Welcome to the site. Check out the reports sections. Just about everyone tells what their using & where-abouts it's being used. Hard to go wrong with clean spoons &/or flasher flies. Whites, greens, glows. Beginning shortly just about everyone will have at least one J-Plug type down. Tom B. (LongLine)

Off the wall thought, make sure your key switch is fully returning to the run position when you let go of it when starting.

Fishing Report Your Name LongLine Launched eaarrrrrly this morning. (5:15am) Would have been out even earlier but had to chase down a light problem. South wind, maybe a 6†chop. Headed straight out & slightly to the left. Could smell the fish at 65 so had lines set by 80FOW. Worked out to 130FOW but then came back in & played around the 95-110 range to Russell & back, zigging & azagging. 54F down 80 & real thin band so I kept the deep one in it. ¼ mph pulled you up into the 60s F. 74F on surface for most of the trip. (Same as in the river) 9 for 9, all on the rigg’rs. Only used 3 lures: NK 28 Wonderbread clown down deep, DW Blue dolphin high, and very proudly my own “$19 fly†in the middle. (Named “$19 fly†cuz that’s how much I spent in mylar, glue & tubing figuring out how to make flies before I got one that didn’t end up in the trash) Down speed 2- 2 1/4mph. All very solidly hooked. Anyways, almost a grand slam. Interesting is that he had both pec fins clipped. Got this laker just past Russell. What’s interesting is that he had just nailed a goby. Take a close look at the goby “tiny fish eaten by little fish eaten by bigger fish.†I’ve don’t think I’ve ever caught 3 fish on the same lure at the same time before. Thought at first maybe a sculpin, but he had a fused stomach fin & was roughly 6 ½†long. Had 6 little kings in between the above. Natural count now something like 18 out of 25. Finally found some bait out there. Actually a clean screen till about 9:00. Off at 10:00. About 10 trailers in the lot. Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine)

3 ROD / PERSON...............PASSED IN BOTH HOUSES
LongLine replied to lyteline's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Thanx to LyteLine & all the guys that love our sport; promote it; are willing to help others catch fish and have been trying to make the fishery economically successful for the state and all stakeholders to maintain. For the last 3 1/2 years I’ve been saving every Washington State & Michigan quarter I’ve come across – The ones with the fish on them. (2 peanut butter jars full) They’re going to get spent tomorrow. I hope JV’s & a couple others are ready. 3 rods as a soloist is not hard to do if you keep your cool & watch your spacing. But if you do end up in a mess just remember this thread from 25 Nov 2008 and who started it: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8541&hilit=%2Athree%2A Tom B. (LongLine) -
Very nice. Tom B. (LongLine)

... oops...That'll take care of discharging with the key off, however it won't explain the dying while trolling unless all your electricals are drawing more current than your engine is putting out or battery is accepting. Tom B. (LongLine)

3 ROD / PERSON...............PASSED IN BOTH HOUSES
LongLine replied to lyteline's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The governor is a salt water fisherman. He rescinded the token salwater fishing license fee, against the advice of the DEC. The DEC runs the Environmental Conservation Committee & they had no problems passing it. From the DEC 2010 Lake Ontario Annual Report found at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27068.html Keep up the good work Has Been…Don’t ever let facts cloud your opinion. 14...19...29...Do I hear a 49? Charging should happen at all RPM. If RPM is increased then charging voltage will increase. IE if at idle & charging at say 12.8v then goose it & it should jump up to something like 15 or so. R U sure other boat circuits aren't on i.e gas gauge, tilt indicator, lights? There aren't any other symptoms? Other than the obvious visuals, I'm afraid you're going to have to splurge for a volt/ohm/ampmeter & chase it down. Tom B. (LongLine)

Do you mean you turned the ignition to the on position or you had the engine running at home when you saw it was being drawn down? 1. Are you sure you're charging? 2. Many electronics, i.e. Fish finders, radios, GPS etc have memories & will draw some power even though you have them switched off. I had to put in some isolation switches. 3. Did you check every wire for fraying or cracks, etc? Did you pull fuses from holders & check for corroision? 4. Call Hank Tom B. (LongLine)

Problem is that it's real shallow out past casting distance & gaining access thru the houses may be a real challenge. I'd suggest the Summervile pier (Genny) or Irondequoit outlet. Both have good access, plenty of parking and will have the specie you're looking for. Tom B. (LongLine)

is my boat good enough for lake Ontario?
LongLine replied to derek22's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Always keep an eye on the weather and use common sense no matter what size boat you have. That rig should handle nicely out there for the majority of the time. Watch out for the nor'easters - They cause some big bumps all along the southern shore. Tom B. (LongLine) -
What you gon'na use for a transom? Tom B. (LongLine)

Adam - On a single rigg'r run the bottom one longer than the top. If a fish sees the top one but shys away, he'll probably sink down a little & whammo - he'll see the bottom one. With clean spoons, 5-7 ft apart should be fine. If you're running a flasher/fly, give it a little more space. Tom B. (LongLine)
-
The reel is more important than the rod. As long as you have a smooth drag & lots of line you'll be fine. I've used 6 ft'rs to 8 ft'rs - Cherrywoods, Graphites, glass & composites but the biggest difference was when I invested in some good reels. Tom B. (LongLine)

Welcome to the site. Where abouts you going to be? N, S, E or West? It's a big lake. Best bet is to hit the streams/river/bay mouths early. Water is very warm nearshore on the south & east side. Salmon should start sniffing their home streams any day now but won't stay shallow very long. Tom B. (LongLine) BTW - NY has a two line per person law right now & you must be in immediate attendance of them.

If the weight has any kind of fin then it is advised to place the release above it. Additionally any kind of flasher should also be run w/release above any kind of weight. Tom B. (LongLine)

Before we get our tail feathers in a tizzie – check out what the bill says, not just what the media says: 1st from the press release itself: http://www.nysenate.gov/press-release/s ... egislation Then the actual bill (my underline) http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S5844-2011 Tom B. It might not be the connection to the battery but rather the conection of the wire to the connector. Tom B. (LongLine)
