  1. Being board and seeing the need , I'm going to share my Small boat tactics program I post about . Fishing these LO fish since the beginning owning a few boats , I have learned a thing or two . I have had my success and my failures . I currently am fortunate enough to own 2 boats , a 21 ft hardtop and a 16 ft side console . I consider a small boat 17 ft or less . Big boats have a lot of advantages over small . A stable safe platform to run multiple rods efficiently and cover a,lot of water to name a few. But weather permitting , during peak times small boats have a few distinct advantages over big boats . First and foremost is maneuverability .Being able to turn and go back over schools of bait and fish fast .While big boats run long lines with coppers and dipsys , it's like turning around the Titanic to go back over spots . Turn to fast and this stuff sinks to the bottom . I have 2 manual riggers on my small boat and I use these, almost exclusively when I troll water deeper than 15 ft . Last early may to mid June I targeted kings from 60 to 120 ft , fishing down 40 to 9o ft . And did well almost every time out . I ran mostly flasher setups or Sometimes 1 spoon , 1 flasher . Just two rods no cheaters . My game plan was to see fish on my finder and adjust the depth to the fish and stay on top of them . I use leads of 25 to 35 ft mostly running both back the same . And keep them vertically at least 10 ft apart and as much as 40 . By doing this I can make a 150 ft complete circle without tangles . My flashers are doing a lot of crazy stuff down there I think ,which triggers strikes. I always troll in s curves . I have no down or up speed . Sometimes I use my handheld GPS for SOG . When it's slow , against my better judgement , I will put a Dispsey out . This, changes my whole dynamic of my trolling path which become straighter because of the long line,. And the effectiveness of my riggers goes down . The second advantage is small boats do not create the footprint bigger boats do .Fish sometimes feel the bigger boat, above them and it spooks them to the side , which is why coppers and dipsys shine for them IMO. Not so much spooking for smaller boats . Which us why I like my riggers . For fall stagers , which I love , I run 2 J plugs only almost exclusively . Starting in 10 to 12 ft back 75 , with the ball just under the surface . I work my way out and shorten leads to no less, than 40 ft . I set one 8 ft off bottom and one half way down . This fall was great for me doing this, a,lot of matures . IMO , downriggers are the heart of a small boat trolling program in water more than 15 ft ,for reasons I explained , use and are proven for me . You want a lure at 50 ft , put it there , no guess, work . , Small boats aren't big boats so don't try to be one. Less is more in a lot of situations . Use those advantages . Yup , I have slow days , but not many . This I what works for me . Just watch the weather and safety first.
  2. See what I mean ? And don't forget a sharp knife to cut all the tangled lines .
  3. Top is a # 3 Jplug Bottom 2 are Canadian plugs If you have the middle one , you have GOLD !
  4. Ask Bernie about that when he was running against Hillary . Those Super delegates have amazing powers .
  5. If you are using riggers I would say no but most reels now come with them . Dipsys absolutely . Used rod combos on here also . There are guys on here that will tell you you have to have this and that to catch fish . I'm here to tell you you need basic stuff presented properly . Took me a long time and lots of money before I figured that out . Get the riggers
  6. I have a boat almost the same as yours Spend the money a buy the riggers . You won't be sorry . My setup and I love it . Removable board when I don't fish salmon trout . You can get used manual riggers relatively cheap on here . Lead core and wire are, both expensive and when you factor those in the price and value will be well worth it . And you will catch more on the riggers IMO .
  7. The top 4 are j plugs Probably a #5 #4 #3 #2 The bottom one with the fixed hook is a Canadian plug I do believe . I have a bunch I bought at a sport show back in the early 80s I have a pearl black dot same size as #3 j plugs I have caught 50 + fall kings on .it's almost automatic dawn for first hr . I . Have a few of the smaller ones I caught a few spring Brown's on .
