This seems very simple. If you live in PA stay in Pa. and that goes for any other states. This virus is spread by people moving it from place to place. Stay home The government is being forced to make all the rules and closures because selfish people just don’t get it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Do regular radio checks, but do them on a recreational communications channel, not on 16, 9, 22 or any other restricted channel. Something the authorities find quite aggravating is when a recreational boater calls on an emergency channel requesting a "radio check." Hailing "TowBoatUS" on 68 is an easy way to conduct a check. What channels should you use for regular conversations? Channels 68, 69, 71, 72, and 78A are considered non-commercial channels, and in most areas, 68 and 72 are commonly used by the recreational-boating community. But remember that the VHF is officially for "operational" purposes. This can be as informal as passing on a weather report, but conversations about what the dog chewed up yesterday are inappropriate. Some channels, such as 70, have restricted use, and you can't use them for voice communications. This is a quote from the USCG radio protocol manual. Asking for a radio check on 16 will probably get you a warning from the coast guard to “ move your idle chatter to a recreational frequency “. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Stay in PA. Spreading this virus is not worth a trip to the lake. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I just registered my trailer on- line. Got to the end and it said “ oops there’s been a problem “. Instead of trying again I went back to. MyDmv. The registration is now valid to 12/2020. Before you re enter your card #. Check to see if the transaction actually went through Now I hope my sticker gets here sometime before December. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

It is mandatory to monitor channel 16. It is the emergency and hailing frequency In general, any vessel equipped with a VHF marine radiotelephone (whether voluntarily or required to) must maintain a watch on channel 16 (156.800 MHz) whenever the radiotelephone is not being used to communicate. I’m unsure of legality , but imho , it is irresponsible to risk catching and thereby spreading this virus. I intend to wait and hope that they contain and are able to treat this thing. The sooner it’s contained. The sooner we can all get our lives back to normal Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I always use Mason 150# coated cable on my probe side. The fish hawk doesn’t require coated cable , that’s a plus. If you get the fish hawk , spend the extra $ and get actual depth. It is an eye opener Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

There are tons of information about blowback and depth. The thing you have to consider is geometry. The angle of your cable has to be considered. I made charts years ago telling how much cable must be out to reach a certain depth at a certain cable angle. There are times , especially in currents , that it takes 150 ft of cable to reach a depth of 100 ft Don’t make the mistake of thinking that havingv70 ft of cable out , you are fishing at 70 ft. And don’t let your sonar (distance finder ) trick you into believing that your weight is at the same level as the fish. It’s not. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I have mag10 STX cannons they handle 16 lb troutman weights without a problem. I’ve been fishing Lake O since the late 70’s. My experience with weights: stay away from pancake weights , in a current they take on a life of their own and wander causing MAJOR tangles. I have 10 and 12 pound finned balls. Hardly ever use them. Keep one on board as a spare ( hope I never need it lol) 10 lb would be ok down to about 50 ft. After that the blowback becomes problematic 12 is minimum 16 is better , especially if you are sending a probe down Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Entering Canadian water
chinook35 replied to Lilogundog's topic in St. Lawrence River Fishing Reports - 1000 Islands Fishing
Canadian laws are strict. Porta potties are illegal and as previously mentioned flare pistols are considered weapons and are illegal. Check with customs about what to do entering Canadian waters. You can get an ontario license on Hill island , just over the bridge from Wellesley Island. I used to get my Can license every year , I fished Charity shoal and it’s very easy to stray into Can ada A violation will probably mean you will be towed to Kingston and pay a hefty fine. You may even lose your boat and equipment Be cautious Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

Innocent until proven guilty. That’s the way it works. But if the allegations prove true and he is guilty. A slap on the wrist is unacceptable. These are felonies. He needs to lose all rights to gun ownership. Forfeiture of his guide and hunting license. He should lose his fishing charter business in the mix. That probably won’t happen He would just put the business in his wife / girlfriend name and business as usual. Any body who uses his services , if he is found guilty , has no right to call themselves sportspeople Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
