One could also argue that Lake Chubs & some perch type minows have spots in that vicinity at some stage in their lives. What baitfish has a silver or red treble hook for a tail? FOR MEN ONLY :!: Get practical...keep the change. Buy her something (often) for under, but close to a buck. Make sure the sales tax takes it over a buck. Pay for it with two singles, then stash the change. Surprise her with a candy bar or bag of M&Ms now & again. She gets a treat & you get a treat...Don't laugh, it works. Jim - I'm thinking the charging problem is mostly in the battery technology now days. (It's reading high again at high speed) For years I ran a car battery. I started this year with a deep cycle, then went to a starting/deep cycle. Fried the second one. I just went to a straight marine starting battery. Maybe older engines don't like the new batteries. I may endup back at the auto store. (of course new stator, diode, cables probably helped) Interesting about the thermocline. Maybe the lake is moving towards an upwelling? Tom B. (LongLine)

Launched at Genny early, headed towards Russell. Thick clouds, hazy, muggy, trying to rain. Very slight SSW wind. Actually should have been perfect for fishing. Only a couple other boats out there. Only managed "one half" of a king shaker at 52 over 100 FOW. i.e. if he was twice that size, he'd have been a real shaker. (Grn Thunder) Very thin thermocline, I’d guess maybe 3 ft thick. At 2 ¼ mph w/ 75 ft of cable out, temp was mid 40’s. Same at 2 ½ mph was high 50’s & occasional 60 F. 74F on surface. Ankle biters came out around 10:00AM. Lot of fleas, but manageable. Lots of bait: Although no marks around the bait. Quite a few swirls on the surface. Worked out to 200 FOW, saw nothing but fleas, so came back in. Off around noon. Hey Reeljerks – This you? Sponge - I've got a new rectifier diode, new stator, new battery cables and have gone back to a marine starting battery (also brand new) rather than the dual purpose marine battery. Also, cleaned and/or replaced a bunch of connections. Only thing left that I can figure is the flywheel. Charging again.... Anybody know what the ohm reading should be on a 75 hp evinrude (1984) between the diode/rectifier red and yellow leads? How about the red to yellow/gray??? Manual says yellow to engine ground should be infinite one way and have resistance the other. Same with yellow/gray to engine ground. It then says check yellow to red and yellow/gray to red but doesn't hint what the reading should be. Is it the same, or should they both be infinite, both ways??? (now I'm undercharging.) Tom B. I hit 4 weather sites before heading out. 3 of the 4 said storms this afternoon. 4th said storms to our north. I kept an eye on the sky as I was launching & going out. I monitor flammable solvent tank levels at work and can tell you that yes all flammable liquids expand/contract quite a bit with temperature. However roadside gas stations have their tanks wel below ground level and the temperature doesn't fluctuate wrt air temperature down there. Not nearly as much as it does with above ground tanks. You've probably see expansion effects if you have a mercury outboard with a vented tank and fill it too full. On a hot day when you open the vent, gas will squirt out the vent. Moral: leave a little air space in your tank so only vapor escapes on those hot days. Tom B. (LongLine)

iceman - Sure sounds like you're not firing on both cylinders. If you're throttle advances then the cable is not stuck. These are what plug wires look like on my Envinrude. (I have three plugs) Take your cowling/cover off. (there should be a lever) & look for the same things on your engine. They have a heavy boot on each end. Make sure the wires are securely attached on both ends. i.e. push on them. If your wires are attached okay then you're going to have to take it in to a mechanic as it could be the wire itself, the plug, points or the "power gizmo" that feeds the plug if you have one. A mechanic such as RAS could tell you in a couple minutes what's going on. If you don't want to go all the way to Spencerport then try Pugsley's on 104. Tom B. (LongLine)

If you're only running on all cylinders it won't matter what you do to the cable, how much you advance the spark nor how much gas you put into the engine, it'll only go so fast. On my shakedown cruise a couple years back, I had just replaced plugs on my 3 cylinder envinrude & didn't have one wire on securely. Engine idled out the pierheads great & then didn't go anywhere when I gave it the gas. Tom B. (LongLine)
