Sorry Brian , I ain't buying it We need people in leadership positions that are problem solvers . This is a problem , so fix it . The state has more employees per resident than any state in the country. Figure it out . It doesn't have to be hatchery people . Be creative . Adapt , overcome .

I guess it's a matter of priorities. And how you allocate your manpower . Seems this Lamprey thing is pretty important . So a team of a few guys to do it shouldn't be a problem . It took a few days to do Sandy when I saw it a few years back . In a months time , all the streams that need it should be done . Government efficiently can no one longer be an oxymoron.

There are 4 boats in my neighborhood that fish salmon . I think I'm the only one that keeps a fish once in a while . I generally keep a smaller Steelhead or coho to eat and the kings that I know won't make it . I think most guys out there are generally C&R . I also think most stream guys are also . The state sets the limits. If a guy wants to keep his limit , I see nothing wrong with that . If you go on a charter once a year , and you like fish , why not take your limit ? If guys are going to C&R , the fish need to get back I the water ASAP. Not held out for a pic for 5 min then thrown overboard or released back into the stream . But unfortunately ,mortality is part of the game . Some of the methods used , long coppers , etc . , deep taken Lakers , are contradictory to C&R .

The answer to this problem is so blatantly obvious , it's a bit ridiculous that it's really even a problem . Train currently employed DEC techs to do this so we don't have to worry about Canada , tariffs , etc . That way the money spent stays in this state and country . We don't pay Canadians for work that employees already in the payroll should be able to do . But the way things seem to work , I suppose this might be to much to ask. But a man can dream .

With this info , all the more reason to grab the bull by the horns and make a concerted effort to have this done by NYS DEC .

I fish an ADK lake quite a bit . One day I was launching and saw 3 canoes with green ADK shirts at the launch . I asked , " are you guys having a class ? " They said no we found an invasive species . Next year I came back and all the weed beds I fished were gone along with the big pike . Found out from one of the stewards they did in fact poison the lake . Why would we hire people when we already have people on the payroll that should be able to do this ?

If the Feds are not funding this and it looks like they are kicking more and more to the states , a concerted effort to take this Lamprey abatement stuff over and do it in house should happen. We probably have most or all of the equipment to do it . The state is doing Eurasian Millfoil abatement in ADK lakes , so it's not like the state doesn't have tecks that have some experience in this . The state has people on the payroll with the knowledge , most likely and the equipment to do this , so the actual cost would be the Lampricide itself and fuel to get the trucks and testing stuff to the stream locations . This should be a significant savings from subbing this out to a Canadian firm . And the state controls the destiny of its resource.

The fact is , if the 60 k guy said , you know what , I going to a state that is less tax crazy to build my house . So what happens then ? All the money spent to build the house , lumber , engineers and architects, designers ,tradesman , maintenance after the build etc are lost to another state . And maybe most importantly the area loses a premier surgeon. There are a lot that have left this state to avoid taxes they don't have to pay in other states , that coincidentally, are thriving . Tom Gallisano for one of many . And after that money leaves , it leaves the rest of us to pay for everything else . Like essential services , fish stocking , boat launch etc etc . . And maybe Lamprey abatement . I suppose you either get that or you don't . I have been saying for years this sort of thing affects you fishing . I do not consider this a political issue.

Heard yesterday that NY state has more public employees per resident than any other state . Imagine that . That being said , so we don't have anyone in the SUNY system that is capable of safely running the Lamprey program . I know the Brocport students go out in the lake to monitor that so maybe roll that into the curriculum . Just a thought . I got those tax stats from 60 minutes a while back I think . But they kind of make sense . You did see the 60 k property tax bill ?

