    LOC entry

I ask him about this and he said no way would he encourage someone to fish on the lake alone Hence , the one man small boat Derby which hopefully will happen this Sept He also said it would cost him money by giving a group rate . He might be stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime on that c
  2. I sure wish they would offer a entry pass so the boat owner could purchase and anyone on the boat that has a N.Y. fishing licence is covered . I had 2 guys that last minute wanted to go but could not because of entry and I did not want to have them go on line and have to pay as they would be my guest and I want to be a good host . Especially the summer Derby . They would lose money on some but make up for it,on others . I mean , they are supposed to be promoting the fishery , and the best way is to get people out there . There has to be a way to do this .
  3. Above tells you why Cannon riggers are not a high quality product . No way should the swivel base should ever break . It should be engineered to be stronger than it needs to be . When they offer an upgrade kit says something . Tells me they are cutting corners .
  4. Thank God you had your rigger tied off . Now that would have been a real bad day .
  5. Last day of a beautiful 4 of July weekend First light west again . Set up in 120 and worked to 160. So Wire dipsey fires , screams , by the time I get to it , rod goes limp and I knew I lost my dipsey , new flasher that was working snubber etc . A little later braid dipsy goes , I'm fighting the fish lose it and my mag glow NK that I love is cut off . 100 rigger fires with 11" white Hot Spot/ Gary D rig , Binwadin color , 20# king . He didn't fight much till he got in the boat and went crazy and broke my pliers . Two more hits on flasher Gary D rig and got bit off on one , the other I tied a bad knot . Two bait heads gone . Since the beginning of the year I am going back have not lost anything or even had a tangle . So I guess I was,due . We wound up with 6 steelhead and salmon boated out of like 15 hits .
  6. Back at it first light to flat lake that didn't stay that way Slow start but wound up landing about 8 and dropping a few more . Got 3 nice kings . 2 on dipsey and one rigger . A few steelhead and small salmon Most bites on Flasher/ my rig . Biggest hit a black silver NK mag. 160 to 220 ft down
  7. This time of year I will always have at least 1 flasher out . I don't use dodgers anymore . Fly or meat style rig behind them . Can be lights out on dipsey I run a flasher on my probe rigger at 50 deg . 25 ft back Then on other rigger a spoon 10 ft below and one stacked 10 ft above ( 20 apart ) on same rigger . 25 to 30 back . If could only have one color it would be crush glow white. And T 41 or Mirage Atomic fly when Sun comes up .
  8. First light, perfect lake . Started out west in 150 and worked to 220 . 180 seemed the best 80 to 101 down Ran 4 rod set this morning , 2 flashers on 2 riggers and 1 flasher , 1 spoon on the dipsey . The Gary D rig was rocking this morning so I switched to all flashers pretty quick . White 11" Hotspots and a 8" white pro troll were best .slowed down around 9 so I put a few spoons down and took 2 shots on a watermelon Mag . . Had 2 doubles and one quad which was interesting . One at a time please . Had about 20 on and landed 12 . 2 steelhead , one Laker , the rest Salmon Boated 5 matures and lost maybe 3 more .
  9. We fished Blind Sodus for bass last weekend where the lake met the bay and I saw the same thing . They are Carp . My buddy caught a 20# on a Senco worm. They were everywhere .
  10. After no reports or bad reports did the double team thing with Coyote K and did the offshore thing . Set up in 150 and headed north . Temp was deep . Came up about 20 ft to 80 ft or so at like 320 and rods started going . Seemed like the fish were on the underwater break . Anyway we wound up with 5 fish and dropped a few more . Got a few on dipsy at 280 on a green dot spin a my rig . Also a watermelon mag was the choice. 320 to 380 best 101 ft down . Early bite , when fog was on , it was good . When it cleared and Sun came up , they shut down for us . Congrats and good luck to Ken on his 26# 14 king on top of the LOC leaderboard . Also the temp is screwy . It was 65 surface and 60 down 90 ft . Like the Thermocline hasn't set up yet .

    FAIR HAVEN

Spent the weekend with my friends at Sterling campground Fished Blind Sodus bay mostly . Got some real nice Smallmouth and a few good Largemouths with a few of each to 20" First light bite was best with jigs and a small Crankbait doing the best . But it was a tough bite . Absolutely crazy what the high water did to that place . Busted the bay wide open . Apparently the army Corp is going to repair it . I hope they do .
  12. Actually , I'm drinking moonshine right now .
  13. Look into investing in a surface speed ad on for your depth finder . It will help a lot . I used this for years . 30 to 60$ It's not a fish hawk but its the next best thing .
  14. Amazing what happens when they pull the plug I thought this, wasn't possible ? Or at least we were told that .
  15. If I hag to pick one flasher it would be white. I like dbl crush glow white, White with black or green dots . White rocks
  16. That's a Radtke pike minnow ! I have one of them in Perch . Got some nice pike on it . I bought it at a show many years back . I remember the guy with the tank and his sales pitch .
  17. July /Aug is the time we all wait for all year I target kings that time of year . If I don't catch kings , my plan B is to look for kings . Who is targeting Lakers I at that time of year ? 1 good king is worth 10 Lakers I have fished all those ports a lot and the 4 years I was at Johnson's creek were the best . Once in 4 years did I go offshore to find kings other than lake flips . Lived in 80 to 200 ft .
  18. Also Hamlin beach state park has camping . 10 min to Sandy 5 min to Bald Eagle 15 min to Oak Hard to make a bad choice early July to mid Aug .
  19. Brockport is closest lodging 15 miles south . No on the water gas or restaurants , or tackle shops . East fork pro is Marina , no gas top shelf mechanic . Hamlin has restaurants and gas . Everywhere on the south shore has, been tough the last few weeks Never had a problem catching Lakers at the Oak.
  20. Given my druthers , I think the OAK is the best port on the south store from now till mid Aug . And I have a cottage at Sandy . It's good , don't get me wrong but it can be hit and miss for kings. It's not a great place if there is a sustained east wind . The Oak west is great king water as you get the current from the Niagara there if winds are right. I feel it dissipates around Bald Eagle . I have yearly docked at Johnson's creek ( my favorite ) , Oak , Bald Eagle , Sandy.
  21. Magnum Metalz will be my next riggers if I buy new . Saw them at the show and the guy who makes them . Well built ,compact, all business riggers with a minimum of plastic . And will handle a 20# ball .. And the price ain't bad .
  22. I run 2 downriggers My setup for water 50 ft plus is One flasher back 25 on one rigger Two spoons stacked on the other rigger , one 10 ft above , one 10 ft below the flasher set back the same or slightly farther . 1 or 2 dipsys with flashers or spoons . Fish the flasher at the bottom level of the bait or in 48 to 50 deg water . Sometimes I run all flashers . There are, days I start that way and put 1 flasher on each downrigger . And 1 on each dipsey . Then change to spoons if no hits . If targeting kings all flashers can be good , especially mid summer on . But this time of year the spoons catch all species . I like to run one flasher all the time somewhere . There are, days they spook the fish so I keep one on a dipsey .
