Finally figured out why spring hasn't shown up yet........
Frogger replied to Frogger's topic in This Old Boat
Well it's been roughly a month on this Transom project. Put it back together, riveted it and It's time for paint. Brought it to the paint shop this morning. Can't wait for it to be done, hook up the new steering, few drain plugs and we should be set. Proud to say this will be my last transom project. Lol. All in all glad it's near completion. Now it's time to clean out my mess in the garage. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -
Good to hear Les. Get well soon.

That does look cool Les. Rumor has it ice was down to Kashong today. South wind though is gonna bust it. Man we needed just another week with no wind. I can't even imagine what the winters were like in the 1900's for Seneca to freeze. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Thanks Les, Im glad I had the urge to dig into it now rather than later, Wasnt all that bad really getting at it, motor was a little heavier than I thought or im getting older, but I can tell you putting a chainsaw in the back of the boat was something I wasnt ready for but worked like a charm. Roughrider, if you dont mind Ill pm ya on the Seacast. Ive been going around and ready to order it from them. Would be good to get some tips from ya if your up to it. I think SeaNymph along with some other boat manufacturers didnt know the ramifications of using PT wood even though they advertised 10Yr hull warranty. Oh well. The Seastar hydraulic system is on the way then the EV100 auto pilot. Cant wait to be out setting lines...... -
We'll I broke down this weekend and tore into my transom on my Sea nymph GLS 195. After seeing some dis colored water coming from the drain (reddish) this fall I was getting worried that the wood was shot and there might be some intrusion of water. After lifting off the motor and pulling the cap, low behold, a rotted transom. We'll after a day of using crow bar and chainsaw it's out. I could also see where corrosion has started on the inside skin probably from the effects of using treated plywood when they made the boat. Any way this is what I expected so no surprises. Next steps will be to clean the skins, JB weld the spots and decide whether to use wood epoxied or a Seacast pour. I'll keep ya posted, warm days should be coming our way now that I finally dug into this. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

For Sale : USA Brand New Victrola
Frogger replied to SCUBASLIM's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Les, I can still remember to this day being out in front of the Legion in the spring, Bobby and I in his 16fter as kids right before dark and seeing him lose a monster Laker at the back of the boat. Wire was at our feet everywhere...... Back then that fish was a 30 lber, which in reality was a nice 12-15 lber........ -

Nice looking box. For those not knowing, a deadly presentation to lakers on the fingerlakes. Imitates a baitfish, sculpin, dancing from rock to rock on the bottom. As you let line out the weight takes it to the bottom with the twin minnow skipping on the rocks. You hold the line somewhat steady while trolling slow and wham. Laker on. Give me a Blue Mullet Pflueger and now you got some fun. Once he's hooked you just pull him in and the victrolas spring winds it right up. If you have never seen it you should try it. -

I think as long as the bait is certified and you have the receipt verifying that, your good, if it's not cert, I think there s a transportation issue but there is a stipulation for a travel corridor on Lake Ontario that might allow you to transport them. Someone on here I'm sure would know. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

I could see it now, tip up spools with 500 ft of braid lol. Light house looks like the wind took whatever was there out to sea. Mike, your question on the deep lakes, has all to do with mass. The more water, the more it takes to freeze. Lake Erie being shallower allows it to cool / warm more quickly than Ontario. With that said, Lake Superior, freezes some, the deepest of the great lakes but because it is more North (colder) then them all. Good news would be there would be less lake effect snow with more ice on the lakes. Rumor has it if temps stay low through February we could see record ice amounts.

It might for sure if we get some calm nights..... If it does, I'm gonna get some of the biggest bait I can find and dig a hole around the old light house pier. Has to be some monsters in there.....

Using Bow mount electric trolling motor for Auto Pilot steering
Frogger replied to Frogger's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Agree Chas, that's what I'm wondering, but I would use the electric motor for drifting on the bar or for perch on Seneca. Just read some of the forum on that GLangler, some good reading on the topic. -

Steelydan, using for steering your boat with using the big motor I'm assuming? What speed is the electric going when it's not too windy? How we'll does it work? Is it the cats meow or is it just ok and I'd be better off using the 1200.00 for something else? -
Using Bow mount electric trolling motor for Auto Pilot steering
Frogger replied to Frogger's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Thanks Chas, I will probably do both, helps when perch ect on the fingerlakes but really looking foward to using it as a steer for auto pilot if it works. Im thinking im going to need a 60inch shaft from the way my boat sits out of the water but havent measured it yet. My boat is not that heavy <2000lbs so I wouldnt think I would need any more than 85lbs but not sure. Was hoping not to have to go with 24v only to stay away from having 4 batteries on the boat. When you troll and use it to steer is the thing running low , med, fast? or does it speed up on its own when it needs to track back to course? I will check on that sight you gave me as well. -
Can anyone provide some input on if you have experience using your bow mount trolling motor for GPS auto pilot steering when trolling. I have read a couple of threads where this has been done but not a lot of information as to how much battery drain occurs during a day of trolling ot what speed does the motor run on. Do you need the 24 volt system? How much thrust 50 or do you need as much as 110? I have the Sea Nymph 19 ft and already have the dual batterys system with 4 electric DR. Any insight would be helpful, and theres never too much information, thanks guys.
