I fish alone a lot . Especially for staggers after Labor Day . My setup is 1 line on each rigger . If you run them back the same lead and 10 ft apart vertically you can turn on a dime and stay on top of the marks . Use this to your advantage . If it's calm , maybe one rigger and 1 dipseys . If you are shallow , don't be afraid to run long rigger leads 75 to 125 ft with ball 2 ft down .

A safe boating course won't stop something like that Had something similar happen to me a few years back 4th of July . Fishing bass off the pipeline at Sandy . Boat hauling a tube flew by and missed me by about 15 ft . I saw the gold chain on the laddies neck . They were watching the tube and not looking where they were going . And don't forget the day Gator cut off that guys dipseys off Sandy a few years ago . 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄

how to store dipsy divers and leaders

I use a slide divers a lot and also regular dipseys . I use braid exclusively so I don't have to worry about kinks I leave my divers on all the time . I wrap the line around the reel and hook the snap or spoon on to a guide about half way up so the diver is midway on the rod or so . A guy gave me about 100 ft of this flat nylon rope . I cut off 2 ft , burn the ends and put an overhand knot . I criss cross the diver around the rod and tie a square knot . Works awesome . Cheap . Some sort nylon braided rope 1/4 inch should do the same . -
Yeah , really don't think the course would benefit me in any significant ways reason being as I've been an avid boat owner for almost 50 years. But if I don't have the certificate and something happened , maybe insurance would be less likely to cover the loss as they would have a reason not to . And agreed Rolmops, why take a chance .

Our best spots were as you head out of Naples Bay and get to the intersection( where the police boats sit ) of heading straight to Marco or right to Gordon pass , about 250 yards past the intersection on the left , drift and cast , there are a ton of Ladyfish usually . Or head right to Gordon pass and that whole shoreline along Keywaydin to the mouth is good . All around the rocks on South side of Jetty is good also . Got some nice Redfish , Jacks ,and Snook there . Also that Sheephead time . Fun to catch . Also about 200 yds as you head right from the intersection there is a bay , allalong that shoreline to where it wraps back around . Watch out for the sandbar . I would think if you are a pin guy you would clean up with a shrimp or minnow drifted along the shore or rocks . I used Red / white bucktails w/ shrimp 1/4 to 1/2 oz mostly .

Pros & Cons switching your downrigger from cable to braid
HB2 replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I ran 10# Herbies for years on mine . no problems . -
My brother Winters in Naples . Lives on a canal . We fished the bay out to the Gordon pass . Also went down on the inland canal to the Big Marco pass . Did well .We fished the inland stuff which I prefer . It's like bass fishing in salt water . Got Snook , Reddish , Sheepheads , Snappers etc. I used a 7 ft med spinning rod with braid and 20# floor leader . Bucktail jigs tipped with shrimp . Also shrimp under a float . Don't know any charters but there are a bunch down there. I did the party boat thing a few times and got grouper and some nice Mangrove snapper . But I like the inshore better. Where are you staying ?

Say what you will but 1 1/2 hrs west or east of Rochester gets you into some very good multi species of fishing . Rochester may not be the " best " port to go all season but you sure could do worse . And there are a lot of amenities around for blowoff days . We are very blessed we have this and I for one am grateful for it .

More laws that don't work or won't be enforced but on people we don't like? Ain't like that hasn't happened before . Freedom of speech is just that , say what you will unless it's threatening

I had a X4 and liked it . Was 800$ when I bought it . Sold it with the boat. The new model was 1200+ at the time . I got talked into a Depth Raider . 525$ new shipped to the house . I love it . Not a real fan of the coated cable but it's fine . Had a little interference problem . Got a noise filter for my kicker and it has worked flawless every since.

Braid size
HB2 replied to marinecrafts's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I use 80 or 65 power pro original on divers and 30# Big Game on riggers . Been doing this for years -
Don't reinvent the wheel . Use 30 # Big Game or something similar something . Heck ,I have even used the cheap Zebco from Walmart and it worked fine . Some of you guys just look for ways to waste your money .

Something I did with my probe rigger was I made a 4 ft lead of coated downrigger cable for my pinch pad release . I have a broom stick with a cup hook on it. I reach over and snatch the cable while the ball it at the surface and put the line in the release and deploy it that way so I don't have to pull the ball to the boat . Works great.

My feet get cold when it's warm and my Frogg Toggs were the best waders I have ever had and I have had like 5 pairs of Neoprene . At the price if you take decent care of them and they last 5 years you got your money's worth .

I bought some Frogg Togg Steelheaders at Fat Nancysa few years ago boot foot . Very warm and I like them . Reasonably priced 225$ I think
