    I will say that guy you can't use anything you catch as bait. For instanct dont get caught using a fresh caught goby as bait on Cayuga they frown upon that for some stupid reason

    To be honest every size spoon from little mini scorpions all the way to magnums have days they work. Super slims and the regular size are actually most common

    O yeah I'm not doubting the fact it's a secret and I know why for sure the amount of money that little boat has cashed checks for over the years has got to be insane I'm just saying with fishing live bait in general they know their game you are right about it being different than drifting for sure though. In my opinion if you were going to bother trying to use live bait you might as well anchor over a pod of fish and still fish them to maintain the proper presentation like mentioned above of minimal resistance when a fish grabs the bait. I know when I fish slipbobbers from shore that you have to let the fish run and a lot of the times they will run, drop the bait then run with it again before you can connect. Another thing was the choice of bait and this is kinda me letting out one of my old secrets... people think you need big bait like sawbellies or bass minnows but we used to fish year around off the pier in Watkins or the shore of tfalls with perch minnows under the float even when sawbellies were in do to them being cheap and easy to keep alive and most the time they outfished sawbellies

    I feel like the best group of guys to answer this in the finger lakes are the crew of the "green machine" aka bill Ryan and his crew they are known for their live bait fishing in the series and take money in most the ones they fish with huge fish mostly huge browns. I'd love to be a fly in the boat one day to witness their program. I can tell you they use light leaders and small hooks from speaking to them when they weighed their 18lb brown a few years back in the memorial day derby

    I tie direct to spin doctor swivel. Actually I take the front swivel off all my spin docs when I get them and put them in terminal tackle box then my rigger rods for flashers and my dipsys for flashers all get one tied on the leader then I just snap the swivel direct to whatever flasher I want to run. Always have been taught the less connections and less hardware the better and I have no issues with line twist. My rigger rods that I run spin docs off are set up with a ballbearing swivel then 6-8ft floor leader and on my divers I tie the leader direct to the diver. Just my opinion

    Will post a report from t falls tomorrow. Don't plan to fish super tight to short with planer boards but going to be just outside that water with short cores and coppers and riggers

    To add to that the reason why riggers are more important IN MY OPINION is you can target the exact water column you want to fish and with the combination of a probe you can target the right speed and temp

    I fish out of a 14ft deep v and I have it set up with 2 Scotty manual downriggers, 2 down eastern rod holders per side that can be used for dipsy divers or Seth green rigs and I have a set of triple trees on it used for pulling inline boards or for when I'm pulling flatlines off the big planer boards off the planer mast mounted near the bow of the boat. Before I had the rigger mounted we pulled one Seth green rig,one wire dipsy and 3 inline boards with copper or leadcore per side and ran a dipsy set to "0" and caught a lot of fish. Since I got the downriggers we ditched the Seth greens and are capable of running all of the above with the addition of an extra dipsy rod per side plus we run the riggers with a slide cheater on them. When we fish with 3 guys total our most common set up Is 2 riggers (each with spoons and slide cheaters), 2 wire divers with spin doctors, and 5 inline boards (tx22's) with either copper or leadcore with spoons or stickbaits. This set up usually produces plenty of action. Don't ever doubt the size of your boat as you can do plenty from a 16fter.     Ok so I have a question for anyone out there who uses an okuma coldwater 45 for wire divers. How much backing does it require under the 1000ft of wire to properly fill the spool to keep the counter accurate. Usually we use a 30 size reel because the 1000ft guys perfect but we got a deal on the 45s. Just checking if anyone has done this. One guy told me just throw 1000ft of wire on with no backing but figure the line counter will be off and we won't be gaining anything from having a bigger spool for retrieval speed like that.     Sure they want to do this because some people struggle to kill mallards and there was a little dip in the population meanwhile the redhead population is healthy and abundant and it's still sitting at 2

    Make sure you dont just rely on bayrats. They are great sticks however some days different actions of different brand sticks seem to produce better. I will say after the past few springs my top producers have been a mix of bayrats, rapalas (f7, f9, f11 aswell as the scatter rap series in the same sizes) and various thunderstick jrs have worked well. Also it has been said already but Michigan stinger spoons in scorpion and the regular size are great. My 2 favorite colors are bloody nose and mixed veggies

    Thanks! Neither one of is were to proud of our shots on deer this year bug it happens i guess. Sometimes it aint pretty but persistent tracking efforts pay off
