  1. Now you are talking my language! We pull monster northerns thru the ice here on the Great Sacandaga (former world records northern was from the GSL)..did you weigh her? I am thinking a 42" post spawn would be in the low 20lb range? Our largest northern thru the ice is 48" weighing 36lbs. Here is one we got back a few years ago.
  2. Has anyone tried the Berkley 100% Flourocarbon line yet? (Not the vanish stuff)
  3. the Plant meaning that large smokestack on the East Shore?
  4. I guess I do not understand the lb rating on swivels..Was in a store last night looking at eagle claw ball bearing swivels. they are numbered..1,2,3 etc..what does that mean? I did not see any lb rating on the package
  5. My new to me 1986 Merc 9.9 wasent running all that great. I fogged the hell out of it with SeaFoam. Purrs like a kitten now
  6. anyone have a pic of flea buildup on their line for me to see? I have never experienced them
  7. what lb swivels does everyone use? I have read 30lb?
  8. I like salmon from Hannaford.. I have never eaten salmon out of Lake O. I would assume it tastes the same as the pacific salmon for the most part? When I do get one someday, I will most likely prep it like I do with salmon from the store. Cedar plank, very low temp on outdoor grill. Then I will get a decent smoker and smoke it at some point
  9. I am getting a new prop for my 221 Islander. The current one has a few dings in it. I am considering a 4 blade prop. better hole shots, will keep on plane at lower RPM and will knock off 1MPH at trolling speeds.
  10. Which brings up the point of this proposed Boaters Safety Course that NYS is working on for EVERYONE no matter the age. I really hope that the course also incorporates some hands on training when it comes to trailering your boat and launching it etc. I love these guys who buy a brand new $50k boat that is more than they can handle as new boaters and try to navigate..
  11. KD, kudos to you for posting this. Some would pocket the loot and not say a word
  12. Sucks to say that all public launches should be manned. I know I know, more tax dollars to pay for a person to be there.
  13. That sucks. do you have spare plugs for the kicker? I always pack at least 2 extra sets and tools to change them. can be difficult but worth it. I also always start each motor and get them running on the trailer with muffs. you just never know
  14. I am planning on a trip to Fair Haven. We would stay at the State Park in the RV. Are there any particular maps showing depth that I could access prior to coming? Especially if they had the landmarks on them. Iknow what the bluffs are, but some of the other landmarks in this thread I have no idea
  15. anyone considered a 4 blade prop? Wonder what the difference is
  16. I know what you are saying. I dunked my boat for the first time this season today. Being Memorial Day and being a nice one at that after a crappy few days the boaters were out in full force. Probably the most amusing thing for me to watch today are folks trying to back down the ramp. Then not hitting the dock..I pulled into the ramp today and I love it when boats are at the ready to launch area and they have their wives or girlfriends unloading stuff from a second car into the boat parked right in the way of traffic. Maybe they didn't see me with my Dodge Durango and the 23' Islander in tow..haha. I find it funny that I can back my 23' islander down the ramp, unload it off the trailer and be parked before some folks trailer tires get wet. You get some pretty funny looks from some of them..like "how in the hell did yeah..."
  17. I have seen some cool video of people taking extended boat trips on the Great Lakes. Seems to be lake Michigan is popular. Basically cruising from port to port and seeing the sights. Anyone ever done this on this forum? Sounds really cool. None of the trips that I have watched did any fishing though! Just curious to know if anyone has done this or had thought about it..That would be awesome to me! Especially if there were a small group of boats doing it together.
  18. good idea. will get to that this weekend
  19. I just signed up for a 3 month subscription. At least it will get me started on aquiring tackle!
  20. thanks for the tip! Being a local business owner myself, I like to support the small guys
  21. I need them all! Where is the best place for a one stop shop? Will be over the net for me as where I live there really are not any tackle shops that specialize in salmon/trout tackle. this is walleye country
  22. my 1991 Islander's windshield wiper (electric) stalls out about half way through the sweep. The horn on the boat also will sound off one time then wont work again for awhile..Any thoughts? I have been looking in west marine for a new motor for the wiper, cant find one. the horn deal, no idea.
  23. Where does everyone get their spools of Big Game? I have looked at Bretts..seems like a fair price. I have 2 30 class reels for my riggers I want to fill with 30lb..I believe that I can put on about 300 yards each spool..then 8' flouro 18lb leader.
