. Now it comes down to "but your taking my deer with something thats easier than I'm using for that particular season". Please, if this were the big issue someone should try and post the nuisance permits that are being handed out right and left to hunters, not farmers on land that is not open to anyone but the landowners buddies. We still have deer issues in certain areas. Now for NY's deer management program, I'm sure Huntin guy could tell you the monsters that are in Ohio. There hunting season and regulations are built around making quality deer. This includes crossbow. They have a longer season, more record deer are harvested each season and yet NY can't seem to get it. your allowed one buck, take it however you want, shotgun, bow, crossbow, but your allowed only one. If i had more time id be hunting in Ohio fulltime. The Ohio DNR truly has it going on. Before you take a stance on the issue you should really take a few minutes and read about Ohios deer program and ask yourself if what were debating is the true issue.
  6. Huntin guy what did you hear about the crossbow bill? Everything I've read says its still under DEC review after it passed the senate?
  7. Nick, was out this morning for a quick bit, try the 100ft mark 60 to 70 ft down. There's some surprises awaiting!
  8. Sounds great I'm in. Looking forward to it. See everyone out there. Mike
  9. Gang, just some questions, daily legal limit? just on the trout and salmon or does that include bass as well? Heaviest cooler I assume wins? Can a basic member of LOU join in? Can I launch anywhere on the lake and then meet at weigh ins at Myers at 1pm? Thanks for the help.
  10. The proposed crossbow bill made it through the Senate on June 12 and is now for comment at the DEC. hope it's not too late for this year. Well have to wait n see.
  11. Yikes..... Anyhow it must be the Deet in the Buggs Spray that makes the stuff work. Says 25%Deet. For those flys now that sit in the back of the boat upset they can't get to your ankles, I bought a portable tower zapper to see if that rids them, it didn't work. Guess ill stick with the spray.
  12. I had a couple perch done from Larry at Clingermans a few years ago plus a deer and were awesome. I'm not really sure though who is running the shop at this point.
  13. My elite 7 is awesome during daytime. I'm sure most of the new units are better these days than older units. Anybody remember cupping your hands around the Interphase 20/20 back in the day lol
  14. Go with Lowrance, spend the money and get one with GPS. You'll be glad that you did. When your in search mode looking for fish, bait etc, it will be worth it. As far as models, Elite 5 base combo, the dsi stuff I wouldn't worry about, is a good start. I had one and loved it, then they came out with the elite 7 lol.
  15. I have had good luck with 40lb big game spliced in with 17lb flouro at the end.
  16. Nick, great as always following your trip and information you provide. We may hit the water tonight if storms stay away. Have a safe trip home.
  17. Nick with only a steelie and the clouds comin we took your advice hit the dockers at oak park marina. Clam poy boy. Gone. Good food.
  18. Chinook, used it this am, worked great, was no fragrance like you said. And I didn't have to drink this stuff.......
  19. Sorry to hear Les, at least you didn't lose anything or get caught in the rain, went to sodus and just missed a cloud as well but made it in ok. mike
  20. Jim congrats, looks like your all over working those downrigger s nice job. Enjoy your season!
  21. Nice fish. What ever is in that spray which is probably the 25% deet, kept them all in the back of the boat. Now I'm thinking of going to walmart and getting a portable insect zapper to rid them.
  22. Sorry we missed ya out there Nick, didn't think we would make it through that second wave of rain. Hot zone was that 190 -180 Nice bow on the slider with 3 rips on the dipsies but nothing home. The bugs, not a problem, got the Buggs spray the other day that was mentioned on here Stuff worked awesome.
