  1. I had a couple of rod holders that the clamp bolt started to show rust and Cisco replaced the bolts under their lifetime warranty. They said it was problem with a batch of bolts they had received from a supplier that year, give them a call I have a total of 15 Cisco rod holders on 2 boats that I had purchased over several years and this only happened on a couple of them so far
  2. I've never been a fan of the cradle type rod holders because they have limited use just for dipsies and the rod butts end up sticking into the boat I do have Cisco tube rod holders and I just pick the dipsy rod and holder straight up to remove the rod, same as you would with any ratchet type holder. My Cisco's are 7 years old and still look brand new
  3. Here's a post form GLA that compares the s1000 to the Lowrance, hope it helps http://www.glanglerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?23208-Autopilot-suggestions I has a s1000 and it would drop out at slow speeds when it lost it's mind if the GPS didn't send new info soon enough Not a problem now with my TR-1 because it relies on a heading sensor for info and it's much quicker to react. There is a limit for every auto pilot when you're trolling slow in windy conditions because at lower rpm's the motor doesn't provide enough thrust to steer against the wind and currents all the time, That's when bags help because you're running higher rpm's to maintain speed plus the stabilizing effect of the bags.
  4. You should be Ok as long as the cavitation plate is under the water far enough so the prop doesn't ventilate. On your main motor you need to have the cavitation plate even with the bottom so that when you are up on plane it stays in the water. When running a kicker you are never up on plane so it doesn't need to be set as low. Like Spike says, wave action may cause the kicker prop to ventilate when the boat is bobbing up and down a lot but this isn't usually a big problem.
  5. People are like fishing hooks, some are sharper than others.
  6. I believe it says: "A man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child fish." If I'm correct it looks like you missed a "space" before child but either way the statement is true!
  7. The two I'm familiar with are the Salmon Slam out of Sodus with Project Healing Waters in August http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/50956-sbhw-salmon-slam-august-1st-2015/ and the Wounded Warriors event out of Fair Haven http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/51638-fair-haven-all-aboard-weekend-wounded-warriors-and-special-needs-kids/?hl=%2Bfair+%2Bhaven
  8. If you want even less work look at a propane stove, just turn on the switch and no ashes to clean. With propane down to $1.69/gal it's not too expensive either.
  9. If you are willing to drive to Sodus you can try Arney's Marina http://www.arneysmarina.com/boat-rentals/ If the lake is too rough you can always fish the bay
  10. A 9' rod will give you enough tip separation between your diver rods and keep your inside diver line away from your rigger cable especially when you're turning or fighting currents. You may want to elevate your 10'6" rod a little higher than the inside rod so that the tips don't contact each other on a hard hit.
  11. Nick If it is a bent trim cylinder check with stern drive engineering for a new one About half the cost of merc and have worked just as good for me 3 years now Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  13. Full moon and clear nights = full bellies They're just snacking right now but stick with it and they'll get hungry and turn on sooner or later Are you marking much bait or just fish?

  15. Nick I'm getting worried about you...... A laker yesterday and a brownie today....... Are you starting to go to the "dark side"?
  16. Usually have both in the water till the fish tell me they have a preference. Each has their own unique action at any given speed.

  18. I have no idea how much work this would involve to put it altogether but TJ has a "new" 2002 Intruder hull for sale on his website, $200 http://www.pennyanboats.com/fiberglass.htm Probably the last hull they made and never finished Depending on any other issues with your hull it might be worth looking into, TJ would probably know what it takes to do it
  19. No problems with interference even when I'm running all three transducers together : structure scan, 83/200hz sonar, Fish Hawk Also have an Airmar 50/200hz B60 thru hull mounted about 3' ahead of these and only get a little interference on the graphs if I try to run both sonars together at 200hz, still doesn't bother the Fish Hawk
  20. Another great Salmon Slam spending time with some old friends and making new ones. Met up with Tom, the vet who was on my boat last year, on Friday at Arney's and he must be a glutton for punishment because he wanted to get back on my boat again this year. My boat was having some mechanical issues so I teamed up with Sammy Gee on his boat and we made plans for Saturday. With a Small Craft Advisory posted for after 10 am with a strong west wind and 2-3 footers we planned to head west out of the chute and troll into the wind for awhile so we could surf back when the waves built during the day. Sammy thought that was the best plan even though he thought the fish were East of the chute. Everything went well and it wasn't long before we were hooked up with our 1st king on a Green Dolphin down 85' over 175 fow. Tom was on the rod and it didn't take long for him to get the hang of it. The pressure was off, we had one in the box We bloodied the deck on Sammy's new to him ride And we bloodied Sammy's leg just for fun It's a good thing we had our medic on board just in case Next up turned out to be a Steely on a wire dipsy out 300' with a blue mirage fly which Tom handled like a pro. This fish won the steelhead division by .03 lbs. We ended up boxing 2 more kings, both off the riggers down 90-110, one on a glow gator and the other on a carmel dolphin. Now the waves had built up to 3-4 with some 5 footers mixed in for fun and we decided to pull lines and motor in. Even though we had headed West the wind had pushed us East and we now found ourselves East of Port Bay, Sammy was right, he had found the fish. But now we had a long ride back to Sodus into the wind, good thing we had Tom along to take us in Lunch was waiting for us when we got in and I had time to catch up with some guys I'd met in prior years. Every vet I talked with told me how much days like this mean to them and that they look forward to this every year. Thanks Nick and Theresa for putting this all together now for four years. Thanks to all the sponsors who help make it possible with their donations. Thanks to Arney's for taking such good care of us while we are there Thanks to all the volunteers who give their time to make it happen Thanks to all the veterans for their service Can't wait to do it again next year

  22. Should be able to get that P66 dialed in once you figure out what's causing the interference Does the interference change with motor rpm's (electrical) or does it seem to be just correlated with your speed (transducer placement). Try "revving up" your motor a little in neutral and see if it affects your screen. Does it get worse while you're using any other electrical device (riggers, radio, ect). If you do decide to go with a thru hull look at an Airmar B60, it has a wider cone angle than the B164 and might be better suited to our kind of trolling.
  23. The chain is to help your anchor flukes to dig into the bottom and hold better You want to be pulling sideways on the anchor and not upwards
  24. You need to adjust the front and rear tow string lengths a little shorter than BJ says You can also modify them by adding a second keel with 1/2 the weight if you want to pull long coppers Check out this previous post http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/37206-otter-boat/?hl=%2Botter+%2Bboard+%2Bstring