Good luck Longline I just had a molar taken out last Monday . I'm use to pain so it wasn't to bad . Getting better every day . Seeing how things are getting kicked back to the states , perfect time to take this lamprey stuff over and have American citizens getting paid to do it , keep money in the country . Keep our DEC people on the payroll busy . Bottom 47 % pay pretty much no In come tax , just consumption tax and many receive food stamps etc . Top 10 % pay 90 % of the taxes and the rest are paid by the middle class. We did a 3 million dollar house last year and the property taxes are 60 k per year . That's a lot of money . Is that house getting any more services than the 100k house ? Is that fair ? I'm really tired of hearing the whining about the rich . I care about what I work hard for and want to keep it . The Gov has turned into partners of big business like he mafia .How bad is it that they have to move their money offshore so they don't get a large portion of it taxed so the Gov can waste it . The money they keep is generally invested and loaned out or fund other businesses that employee people . Also what I have learned is the the wealthy , and I have worked for a lot of them , not rich , manage their money . Which is why they stay wealthy . Poor and many middle class and those that come into large sums, generally speaking , don't . They get extra money and spend it on vacations , boats , cars, etc . I witnessed this many times as a landlord . Many pro athletes that got big money are broke shortly after they leave the league . Happens a lot .

It is my understanding that all or most of the treatment has been contracted out to Canada . If this is true , why ? It isn't like we don't have educated people on DEC staff that could be trained to do this . We have trucks and tanks etc and probably most of the stuff to properly accomplish this . There are survey boats that spend many hrs collecting incomplete data sending a truck , boat and 2 employees which could all be done with an App on our phones more efficiently returning to port. Redirect those man hrs to something more important. We are 37 trillion in debt folks, growing and compounding every second of every day . We are borrowing money to pay our debts . That's a recipe for disaster.Are we going to wait till it's 50 trillion to wake up ? . The longer we wait the worse it will be . That's not politics , it's FACT some chose to ignore ,and I don't know why .

People get fired every day in the private sector and not get 8 month severance. Go find something better. These Gov employees did not get a 30 year contract and more till death . And taxpayers, who are the ones shouldering this , have to be on the hook for it forever . A lot of people have no clue where money comes from. ESPECIALLY if they have never been in business for themselves and have to provide and save for their own retirement . Mine is not guaranteed . If the economy tanks , like that hasn't happened before , a lot of us want what we worked for to be there . And I'm watching the value of my dollar be less every day . I sure would like to know exactly how much the cost is to lampricide the NY state side of LO . Not how much money was allotted, because that is different,but the actual cost . And if Canada actually is in arrears in this , where did the money come from to pay for those treatments ?

The time I saw treatment in Sandy from Holley to the lake was done by Canada . My friend talked to the tech who was doing the treatment and asked about it killing fish and he said " minimal due off" whatever that means . Sorry , Gator , get out the ax . Make the cuts , lop off the dead weight , get it over with so we can get on with it. If it's not done this way it won't get done and will only get worse .

Well imagine that . Seem like this has been going around . We pay and other nations let us . Would love to see the treatments be facilitated by a US or NY entity of some kind especially if we are bearing the brunt on cost . We need to quit outsourcing a lot of this kind of stuff .

A lot of drops have made an ocean Debt will be almost 4 % of GDP and the interest rate is projected to soar. Now I don't know what that means but it is a butt load of money . And if something happens , like a natural disaster 20 times worse than LA or, I don't know we , get sucked into a war with a super power , I would like to have the money as a nation to fund it and not have to go begging ( like we just witnessed ) to fund it . Our Gov need to do more with less and be more efficient . I saw 4 DEC people at the Lamprey booth ( which was impressive )at the Niagara show . Not one could answer my question as to which stream were getting treated this year and directed me to a website . That's a problem as I see it .

I can say I fish LO more than the vast majority of the people on this site so I can say without hesitation it means a lot to me . I have also said many times in the past that what goes on in the state and nation will affect our fishing . And now we see it could . If spending doesn't get under control , there may be no money for any of it in the future . Before it all goes away. Because it all comes down to funds and how they are allocated . Im just looking at the big picture and getting my priorities straight .

All I seem to hear are excuses and reasons and not taking responsibility for any of the 37 trillion in debt . But here we are . Going to hurt for a while gentlemen , and personally I'm good with it if we are in a better place down the road . A few more lampreys aren't the biggest thing in the world in the grand scheme of things
