  1. What Legacy said! Only other comment is sometimes I prefer a good ole improved clinch knot on the treble rather than the snell because it hangs straighter. When I tie a snell the hook gets cocked off at a goofy angle! Hee hee. JAM
  2. Thanks Rob! I had it as .gov instead of .us Jeff
  3. Did anyone get the proper email address to get on their mailing list? I think I must have copied it down wrong cuz my email request is bouncing. thanks, JAM
  4. Looks a lot like a BOHICA. Nice! JAM
  5. Another vote for the Fishin' Chip. I use it in my Lowrance and the depth contour detail is awesome. Look for those tight groups of lines and the fish are there!!! JAM
  6. I like the Okuma Classic Pro GLT copper/leadcore rod. CPCL-862M 8'6" Medium Line Weight: 12-27 lbs. Lure Weight: 1-1/2 - 4-1/2 oz. Pieces: 2 You can get it for under $40 with shipping if you look around on the web. JAM
  7. I often fish with just one person on board with me, and being able to *legally* run those 5th and 6th rods is the best! love it! JAM
  8. Merry Christmas Gang! Thanks to all for a great year of sharing advice, conditions, and results! Wishing you all the best in 2012. Peace. JAM (Jeff)
  9. I'd say 700LC. Or try the Okuma Convector CV-45D or the Okuma Clarion 454D. JAM
  10. If you don't need a line counter, then the Clarion 553LS is an awesome copper reel. Super high speed, and big enough to use as a 300, 400 or even a 500. (Use Powerpro for backing, not Mono.) If you want more versatility, then a Shimano Tekota 800LC with the line counter will allow you to run different lengths with the ability to do precision resets when you find the depth that's working. I have them both and they are both great reels and definitely worth the money. JAM
  11. Is that just oilslick crush tape on a silver blank? Seems easy enough... Thanks! [ Post made via iPhone ]
  12. In Dan Keating's book, "Keating on Kings", he identifies the Blue Oz Mauler as being a great king spoon. I looked on the Howie's Tackle site and see Mauler Spoons, but not the "Blue Oz" pattern. Does anyone here know what that looks like or have a pic of one? thanks, JAM
  13. He'll probably put you in the ST70 head unit, X10 controller, and Type 1 Pump. Figure on $2500 plus install. JAM
  14. Wow! Nice bowfin. You might want to report that one on www.bowfinanglers.com JAM
  15. Mark, That's great -- those CRAA guys over at Port Credit are doing a nice job. Mine had a sky blue colored tag. It's very cool to know how much the fish move all over the lake... JAM
  16. Nice steel. That's a Credit River Anglers Association tag. I got one earlier this year on a similar nice steelie. You can report your catch on their website, too. Was there a tag number or just the phone number? JAM
  17. We caught this guy on Saturday 8/20 around 8am. On the boat he weighed around 27... we fished til 2, then weighed it in just for kicks. 25.15 on the scale at Mitchells. Dropped off the board from 18th as soon as the scales opened on Sunday. It hit a white e-chip and blue hammer A-tom-mik out 295 on a 2.5 on the wire in 150 FOW west of Braddocks almost to the lighthouse. Good luck to all! JAM
  18. Anytime: Green/Silver/Black/Glow (Diehard, NBK, Gator, etc. etc. etc.) Low light: Black/Glow (Carbon-14, Spook) 0-45 feet: (leadcore, shallow rigger) Orange/Red/Pink/Gold (Orange Crush, Steelie Dan, Caramel Dolphin) so: 1. NBK 2. Carbon-14 3. Orange Crush or maybe: 1. Gator 2. Spook 3. Caramel Dolphin FWIW, when I add eyes, they always go on the hook end. My guess is that fish do prefer to chomp head first. (or maybe not...) JAM
  19. Like Gambler says - Daiwa Heartland 8' 0" or 8' 6" are good. ($35) But Shakespeare Ugly Stik BWD 1101 8' 3" are my favorite. ($49) JAM
  20. If you wait a few weeks, you will be able to catch browns near shore (10 to 20 FOW) in the same area, on stickbaits and spoons. 12 lb test is perfect. JAM
  21. Go out to 90 to 140 Feet of Water starting at Braddocks heading west toward Sandy. Drop your lures into the 43 - 50 degree water and hang on! JAM
  22. "Lube for your Twili" Yeah -- and chicks dig it...
  23. I've been hearing guys on the radio refer to a spinny/fly set up as "measles". I think this is green dots. JAM
  24. I never use roller rods with wire. Daiwa Heartland 9-6 MH with a twilly tip does the trick. Cheap and good. JAM
