    "Mercury Outboard" covers alot of territory. What year, hp, 2 or 4 stroke & the worse thing you can do especially if it's a 2 stroke engine is to use starter fluid.

    Disconnect the cables at the box first to eliminate a frozen cable or another problem aft.

    Google some more there Mort. He already owns that, he's looking for a type of replacement cord that will work better than the original.

    Stiff length of wire with a hook to guide it in place, small light & a 3rd hand will do it. Make sure the grommet has some lube on it, hold the tube on the guide thats built into the top side of the housing & slide it up & on. Oh & make sure the lower shift shaft & upper shift splines are lined up in forward gear so you don't have to pull it apart 51 times.

    If any of you have I/O's that have been run this spring with all the good weather we had & there on a trailer. Make sure they're drained or other provisions to keep some heat in the engine compartment tonight. Predicted lows in the mid ta low twenties tonight could & would ruin yer day the next time you go to fire em up.
