I am looking for some engine advice. I own a 1999 Bayliner 21 foot and I fish Seneca Lake exclusively. I am told that my block is damaged .All my stater screws broke off and after trying to drill and tap I guess without a good result. I would like to upgrade the motor with a newer 125 hp or 150 hp Mercury. I did find 1 at Alpha Marine Outboards and I can not get in contact with anyone for 2 days so that is a bit concerning. The boat is at a reputable marina on Seneca waiting for my direction. Any advice is appreciated .Thanks Duane

There are several dealers in Central NY that do repowers. If you check around most of them have used motors that they recondition and resell

There are a ton of online dealers who sell new engines online. to hang another outboard on a transom does not require a doctorate. What it does require is a cherry picker or a sturdy tree with a hoist. A one ton capacity cherry picker is less than $200 at Harbor freight.

Often a new engine turns out to be cheaper than all the local repairs. This is mostly because the online dealers compete in the Florida market where there is stiff competition.

Still off-season in our part of the world so perhaps the best time of year to seek out a good used outboard or get in contact with some dealers to get on their list as trade-ins appear this spring.

I just used Krenzer in Sodus late in the fall to upgrade from a 90 merc to a 150. Very happy. Get in touch with Rick Hajecki, Crazy Yankee on here. Dealers are out at shows, should have some deals available.
