I wouldn't expect a payback for the derby if I was a charter (unless it was the grand prize). On my boat we have all ams... we have so much invested and a pretty set derby team, so everyone knows that at least half the money goes towards the boat to help cover expenses (we are in about 3 grand per year before the boat leaves the dock the first time!!)

We divide tournament money up evenly. Good buddies when you win have always given back to the boat!

When I chartered my arrangement was, after taxes - 10% to boat, rest was split. I had a small boat so it was never more then 4 way split. Prize over $1000. Fun fishing boat counted as a person so if I took two buddies, 50% of winnings was coming my way. All prizes.
