I got on the water around nine and set up at 35 foot after having seen good marks at the bump. I circled it a few times and ended up with 3 cookie cutter browns on an 8 color leadcore. On the way farther out at 50 feet I got a skippie  and  then I picked up and went to 350. There I got 2 nice steelies at 40 foot down going back  and circling, an other skippie and then a decent king, although he popped off just before netting him which is just as well as I was not planning on keeping him . All in all a nice day . Thanks to Whaler I went out there and  Coyote was out there too. What I could not figure out is that the parking lot must have had a dozen trailers, but there were no more than three or four boats that I could see. Did everybody go even farther than 350 feet?

Hi Everyone,

I am traveling from Vermont and will be in Sandy last week of August.  Would I expect to fish in 350 or will the fish be in closer staging to go up river.  I will certainly keep an eye here to check for reports.  Any help with hardware will be appreciated.

That time of year  tons of salmon are staging 80-120 feet out in front from salmon river to north pond. You will see a parade of boats out there for sure in those depths. When I owned a cottage on North pond I would go straight out of the channel and start in 80 foot then go out. Had some good days however staging kings are a pain in the ass to get to bite,,you will mark 100,000 fish and maybe get a couple,,sometimes more,,, some days. Usually I would start in close for stagers and if they are not biting then move deeper. Offshore 300-400 can be productive for 2 year olds if they are there.
