  1. well it's been a while since I've been on, work finally slowed down and finally got the boat out there was a catfish derby in owego this weekend, started Saturday at 7am and ended sunday at 12 we keep lines in the water for 25 straight hours, 525 entries we finished in the top 15-20 unfortunately, we heard from the head guy, 4 people on the board were being DQ'd for cheating 97 youth entries and our youth finished in the top 5 at first we thought we had a winner, nope 25# carp my buddies nephew did a hell of a job 8.25# this was a hell of a fight in that current someone forgot the spatula it got cold, trying to stay warm on an all nighter
  2. I can promise you this story is B.S I beleive he got one with a tag, i have seen them with collers several universities do study the travel patterns....they tag them and use GPS collers why is it everyone of these stories...starts with my buddies uncles cousins nephews buddy edit to add http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/esfcoyote09.pdf

NO youth hunt move the bow opener back to the 15th there are a lot of 12 and 13 year kids that will not get a chance to hunt NOW....that is not helping i use to take 1st timers out the first couple weeks of october....shoot some rabbits...turkeys....crows this will do more harm than good.....they can bowhunt that's what my kids will do
  4. I HATE IT I think it's going create a lot of hunter conflict...yes i bowhunt...but i also like to small game hunt we hunt in the souther teir, and there is a lot of hunters down here what about the guys that wanted a couple weeks to turkey hunt? shoot grouse? maybee run the beagles for a couple weeks before deer season...we all share the same land besides if we need 8 weeks to fill a deer tag....maybee we should take up golf
  5. a new secret bait for next years derby's a mans finger found in laketrout stomach http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/hon ... ks-later-l
  6. thanks for posting splitshott this was a great event glad I was entered....can't seem to put them in the boat during the derby's.... however it is fun haveing the weigh in rite at the park ...get to meet a lot of good people...share some good stories grand prize = trolling laker division = jigging rainbow/ salmon = drifting sawbellies it's pretty cool to see all forms of fishing putting fish on the board
  7. early riser I'm sorry for this, but all 3 of your fish would of made the board that is a beautiful rainbow by the way Actually vogel451 your wrong....the grand prize winner was a 10lb 5oz laker... the rainbow may have won the lunker pool as the guy that caught the laker didn't enter the lunker pool
  8. on another website a charter captain, went on a rant about his boat is for fishing NOT TOWING.... and he refused to tow anyone total chaos
  9. august is a tough month for me... birthdays and anniversaries ... and 12 hour work days I only got out twice in 3 weeks I did finally convince my brother to go, he is the fisherman in the family, we fished the east side, from myers to AES, bite was slow to nothing at all, my brother did manage 1

  11. alec, the only thing that has worked for me, is the 5 gal Frabill mino-magnum, it ls lined with styrofoam if i by 2 doz I only lose 4 or 5 now

  13. the morning of the lighthouse derby we were setup jigging a mile south of AES....here comes a troller he came within 50 feet of us my partner tells me if he gets any closer i'm gonna bounce a 1oz jig of his mellon..... I told him let it go .... guys just a **** point being ....always going to be that guy out there.....1 bad troller don't mean their all like that....1 bad jigger...don't mean their all like that sad thing is....those guys will come here for tips.....but will never register by the way...I'm the big guy....in the little green crestliner...if I get close let me know rustyrat....if you got sandwiches and beer...you can troll as close as you want....but you have to throw me one
  14. I have completely figured out when fish bite If I'm by myself ...I can't keep them out of the boat....whenever I take someone with me they stop biteing for me the hardest part is finding them, new F/F should help... I might take some heet for this...and I know people talk highly of John, however after reading his temper tantrum on someone asking for a tow I quit reading his reports.... I understand in can be a pain in the A$$, however I can't leave someone floating in the middle of the lake...it's just not rite and if you can't see the difference in someone broke down on the side of the road and someone floating in the middle of the lake....you'll never get it
  15. bigherg, we were definately hitting some of the same spots today.... trouthunter that last hour before dark can get exciteing, it was a tough bite, but after the beating we took during the lighthouse derby, it did feel good to land some fish
  16. took my little cousin out for his first time boat fishing....it was a tough bite...fished from 7 to 2 had 7 or 8 tail biters...and landed 6 all small fish today...fished from AES... north 2 to 3 miles ....all released and looked good did catch our smallest to date...a 10" laker with all fins......lots of bait...did i mention lots of bait it was a GREAT day to be on the lake...their was very little boat traffic today
  17. early most of my jigging is done at night, my wife dont get up early I have caught some jumbo's at night, and some good numbers as well the last hour before dark can get awesome, for me the hard part is getting the jigs down when the lake gets rough, I cast down wind, seems to help

  25. I used this setup quit a bit in the beginning, however I have not used it in quit a while I was getting horrible hookup rates with the cheap bass pro jigs I had, the hooks were horrible, this system helped because I could buy good treble hooks I got some of Hermits jigheads and now thats all I'm useing, them hooks are sharp, and thinner, really helps with setting the hook you should see my poor thmbs
