  1. I thought about this , and owning both a bigger and smaller boat I can speak on this . If the lake is calm , it's more even , if not the bigger boat has a distinct advantage . Especially if the boat has auto pilot. Then , it's not even close . My thought is to have something for the small boat guys to keep the playing field level . I see some Derby/ tournaments where small boat weekend guys compete against 30 ft+, charter guys . Trying to avoid that .
  2. Respectfully, There are plenty of derbys / tourneys you can get in with 2 or more guys . This is for those of us that like to fish alone, have smaller boats , etc . And as a guy who goes out a lot , I see a lot of guys like me . Spread the word . Maybe we could have an impromptu thing sometime after labor day when the stagers are in . To see how it goes .
  3. I have been thinking about this for some time now . I fish alone a lot and I see a lot of guys do also and it grinds my gears to no end that I can't fish alone in the LOC Derbys . I asked the head of it and he said no way would he ever go for that. How many of you guys would be interested in a small boat ,say 19 Ft max one man one day Derby ? Could be fun .
  4. Back out this morning to red skies and east wind 2 Lakers both on flasher and my rig Was at my limit for being rough so called it early .
  5. Back out this afternoon because Coyote K told me I better get back out . And tommorow looks iffy . Got his this and another Salmon ,a small Atlantic and 2 good Lakers . Spoons 35 to 65 down . And 140 on the slide diver .
  6. 6 Lakers and lost a few more . 1 hog . 45 to 60 ft 25 to 45 down . Black Orange spoon was best Also black green glow .
  7. There are forecasts that have predicted calm seas and there were 4 ftrs And there have been forecasts for 4 ftrs and the lake has been flatter than piss on platter If you aren't driving far , you will see when you get there .
  8. X2 on Transit tire . Been going there for almost 40 years I think If you need tires ,go see Curtis . My first wood boat blew tires . My neighbor , a service station owner put some 12" knobby car snow tires on It . Never did it again and trailered better .
  9. You can buy a 3 or 6 gal tank anywhere they sell marine products . Heck , Wal-Mart has them . Then you need the connections to fit your fuel line for both tank and motor . And while you are at it , if you haven't done it in a while , change the fuel line and primer bulb .
  10. DO NOT MESS AROUND BUT A NEW ONE , BEFORE YOU GO OUT . That being said , is it a bad connection or the fitting is not right or is it the gasket between fitting and tank . A new 6 gallon is 60$ ?
  11. Fuel line air or gasket leaks Tank vent . Just because you cleans the carbs , doesn't mean that residual particles in the fuel lines haven't gotten in the jets again. This happened to me no less than 5 times . Had my carb off that many times .
  12. How do you know it was the ignition ?
  13. Had problems with my switches and fuses on my 86 There was corrosion where my fuses clipped in . If I wiggled the fuse it would work . I cleaned and put a little Ox guard on I also had to replace a few switches .
  14. I ran the shoreline also . You didn't miss anything in there 0 for 1 for me . Left early
  15. X2 on the riggers for Small boat tactics I took a drive to look at a job on the lake west of Shadagee . Chocolate milk out to 20 ft of water . It will probably be like that for a while Perfect time for big bright stick or body baits with a lot of wobble and rattles . The fish can't hit what they can't see .
  16. You need to know the dive rate of what you use so they don't snag up Also divers need to be well tuned to run correctly. We caught a lot of fish back in the day fishing like this . Great small boat set up . I would run two stickbaits off my downriggers 1 each 75 to 125 back , and 2 divers Longlined back 175 to 225 or off boards . This was before lead core , slide divers etc.
  17. Use bigger brighter stickbaits in the dirty water . Once you get out to the 20 to 50 ft range , put some diving plus like a spoonbill rebel or similar on boards . I do this once in a while with good results . I see some nice baits at the store I think would shine . Some of the Shady Raps or Tail dancers would get down 20 to 30 ft.
  18. So to clarify , when you fish in the colored water in 6 to 10 ft you are catching fish . Then for some reason you decided to move deeper out of the colored water and you don't catch fish . Shouldn't that tell you something ? The fish are in the colored water . The first rule of this type of fishing is you don't leave fish to find fish .
  19. Rebels are an underated lure . Spring boards in shallow ,they are the best Off riggers they also produce well I have some 5 1/2 " black silver that I like for spring kings off riggers . They don't make all the colors they use to . And they are cheap , or use to be .
  20. It ain't like you guys that can't come are missing anything .
  21. Use light steel wool to buff them up LIghtly if they need it . Then spray with lacquer . They come out great . Good for spoons also . On the Original straight F series a short shank round hook . On Jointed , I use an Eagle claw L 374 same size as what came off . Watch out for the split rings as some can be junk and not hold up . Be carefully to not get to big as it will ruin the balance of the bait .
  22. If I added up all the money I have spent on fishing in my lifetime , I could own a nice house and a sports car . And have money left over . I figure every time I go out , everything included , equipment , rods reels lures electronics, boat, registration, insurance, boat maintenance, gas for truck And boat ,etc , costs me 60 to 300 per trip . And I'm probably underestimating. So don't kid yourself. So that salmon fillet is cheap in comparison. I,don't think this is entirely about control as it is politicians covering their ass . They had to do something , the number of dead prove that . For those that think it is just about control , I hear there is a,sale on tin foil hats on Amazon.
  23. Since the launches are now open , I will post Fished about 1.5 hrs this morning . 7 to 10 ft found nice patch of water . Stained and warm . Jointed rebels 70 ft back 2 to 3 ft down on rigger 4 / 7 all smaller Brown's with one about 14# This Rebel has been a go to this time of year since like 1985 or so To breezy for me , had to come in