  8. Google N.Y. travel ban and see the reporting . But I recall seeing Cuomo say there is a travel ban . Maybe it just a strong suggestion and scare tactic . But I suppose it's up to the individual how they want to handle it . I go fishing locally where I want . But a buddy wanted me to come down trout fishing and thought I probably should not travel that far. I also think that some of this is overblown , but I don't want to be the one to be wrong and spread this . I wanted to go to the Salmon river for drop backs, but won't for that reason . It's kind of a question of character .
  9. Cuomo declared it March 20 Google it . Maybe I'm reading it wrong .
  10. You must currently be staying up here as it is my understanding there is a travel ban for all non essential travel in New York state .
  11. And I also think those that run charters will not be doing it very long as those that are following the rules will not take those who don't very well .
  12. Just heard the President say that loans/ grant will be eligible for small business . So I would think charters would be covered under that . It is my understanding that essential businesses were spelled out pretty clearly. And 10k fines for those not in compliance .
  13. Wal-Mart's best marine battery . They are duel use . 100$ Been using them for years and they are awesome for the price . I have 2 chargers . I digital up to 15 amps . 1 which is a 2 amp digital charger maintainer cost 20$ . I use the 2 amp most of the time . They both charge the battery safely and have an automatic plate cleaning cycle . Also been told they equalize the cells . I have batteries that are 10 years old . Because I think of those chargers .
  14. Many Stick baits come with split rings on the front . Rapala sticks did not . So every stick I have now has a split ring . It is a,pivot point and does not affect the action . So I tie direct . The balance of the lure is critical , especially smaller lures It is important that you tune your sticks . Some say they are tuned right out of the box . Don't trust that . And after a few fish . You may have to retune . I have had some you can't tune . I use do do this in my mother's swimming pool or on a dock with no current or wind . It takes time but it's well spent .
  15. If you are serious about fishing and go a lot , I would take the time to set the boat up to the max . Would-be the electric start as big as the, boat will take,. 2 battery setup , one dedicated to the trolling motor . Maybe extention cables to put one battery mid ship under a seat or something . A cheap depth finder , maybe running lights , an ice chest . A spot for everything like anchor ,ropes , PFDs ,toolbox ,etc . A few rod holders and if you plan on trolling , a removable board with manual riggers mounted across the gunnels. Sit in it and think it out and take some time . I enjoy setting my boats up .
  16. It seems to have stabilized . Maybe because they pulled the plug , or at least partly . We also have not had a lot of rain , YET .
  17. There are many small business folks like myself . And if we don't work , we don't eat or pay our bills . I don't want a handout or no interest loan or even a grant for that matter . I have the gov telling me I can't work ,( I'm classified essential ) , or evict my non paying tennents cabs a landlord ,which I probably wouldn't do anyway . I hope dont get sick or worse get a family member or someone else sick . You do what you feel is right and I will do the same . Just out of curiosity , where does your income stream come from ?
  18. Tell that to mothers against drunk drivers , the kids at Sandy hook . There are risks in life . Maybe I die or worse a family member . But at some point , you have to take the risk and let the chips fall where they may .
  19. With that logic we should outlaw booze , guns , motorcycles , etc, etc, etc.
  20. Not a very realistic statement
  21. From the sounds of it the president and the money guys are getting worried about the economic forecast if this thing goes on . And the clowns in congress seemingly can't organize a 2 car funeral. Some using the situation to ram thru their agendas. A new low , if that's possible, in congress yesterday . And it seems , and I agree, that the cost of losing the economy and it tanking , is out weighing the potential death count . I don't see this shut down in it current state , lasting long from what I saw yesterday .
  22. Make sure you use new flares and fittings . If you reuse flares or compression fittings they set and form .And may not seal good a second time . I also don't like those fittings that clamp on to the 3/4 And pierce the pipe . A sweat fitting or maybe shark tooth for that if it's copper .
  23. It 20 deg this morning I fished off my seawall yesterday afternoon and the wind was, coming off the lake . Sun was shinning but it was cold . I did 3 smallmouth . And raked some leaves . You are a better man than me to be out there . Have fun . I'm going to work .
