what to look for when buying used boats

I thank everyone for there input on the type and length of boat that would be good for me. The one thing I didn't think to ask is what to look for when purchasing, what I mean is how can I tell if the boat leaks, the engine has cracks in the block or heads, or is there something specific for certain engines.[ Kind of like certain chevy engines are knon for blowing head gaskets] any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

To be quite frank, if you don't know what to look for yourself, and have no friends to help, hire a marine surveyor. A few hundred dollars spend now could save you a money pit!
