  1. Seems like the combos that Cabelas sells for Dipsey Diver rods are 9' rods, medium action with the Okuma Convector reels for $114. I thought that a DD rod was like 6-7' and not 9'? What does everyone prefer for a DD rod length. I will only be running 2 DD rods in my setup
  2. Just got a lead from a friend on a 2002 Mercury 9.9 kicker. Should be ideal for my Islander 221V! I hope it works out! Guy wants $450 for it, has new tank and line.
  3. For my 2 dipsey diver setups thinking about ordering the DD Depthmaster rods from cabelas and outfitting them with the Okuma Coldwater 30A reels..Can have them for $74 a piece with that setup
  4. Ah, that is true. I forgot that you aren't bring them back in each time! duh!
  5. Well that is good because that is what I bought
  6. I have a Garmin Rhino 530HCX handheld that I use hunting. ITs color and has the best GPS receiver of any handheld. also works on 5W..They are pricy but well worth it.
  7. Well I got my 2 new Okuma Downrigger rods and Magda 30LC Reels...the only thing I can say is WOW. Coming from a walleye fisherman all my life using lesser tackle when I took these out of the shipping box I was surprised! That is some big equipment!
  8. So is there a problem with running both boards when your closer to shore? Or is this one of those "unwritten rules" that I should know before my first voyage on the Big O?
  9. Thanks for the help. So basically the screw adjusts the "clamps" to tension it..seems alittle weird to me, I am used to the pads. what does everyone use to determine what to set it at? Also, is this Amish Outfitters really run by Amish or are they just piggybacking on "Amish" products..You ever watch that Amish reality show about the Amish Mafia?
  10. Hey that is sweet. Could easily make up something like that
  11. Seem to b hearing about allot of lampreys in Cayuga. Only fished that once. Relatives from trumansburg
  12. Unfortunately we do not have any marinas that I know of that have ever possibly installed electric riggers. Our lake is more of a lead line lake and only averages 30feet
  13. Ok so I just got my clippers. Ordered lime green and got orange. Oh we'll unfortunately my planer board line is orange too. Anyways the bag came with a bunch of rubber bands and no directions. What do I do with the rubber bands?
  14. So I have been given an older set of Canon Electric Downriggers. I would say that they are mid to late 80's vintage. Dont know model yet. My islander came with an interesting connection for the previous electric big john riggers that it had it on. basically the previous owner wired using a 12GA standard lead cord to the battery I believe. Then he mounted a standard outlet strip to the bottom of his homemade downrigger bracket. he would simply plug the riggers into it. I want to do it the more conventional way. any thoughts? Also, the islander does not have a batter switch but does have one cranking battery and one deep cycle
  15. Interested in what the goin rates are in general on Lake O compared to where I am from on the Great Sacandaga. Typically the lowest docking price for a 20' boat is $1,250. It will go up each foot $40.
  16. I have an older 1991 4.3L Mercruiser carburated in my islander. will be my first year changing the oil. What should I run for oil weight in her?
  17. I have a VHF with long antenna on my Islander that I bought last year. When trying to get it to work it doesnt. needs some TLC. the connector that goes from the antenna to the back of radio is crappy. I think it is a Uniden
  18. This is the kind of stuff that makes me nervous. I have heard stories about lake O during peak salmon times when you are basically trolling along with 50 other boats in the same area. This to me is intimidating. I would most likely bail out of there and look for less populated water around the edges until I became comfortable out there. are there any "unwritten rules" from all of you experienced guys out there that us newbys should know about?
  19. For my 1991 Starcraft Islander 221V. min of 6HP
  20. Ok thanks. I can do that. What color Big Game seems to be the best?
