  1. Go with the black. I had a chrome 15 lb Shark on the probe/chute rigger that was getting a lot less hits behind it than my corners with black 12 lb cannonballs. Painted the shark black and immediately had more hits. JAM
  2. I agree that the chartreuse and yellow with chrome patterns were very good this year. (Better than I remember in the past.) Yellow tuxedo NK28 Yellow NBK Stingray UV Icee Stingray JAM
  3. I know you are very afraid the Jammer team will win it all if you tell your secrets! Here's your opportunity for misdirection...!! Ha!
  4. Well, this year on the big O was certainly different than those in recent memory. I noticed that some of the spoons that were hot hot hot in 2012 were dead dead dead in 2013. In particular, it seemed that the last half of the season (maybe after the calcium cabonate whitening event with chalky blue green water?) everything had changed. One of my best and hottest lures in 2012 was a FLT Martha Stewart magnum. It took multiple shots with a few big kings every trip. This year... dead. Stingray green NBKs had always been a standy with me for years. 2013... dead. A few that DID (continue to) work really well this year were Moonshine Carbon-14 mags, DW glow froggies and superglow wonderbreads. Anyone else experience this? What stopped working? What worked great this year? I'm interested to hear.... Pulling the boat this weekend... need something to think about for next year. JAM
  5. I have used my Moor Sub Troll reasonably successfully for many years now, but am getting tired of the constant issues, need for the wet paper towel on the antenna, regular replacing of the coated cable and even still, generally mediocre performance... So, I'm pretty sure I'm going to put an X4 or X4D on the Christmas list. For those of you that have purchased one, how do you like the X4/X4D? Pros and cons? Worth the money? I have twin inboards, so wonder about ideal placement of the transom mounted transducer given the props are ahead of the transom. Any issues with this? (I know there is some element of "religion" regarding down speed and temp probe brand preference, but hope to get some useful feedback...) Thanks all for your help in advance! JAM
  6. Thanks guys! I'll check with him to see if he's more interested in action or size. Good info! JAM
  7. I have a friend who is hoping to take a Musky charter on the Niagara this fall. Who would you recommend - and why? thanks, JAM
  8. I had a chrome shark weight on my chute rigger that for years took less fish than my corners with black cannon weights. I just painted the shark black and have taken more hits per trip. So... I think maybe the chrome shark was "too much" and black is better. JAM
  9. "Stripping" the coating back a couple feet may be tough. I always just burn it off with a lighter, then shine up the wire core with some sandpaper or emery cloth. JAM
  10. After the first few trips using the CW-303D, I would have to say I'm not feeling like it is an 'upgrade' to the Convector. The drag does not seem as smooth (although it hasn't really been 'burned in' with a true screamer out to 700' yet...), and the main issue is the clutch lever doesn't always stay engaged when you click it forward. Not impressed so far. I like my old Convectors better at this point, but I'll keep giving the new Coldwater it's time in the rod holder... JAM
  11. There were tons of kings down 110-150 over 140-160 FOW, but you could NOT get them to bite. I think they were gorged on Emerald Shiners...
  12. Whatever you do, make sure you get Carbon-14 and Shelly Snack in the Magnums, and Snack Attack and Geezer in the Half-moons. JAM
  13. Nice job guys! Great expo, great exhibitors, and great fun. JAM
  14. Just bought one of the CW-303D from overstock.com. 93 bucks delivered. I love the Convector CV-30D as a wire dipsy reel and wanted to give this new reel a try. Will let you know how it goes in the spring... JAM
  15. I've had the same issues with two out of three next to new Mag 10HS on my boat. I cut the crummy things off and replaced the connectors with trailer wire connectors. I just wire green and brown to GND and yellow and white to +12. Work great! They have them at Home Depot for 7 bucks a set. JAM
  16. Hey Matt. Definitely an insane bite. Just Skamaniac and me on the boat and we had a quad going... Two wires and two riggers all ripping and bouncing. Jeez what a great predicament!!! JAM [ Post made via iPhone ]
  17. Hey Guy, Yep! Hee hee! Sure enough. How did you know??! Jammer
  18. Caught this king with a deformed lower jaw yesterday, and thought I'd share a pic and ask some opinions: That is the tongue hanging down between the two distinct sides of the lower jaw. Do you think this is a birth defect or a healed over injury? I wonder if maybe this guy was caught as a shaker and the hooks took the whole front lower jaw with them... Other than the obvious deformity, he was healthy and strong. Hit a spinny/fly combo out 333 on the wire and ripped out to 460 in a hurry. Weighed between 20 and 21, and swam away with no issues after a quick revive and release. JAM
  19. Nice! That second pic is a Corona commecial for sure! JAM
