As far as what I have heard, all of the launches in the eastern basin are open, with the exception of Sackets Harbor. They all have high water, and tall boots are a necessity if you want to stay dry. In terms of launching a bigger boat, I don't think you will have any trouble. There is plenty of water to float it at the launch. By the time you are standing on the dock with the boat floating off the trailer, you could be in five to six feet of water.

SSW wind this week is pushing even more water into the eastern basin too. Not good.

Seeing how the "water pump" was replaced in 2016, there is only one season on it. With that in mind, it should not have gone bad already. It might be worth piece of mind to inspect the intake, the duct work from the pump, etc to see if it is clogged. A year old water pump service should not have failed so badly, unless you run it in some serious muck, or something is clogged, disconnected, etc.

Just a side note. With all the drama in the classifieds lately, I just wanted to vouch for this guy as a seller. I have bought from him in the past. Very straight forward and honest guy. He fishes this boat on a regular basis. He knows his stuff. If I were in the market for a boat, I would have no reservation in looking seriously at his rig. I had a Johnson 115 that would do that, then run fine, bog down, run fine. Turns out the new coils I had put on weren't plugged in tightly, and were only making a solid connection intermittently. It all depends on the detail you require, and the detail the gps provides. The river bottom is VERY variable. There are so many shoals and rock piles that most are not marked. If you have the Navionics chip in your Lowrance, it should have the detail you need if the chip covers the river.

Perch and SMB are not terribly difficult to find in the St. Lawrence River. Unfortunately, neither are the shoals. If you don't know the river, have a good map/GPS on hand.

I was out in the Chaumont bay last night, and unless my eyes are deceiving me, the navigational buoys are not out there yet. The marker buoys next to the state launch are in though. The only bouy you really need is the one for Johnson shoal. Just a heads up.

What if the water goes down to the point that the spawning area dries up to the point it can not sustain pike and muskie fry that are stuck there? That sounds possible this year, as well as the water receeding. I am really interested to see how this season shapes up. Some say to skip the bays, and just head to the deep water haunts. Some say it will be hotter fishing in the bays with all the water to play around in. Going to be interesting. One thing is for sure, be careful of the floating and partially submerged crap out there. It is astounding the amount of stuff that has flushed out of the rivers, and floated off the beaches and is just bobbing around out there. Logs, whole trees, tires, docks, picnic tables, etc.

Guys,and gals. I was out on Chaumont bay today. I gotta tell ya, be careful out there. There is so much crap floating, bobbing and suspended out there it is scary. I backed the throttle all way off and idled around. I know everyone is excited to chase eyes, but this high water is floating everything off the shores, and the variable winds are taking it every which way. I saw a METAL pipe sticking out of the water today where it shouldn't be. I saw a tire bobbing around. I saw a log big enough to take your lower unit off if you were on plane. The guy pumping gas into to my boat spoke about complaints of a dock floating free. This opener will see some stranded boaters if we are not careful out there. Be careful out there this weekend. Are you sure about that. I just finished my course and am going through the final stages of the application process. I have not seen or found anything that says a TWIC is no longer required.
