kicker mounting

A good friend gave me a 9.9 Merc four stroke to mount up on our boat. We have a 1990 Trophy hardtop 4.3 io Alpha One outdrive. Where to mount this beast and best method to steer with are points that we would like to get input from all of you. Any other install tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

Bruce

Bruce- You will need to install some sort of kicker motor bracket. Don't skimp on this. Cabelas and Bass Pro carry them.

For steering you connect the kicker to the main motor with an "ez steer" bracket. Then you steer from the boats main steering wheel.

You will LOVE the $$$$ that the 4 stroke kicker will save you on gas. It's also nice having the security of a backup motor.

Hi,

My two cents. Definitely want to go with the ez steer bracket. Pricey but worth it. Just remember that the bar doesn't float too well. :^)

When you install the kicker motor, If possible I would suggest you install it so its a little deeper in the water than normal. That way you won't have the motor coming out of the water on rough days. You want a good bite in all conditions.

Let me know if you have any questions.

After losing the EZ Steer bar when it separated and trying to put it back together over the stern in rough water, I attached a "bungie cord" around the steering bar and it works even better now.
