Marked a lot of fish down 60-80 in 100-175 fow but didn't get any hits and from the chatter on the radio nobody else was doing much so i went out to 500. Hot rod was a wire dipsy out 300' with green echip and hypnotist fly, took 4 hits. The last hit came on a rigger down 114 with the same setup. Nothing on any other flies or spoons. Temp was 42 between 90-100' Big fish went 25.4, tired my wife right out, rest were 12-16. Great day to be on the water

I run a feed mill and weigh several "homemade" trailers every year on my truck scale. I just put a general description of the trailer ( # axles, color ) and the name of the person who will be registering on the weigh slip, should be enough info to keep DMV happy. DMV doesn't care about the inspection, they will probably give you a 10 day temporary sticker. The troopers are the ones who will check for a safety inspection sticker. Weigh slip might cost you $5.00 or a box of donuts for the guys at my place.

I could never get a good picture on 50hz with my x-19, had difficulty even holding a bottom reading, seemed like a lot of interference. The 50/200 transducer worked ok on the 200hz setting but maybe I needed to spend more time tweaking the settings for the 50hz. I was told Lowrance had some problems with the dual frequency transducer in that model and that the single 200hz worked better and cost less so I gave it a try and I do see a better picture now.

I had the same problems with a X-19c and sent the whole unit in for service. All Lowrance changed was a new 50/200 hz transducer and the unit worked ok. This year I replaced the 50/200hz transducer with a single freq. 200 hz and I have seen a lot better picture, more detail. The 200 hz transducer is smaller than the 50/200 so you will have to mount new brackets if you go this way. Best price I found was at byownerelectronics.com. mudflat

Line Dance The spro swivel is larger diameter than an albright know so it won't work with an Okuma unless you modify the line guide. You can try a haywire twist without a swivel and tie your leader to the loop, so far that has worked ok for me but I still put some heat shrink on the copper so it flows through the guides easier. Seems to be a little smaller than an albright knot. mudflat

There's a lot of good info there to get you started then you can look in the archived threads for more info as questions come to mind. As Ray said there is a lot of info on www.attheoak.com also. It takes time to get the basics down then you will start to realize how little we actually know and how much we still need to learn. That's what keeps it interesting and fun Mudflat

The quality of your rod holder makes a big difference, some are meant just for rods. When I used the Perko rod holders that came on my boat I had a lot of movement, they weren't built to take the stress that riggers put on them. I went to a set of Smith's that were designed for downriggers and it's a lot better now. Whatever you use make sure you thru bolt them with a good backer, no screws, riggers don't float well. I also use shorter arms on the riggers and keep them mounted low to minimize the leverage. I'll test them out this year, going from 10 to 15 lb weights. A track system is probably better but these have worked for me so far.

Asked A-TOM-MIK yesterday and he said the launch was open but the long docks aren't in yet. He saw one boat in the harbor and two trailers in the lot, no fishing reports yet.

Yankee, I also have a 225 4s that is very quiet when trolling and enjoy the humm of the rigger cables, that's probably why I notice the AP noise more. The noise comes from the hydraulic pump only when it is running, it will turn on and off briefly each time it needs to make a course adjustment. It is a med-low pitch "buzzing" noise probably around 75 decibels. The pump comes with 18" hoses which T into the back of the steering box and on my CC I had to mount the pump underneath the console where it is only covered by a plastic shroud. I insulated it and the lines with 1" foam rubber which helped. I searched on THT before I purchased the S1000 and comments there indicated that all AP's with hydraulic steering make similar noise. I've gotten used to the "buzz" and hardly notice it when I'm at the back of the boat. I was thinking of trying some more sound deadening foam under the cover and maybe lowering the sensitivity of the AP so it doesn't make as many course corrections. When I am running with the wind there are less course corrections needed so it is quieter. It isn't bad enough that I shut it off and I would buy the same unit again. Hope this helps Mudflat

Ken, I have had a S1000 for about a year on a 21' and what Yankee Clipper said is right on the mark. Mine holds ok below 2mph but you do need to be over 2.5 to get it to engage. When they first came out they would shut off at low speeds but then Raymarine updated the software to work down to about 1.25. I understand that you can have the older units updated if you send in the brain. Installation is pretty easy. My only complaint would be that the pump is fairly noisy even after insulating it. Still quiieter than having the wife steer. Mudflat
