There was an unreal amount of dead steelies when I was fishing dsr this fall. Some real hogs too. I figured  guys fighting them too long in the warmer water was killing them

There is a big discussion on salmon crazy about it... early guesses are thiamine deficiency from feeding on alewifes

This has been an ongoing issue all season, we have been seeing the floaters/swirlers since October. There is a few diff opinions on the cause, we are waiting to see the outcome of the latest testing with the live fish. Originally we thought it was just a SR issue, but have since found it to be lake wide, so hopefully we can get it pinned down. If any of you see and instances of overly large numbers of dead steelies on the tribs please send me a PM. There is a number of us that are trying to keep tabs on where the issues are the worst. So far I have heard of instances all over the lake, including the north shore, but thankfully it has only been the steelies that have been affected by this. Good Luck, and if you are a trib fisherman, please take extra caution and time releasing any steelies you catch!!!

Hearing the words floaters and swirlers being spotted in different areas of the lake kinda of scary, 1990's had the whirling disease scare..Lets hope its something alot less damaging..
