    Boat wiring

Moderators, if this post is outside the website rules, please delete it. I need to do some re-wiring on my old Starcraft and went on a search to find the components I needed, ring terminals, lugs, heat shrink tube, wire, etc. without breaking the bank, but using good products. I found a company online, American made products, good quality, good prices, fair shipping charges. I ordered a laundry list of stuff at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, and they had the order shipped out USPS Priority mail Saturday morning. All the components were packaged in small plastic bags with the contents, size, quantity etc. clearly marked, and had a hand written note on the invoice thanking me for my order. Anyone doing electrical work on "This Old Boat" my want to have a look. I am not connected with this company in any way. Jim S. http://gregsmarinewiresupply.com/Zen/
  2. Most of the major manufacturers websites will have the users manuals available for download in PDF format. I downloaded a number of them and reviewed all the features available, along with ease of use. Some are very user friendly, others make you jump through a number of screens or menus to make an adjustment. I found the Funuro 620 with an Airmar P66 transducer to be in my price range, easy to use, and a good fit for an aluminum trailer boat. Here's a review of the unit http://www.marine-electronics-reviews.c ... cv620.html
  3. Check out the 80-20 website.... not boat related, but we use this stuff at work to build support frames for robots.. you could retro fit something for your narrow gunnels. The 15 series, profile #1575 may work.. Just my $.02 http://8020.net/T-Slot-4.asp
  4. Potsie, I made a mistake in the post above.... I have the 3 STEP ladder on my boat, not the 2 step. I copied the wrong link from Bass Pro. Here's the correct link: http://www.basspro.com/Drifter-Marine-S ... 405263327/ Here's a few pics..
  5. Potsie, I have this ladder on the transom of my 17 foot Starcraft outboard.... fits like a glove. http://www.basspro.com/Drifter-Marine-S ... 405263326/
  6. Wife and I walked out last Monday... wearing only sneakers... Note the house on the point ..Picture taken looking West same house as first pic.... we were almost to the channel markers In spring 2011, the water was up to the white rub rail on the dock... "welcome to Braddocks Bay car top boat launch".. A few more.......
  7. I caught a nice Dog Fish once......
  8. I may be wrong, buy I was under the impression the ramps were going to be closed for a few months while the Hojack railroad bridge was removed..??
  9. All my fly leaders are tied with 2 single hooks, no trebbles . For fly and leader storage, I use a Bass Pro plastic worm binder much like this one....one rigged fly in each bag. buy a few extra bags too !
  10. Capt. Paul, you are correct.... as I recall, the old unit I used was an 8008, not 8002. The 8008 had a nice CRT fish finder as well as Loran..... thinking he could still use the FF part.
  11. King is still in business. Here's a link to their website.... maybe thay can help with a users manual. ...Used an 8002 years ago, nice unit. http://kingmarineelectronics.com/
  12. Try this one... http://www.hodgesmarine.com/Garmin-Gpsmap-431s-Gps-Dual-Beam-Combo-p/gar010-00765-01.htm
  13. Nice looking rig for an "84".... beautiful set up !!
  14. Dodgers still looking for a new home !!
  15. zackblain, I'm one of the few old school guys who stack 2 rods on a single rigger on a regular basis, and I use Blacks releases. First thing, I have a piece of plainer board line about a foot long, tie a loop on each end, half hitch one end on the 'rigger boom ,then snap the Blacks stacker in the other loop while the ball is up out of the water. You can set the lower release and lower the ball down...... the stacker will stay high and dry as the cable slides through it. See picture below. You can lock the stacker to the cable with square tooth picks, pushing the tooth pick in from the TOP, then break off the extra. Pinning from the top will allow the the release to free itself when you retrieve the ball, the release will hit the rigger pulley and stop, the cable will pull the tooth pick out of the release hole as it continues to spool up on the rigger. ..... this is the old way. I now use Scotty auto stop beads to set my stacker. I have a stop bead on the rigger cable 10ft. above the ball. Stacker release rides the cable between the lower release and the stop bead. Set up as above, but no tooth pick. The bend in the rod and the water pressure of moving forward keeps the release tight against the bottom of the stop bead. Once tripped, the release slides down the cable to the ball. You could put the stop bead any distance from the ball I suppose... I do use my beads as a true "auto stop" with my riggers, so a 10 ft. spread works for me. Just my $.02 Holding stacker up while lowering ball
  16. If the fish are deep, I stack 2 rods off each downrigger. There are many opinions on this board about this technique, But I started out this way back 20 years ago, before junk rods were all the rage.... I still believe it's the best way to put baits exactly where I want them. Just my $.02
  17. The model I am selling is for a Mossberg 500 12ga. shotgun. part # KLT01. I ran about a dozen rounds through the gun with this stock on. I like this stock a lot, but have decided to order the traditional style version. I shoot left handed and have small hands and the pistol grip makes it harder for me to reach the slide release. A right handed shot, or someone with larger hands is a better fit for this stock. Paid $110, Selling for $80. I will pay shipping to a US address. Built In Recoil Suppression System Reduces Shoulder Battering.... Made in USA Easy-to-install kit turns an ordinary pump shotgun into an easy-to-control tactical or self-defense gun. Adjustable, six-position, AR-style buttstock has a generous rubber recoil pad and built-in spring-loaded recoil suppression system that reduces shoulder battering. Aids shooters of all sizes, skill levels, and body types to shoot more accurately, with faster followup shots. Ergonomic pistol grip and tactical forend with deeply grooved, no-slip surface further enhance control. Includes sling swivel adapter and five-shot shell carrier that mounts on either side of stock (holds 12 gauge shells only). Drop-in installation: just unbolt factory buttstock and forend, and install the KickLite components with the included mounting hardware. Here's a link to Brownell's for more info and pics. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=4079 ... ICAL-STOCK PM or email direct. [email protected]
  18. 7 Dodgers: 4 Luhr-Jenson size 0 8" 2 Luhr-Jenson size 00 6" 1 Shasta Sling Blade 9") $30 plus shipping. PM Thanks, Jim S.
  19. I run both. Like any other lure, on some days one works a bit better than the other.... I'm old school, so it's dodger / squid (hoochie) or flasher / fly.... usually flashers off the wire, dodgers off the deep rigger. I start with one of each with a few spoons in the mix to try and get a feel for what the fish want. Just my $.02
  20. I also use the auto stop beads on my Scotty's with the coated D/R cable. I covered the bead with shrink tubing and CAREFULLY heated the shrink tubing to encase the bead in its own little cocoon.... slides through the antenna smooth as silk.. Jim S.
  21. Someone posted pics of both fish side by side a few years back. I still have the pic for reference, but don't know who to give the credit to.... Here it is...Browns on top, Atlantics on the bottom.
  22. Instead of bed liner, check this out. http://www.tuffcoat.net/wordpress/
