  1. yeah but that doesn't start as many fights as thanking someone for being an a$$h0[e. Actually, you should take it as a compliment. There are a lot of people out there who are just out for themselves. I always turn my lights off...it helps remind me to plug/unplug my trailer lights. Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. JayC – Sorry to hear about your experience. Glad you made it in okay & hope repairs not too costly. There are a lot of good guys out there willing to help. Unfortunately there are also some of the other type out there. Late season, years ago, before a lot of you guys were born, I had an I/O that completely died out off Durand, with nobody around. I flashed an SOS with a flashlight at the beach. Someone saw it & in a couple hours, the Coast Guard had me back at the launch. Guess what I’m offering as food for thought is to use all forms of distress call, not just depend on radio. CT - Flags are nice but won’t be seen unless he’s directly watching you. Flare guns can be seen by everyone, even people on shore. (That charter probably would have had the Sheriff out there pretty quick if you had tossed a flare across his stern to get his attention) This should serve as a lesson to all of us. I.E. To think about what to do if we're found with no propulsion out there, before it happens. Have an emergency plan. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. Great thought as long a a loaf of bread doesn't go to $459.00 a loaf. Unfortunately, it is time for new batteries in the calculator. What are the odds the CEO of AIG gets at least $100 Mil out of it? Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Ray - I go to the keys a lot. Guess you can say I'm "hooked". In the kitchen. One hook for the car, one hook for the boat, one hook for the house.....(all singles - no trebles) Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. Ed - Got any pics? (playing...) Great report. Love the pics. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. TIP of the DAY:  Catch a Big Fish & worried about weight loss before you get it weighed in? Simple. Attach the Rig'r cable to its mouth then run back to the weigh in station with your Black Box set to +1.2v. (Definitely put a "clamp on their thingy" first cuz the last time I got a shock, I nearly wet my pants. ) sorry LG & Gill-T - couldn't help it Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. Ray - Here's how the invassive food chain works. The creature on top eats/ate the creature below it. You can see what happens to the guy on top. Tom B. (LongLine) p.s wish more birds would eat gobies.
  8. In reality a fish immediately gains weight in direct proportion to the time after it's initial contact with a fisherman. Something to do with adrenalin. For all you skeptics out there that don't believe it, 2 weeks ago I had a 19 Lb'r rip off 400 Yds of line & probably kept going all the way to Canada. Just wait till January when I tell you that it was a 30 Lb'r and Skeine'r caught it in November with my lure still in its jaw. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. Do not stop. Use the boats motion/path to help keep the line tight. On my ride, the cables & lines come in with any decent size fish. (Being primarily a soloist, it's easy cuz there's at most two.) Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. So my third guess was right, huh? A single hole'r :!: Sorry, couldn't help it. But seriously I don't ice fish & really didn't know what it was. Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. What is it? A tent? A covered lounge chair? A porta-potti? Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. Anyone with a Blue Finn Royale is alright in my book. Great ride. Welcome. Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. Edd Thanx for taking the time to find that out. I've been wondering for a long time. I figured they did something like some flyguys do (wax) or something. Makes sense for trollers to have a small spool in the tacklebox rather than the bulk spools. My tackle box weighs 42 Lbs already  Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. I'd vote Atlantic: http://www.wiscfish.org/fishid/frames.aspx I can't make out any color on the adipose Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. Hey Skein'r, you coulda left a couple on the shelf for us :!: Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. Only 30 yrs old? Those Rivieras have at least 5 more good years left in them. My engine probably won't support electrics so when I retired my Riverias, I went to cannon uni's. Make sure to get swivel bases. They save a lot of hassel with releases. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. Ray - I don't see the problem here. GO! Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. Rick - Did you make it out? What's the verdict? Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. IMO, no doubt the cleaner water due to the mussels has contributed to this. The lake is fairly shallow out quite a ways on the S. shore. Direct sunlight can penetrate the water and warm the darker bottom further out than ever before. (at least in our lifetimes) If you look at the NOAA lake transects, you'll see there is very little under 40F water in Big-O right now. Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. Sandy launch ramp to be closed for two days for repaving starting 9/9 http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/46635.html Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Random thoughts - If they're talking quality refering to fewer fish but greater size then that's possible. However if they talking quality means catching fish everytime you go fishing, they're full of it. Maybe they haven't heard that theory about overfishing. Or perhaps they know more about big water, open water trolling & the current fish population in Big-O than I give them credit for. They could be correct for certain medium size Bass lakes. Tom B. (LongLine) Catch & "grease"?
  22. I would if I could but it won't let me. Site automatically switches to Paypal because Wife has her Paypal acct f'd up. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Don't have the foggiest notion, but am willing to bet that there is a little electronic plug-in gizmo/module (we used to call them relays) that is blown. Try asking on www.thehulltruth.com site, if no one can figure it out here. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. I think it was Reeljerks that posted this site a while back. (if not sorry to whoever did). Pretty good site. Click on the word "more" to get wind direction, gusts etc. http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/wfo/se ... neWeek.php Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. Exactly what my probe looks like. Sometimes in & sometimes out of the transducer cone. Bring your rigger up (or down) while watching the screen to confirm. Tom B. (LOngLine)
