  1. Two photos taken 6 months apart.... Braddocks Bay boat ramp, November 2012 and June 2013....
  2. Try the ships store at Shumwy marina at the port or Rochester ( East side, near the bridge )
  3. This article on bilge pumps and boat saftey is worth a second look... I made some changes on my rig after reading this. http://www.docksidereports.com/small_boat_safety_at_sea.htm
  4. Switched to the Amish Outfitters spectra line this year... the best I've used.
  5. I would suggest Sodus Bay, in Wayne County. Check out the Bay Bridge Sport Shop on the South end of the bay. They can give you the latest fishing info. and also have all the bait / tackle and boat rentals you need..... I've been fishing there since '84 http://baybridgesportshop.com/ Jim S.
  6. Trace it on a piece of Stardoard and cut it out with a jig saw or router......
  7. I use a home made version of the box Kuba showed us above.... love it. As for flys, I use a tackle binder bag like this one.
  8. tlombardozzi, I have been using Slide Divers for the last 8 years as mono divers in the spring, and on my wire divers later in the season. I will never use a Dipsy or Walker diver again after fine tuning my program. ( not a slam on the other products, just MY opinion as a small boat solo fisherman ) Drop me a PM if you like. I'll be happy to help get you started.
  9. I also fish solo most of the time out of Rochester or Braddocks Bay.I usually start with 3 different presentations, one off the board, lead core or top line, one off the rigger , and one off the wire diver. As stated above, change up speed, trolling direction and lure depth frequently until you start to ger bit. With only 3 rods out, I opt for long leads when fishing high in the water column with the clear water and flat, sunny conditions we've been having lately. Some times the fish are just plain "turned off"... I recall reading about one of the Pro Am weekends either last year or the year before, some of the Pro boats came in with empty coolers, As a weekend warrior who only gets to fish 2-3 times a month, I don't get upset if I have a bad day knowing that the best fishermen on the lake struggle from time to time I'll be out of Rochester Monday morning...... looking for kings.. Jim S.
  10. My first King, fall of 1989, ESLO Derby.... fishing between Irondequout Bay and The Port Of Rochester with a friend out of his old 16ft. Sea Nymph side console. First hit of the morning was a king just about 25lbs, off the rigger. NK mag...... biggest fish I'd ever seen. I got all excited about heading in to get her on the scales, My buddy Dave ( who used to run Strike Zone Charters out of Sandy ) grins, shrugs his soulders and pulls every thing so we can head in. We hit the old warehouse at the Port Of Rochester for the ESLO way station. I proudly walk in holding my "big KIng" and the man at the sign in table tells me "son, we don't bother weighing in fish this small in the fall derby".......... I look back at Dave who smiled and said: " you had to hear it for yourself.. you would have never believed me." ..... My "not so big " king went back in the cooler ans we headed back out... me dejected but wondering how big do these things get?????.. first king.bmp
  11. As of Monday morning, still plugged up with big logs and debris....
  12. Thanks for all the imput. Again, I'm talking about charging with a 2 amp trickle charger for a few hours overnight before a morning trip just to top them off. I have no intention of leaving the new batteries on the charger all the time like I did with the old onboard charger.
  13. I keep 2 batteries on my 17 footer. One is the starting battery, the second is isolated as a backup and drives the bow mount electric. Question: If i connect both batteries together with jumper cables, positive to positive, negative to nevative, and connect a 2W trickle charger to one of the batteries, can I safely assume both batteries will accept a charge and come to full charge? I had an on board charger malfunction last fall, both batteries gassed out, leaked acid and destroyed some wiring. Planning on using an external charger and topping the new batteries off the night before a trip, hoping to charge both safely at once. Thanks for the help. Jim S.

  20. My marine buss bar install, 2 large wires on the right are 6ga. power from the battery. The two black squares ant the top are inline blade fuses for the riggers, the other various wires go to the helm, to power electronics, auto pilot, and a separate direct line to the VHF radio. The smaller 18ga. wire powers the Depth Raider. Check out this link for supplys... all American made stuff, great prices, fast service. http://gregsmarinewiresupply.com/Zen/
  21. Chas, I tie my own leaders and use both trebbles and single hooks. The singles have an offset eye, so I tie the snell and the hook and leader are nice and straight. The trebble hooks have an eye in line with the shank, using a snell makes the hook turn off to the side, so for me, Palomar for trebbles, snell for singles offset eye, Snell straight eye, Palomar Just my $.02 Jim

    Boat wiring

Moderators, if this post is outside the website rules, please delete it. I need to do some re-wiring on my old Starcraft and went on a search to find the components I needed, ring terminals, lugs, heat shrink tube, wire, etc. without breaking the bank, but using good products. I found a company online, American made products, good quality, good prices, fair shipping charges. I ordered a laundry list of stuff at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, and they had the order shipped out USPS Priority mail Saturday morning. All the components were packaged in small plastic bags with the contents, size, quantity etc. clearly marked, and had a hand written note on the invoice thanking me for my order. Anyone doing electrical work on "This Old Boat" my want to have a look. I am not connected with this company in any way. Jim S. http://gregsmarinewiresupply.com/Zen/
