  1. The Moonshine Carbon-14 is a very good producer for me. I run it cheated with another Moonshine - a Magnum Flounder Pounder (either one on top or bottom -- both take fish in both locations) My Fall 08 LOC 13th place Brown took a Carbon-14 running under the cheated Flounder Pounder. I've also taken lots of 20-24# Kings and a few steelies on the same setup. Good lures. (Oh, BTW, I always put a silver laser ladder back on the Carbon-14 -- Moonshine now offers that as their Silver-Carbon) (Sorry about it catching your hand, mountain goat...) JAM
  2. Hey Ray, I'm not saying I catch many hoes on O, but I think some of those Lake M charters like to find a school and load up the boat with them when they're hitting the little orange dodgers and cheddar flies. (Lots of those rigs in the pictures...) JAM
  3. There are definitely lots of Kings there, but I see a lot more Cohos.
  4. We fished just west of Braddocks in 80 to 115 FOW from 8:30 til about 11:00 this AM, and went 4 for 6. We managed to hit the (modified) Lake O. cycle again -- 2nd time in a week! King - NK28 Watermelon (mupped) 55 down on the rigger over 80 Brown - Nitro Stingray Twister (glow ghost) 90 down on the probe rigger over 95 Atlantic - NK28 Watermelon (mupped) 75 down on the rigger over 105 Rainbow - Stingray NBK - 8 colors on the leadcore over 100 Dropped a pretty good one after a rip on the braided dipsey out 300 with the black-glow/green-dots Spinny and Hammer fly. Lost a steelie just back of the net that also hit the Nitro Twister Stingray. Once again, some really nice fish but not LOC size... one more try tomorrow morning. Good luck to all. Oh, HEADS UP, the lower unit dragged in the sand at the outermost channel markers going in and out of Braddocks with the boat up on plane. The season is just about over... JAM
  5. Well, we added a nice Atlantic to yesterday's Lake O. cycle! Dad, eldest son and I went out and had a slow but nice morning. Atlantic - 7#, 26 inches. It hit the Green-glow Pro Troll and Skein Machine Fly out 330 on the wire over 140 FOW. King - 15# deep bronze mature male. Same setup, same depths. Steelhead (no pic) - Stingray Mixed Veggies on the 10 color core over 120 FOW. Skipper King (no pic) on the Caramel Dolphin Spinny and Crazy B Fly down 125 on the rigger over 135? FOW. 3 more rips and drops on the dipsies -- those buggers are straightening out my hooks... JAM
  6. Thanks guys. Chris, the 4th pic down is the coho. Gray gums, no spots on bottom of tail (and only just a few on top), and anal fin has a couple less rays than the king. (Compare to the king in 2nd pic down). Cheers. Good luck to all in the derby... we've been catchin' em', but as my wife says "they're not big enough -- just babies"... JAM
  7. Fished with wife and Dad from 7:30 til 11:30 this morning from Russel to I-bay, with best action from the Genny to I-bay. Started early in 75 to 80 FOW and found 63F water down 80. Headed out deeper and started hitting everything in 55-58F water at 90 to 100 down in 100 to 105 FOW. Almost all the marks were on or near the bottom. Anyway, hit for the Lake O. cycle on spoons. 6# Steelhead on Stingray Mixed Veggies down 90 over 90 10# King on Stingray Mixed Veggies down 90 over 95 5.5# Brown on Stingray Mixed Veggies down 100 over 100 8# Coho on DW SS Getter Dun down 90 over 105 15# King on Silver Streak Green Dolphin Mag out 325 on braided dipsy over 105 Dropped two others on Flasher/flies out 300 on the wires. One was a mid-size king - pulled the hook with the back of the net. BEAUTIFUL morning on the water. JAM
  8. Shawn, Good report. I've had lots of drops on the flys off the wires lately too. Must be the hard mouths. JAM
  9. Ditto what Shade said. If the manufacturer goes to the trouble of putting a ring on, then they feel it gives better action. I also don't put a ring on those that don't come with them. JAM
  10. That's a king. Spots top and bottom of tail, black gums, anal fin 2x longer than first ray. Nice fish. I'd like to see that spoon! JAM
  11. My two best producers are very similar to Jeremy's: White glow green-dots Spin Dr. and Atommik Hammer fly Green glow Pro-troll and Atommik Skein Machine Fly
  12. Hey fdny76 -- thanks for the comeback! I know that spot very well -- go by there all the time. I never would have guessed it, but maybe walleye spawn somewhere up Salmon Creek? Keep up the good work, JAM
  13. fdny76 -- I live near and fish just outside of Braddocks a lot and have caught many northerns there, but never a walleye. Where have you found walleye in/near Braddocks? thanks JAM
  14. WOW! Awesome steelie! Haven't seen any nearly that big this year. Good job. JAM
  15. I just used www.gloutdoors.com a couple weeks ago and was very happy. They have a good selection, I got my order in 3 days, and their prices are better than almost everywhere. JAM
  16. Definitely a King. Spots on top and bottom of tail and black gums/lips. Nice color... JAM
  17. Took the wife out Saturday AM to a nice flat lake, sunny skies and pleasant temps. We went 6 for 6 with 2 nice Kings and 4 nice Steelhead, including the rosiest pink male rainbow we've caught. It had beautiful pink gill plates, sides, and fins. All were caught west of Braddocks in 180 to 280 FOW. Down temps at the 100 foot probe ranged from 42 to 60, with some very definite currents carrying the cold water in and out. The details: - 16 lb. King on the green-dots Spin Dr. and Hammer fly out 280 on the wire dipsy - 5-6 lb Steelhead on the green-glow Pro-troll and Skein Machine Fly off the 80 rigger - 5-6 lb. Steelhead on the Purple Nurple Moonshine spoon on the 100 rigger - 7.5 lb. Steelhead on the green-glow Pro-troll and Skein Machine Fly off the 85 rigger - 19 lb. King on the dalmation black-dots Spin Dr. and Hammer fly out 300 on the wire dipsy - 7 lb. Rainbow on the magnum Purple Nurple Moonshine spoon cheated 10 feet above the 100 rigger Bite was consistent from 7:45 when we got set up til 10:15, then it totally shut off. Pulled lines at 11:00. JAM
  18. Sounds like you got yourself a nice Steelhead. Congrats. Welcome to the obsession. You're hooked! JAM
  19. That Moonshine spoon looks like a Turkish Pepper Magnum. Nice fish! JAM
  20. My favorite wire rod is the 9'6" Daiwa Heartland MH. Good price/value and it's got the beef to whip the bigguns. You can probably get a season or more out of it before you'll need a twilly tip. JAM
  21. Ditto on the Heartlands. I've had Firewolfs that have snapped in two. Haven't tried the Wilderness though. JAM
  22. Hey Bill, Awesome job on the 28.01. Congrats. Sorry to hear about the lost tackle. Were you using clear snubbers? I've had a couple fish open up the Owner trebles on A-tom-mik tourney flies this year even with the reels set to tick out line at the slightest speed variation or wave. Those were always on dipsy rigs where I'd skipped the snubbers. JAM
  23. Good Job PH. Did you get a pic of the 14# Coho? I think they are awesome fish! That would be agood one for the grill! JAM
  24. Moonshine Carbon-14 NK Diehard (HGLBW, I think) both 28 and Mag JAM
  25. I have the Precision Trolling Big Water Edition and looking at the curves it appears that the 107mm Deeper Diver is closest to the No. 1 Dipsy without the ring. With the ring on, the Dipsy goes a bit deeper. JAM
