It’s that time of the year and all the cute little critters start looking for a warm place to hide. Then they chew on wiring harness, hoses, upholstery, etc.  My house and garage are sealed tight, and no foods are left out, but my new boat shelter is now a target. New population of squirrels and a few skunks are looking it over.  Have any of you guys ever tried using smelly petroleum products like Mineral Spirits or Turpentine on rags to deter the little rodents? Moth balls melt away,Pepper and Mint oils also fade quickly.  Any ideas?

Thanks, Speedy

Re Rodent Proofing - Otters -

Every year in Canada we put in the boathouse in both the boats and on the dock, containers with Pine Sol and or Mr. Clean. The strong soap smell appears to work (mostly!) in deterring these creatures over the winter.  Failure to do this means that you will be gritting your teeth and using your pressure washer come  spring.

I heard strong smelling dryer sheets placed throughout the boat. Has anybody tried this? Smells better than granny's mothballs.
