copper question

Recommended Posts

How can I make 200' of 45# copper on a Penn 330 perform like 300' copper? I'm thinking of adding a snap weight to backing at knot to the copper. Would like to get an additional 22' down, somewhere around 66' down. I know it's speed dependent and lure type will affect depth. How much weight will give me my desired depth? Advice?

Put a dipsey without the "O" ring on the end of the 45lb copper wire..on a 2 setting 200ft will have you down to approx. 70 ft...I have a 150ft and 300ft 45lb copper I often run a dipsey without ring and it digs in deep, more than stainless will cause of the weight of the copper..plus it keeps rigs up close to the boat, and out to the side so as not to worry about the chance of tangles as much...snap weight is ok but it's something you have to deal with midway thru the retrieve.
