  1. Grandkids will want to see the rods moving. Go out deep to 400' and troll north. Run spoons down 20'-70' for steelhead and smaller kings. Silver and orange or silver and Chartreuse patterns. Check weather before heading out as you may be the only boat out there.
  2. Here is one more.....5" silver Luhr Jenson shoehorn spoon http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Hard-Baits/Casting-Trolling-Spoons%7C/pc/104793480/c/104732280/sc/104260680/Luhr-Jensen-Shoehorn-Spoon/1160398.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fcasting-trolling-spoons%2F_%2FN-1100331%2FNo-48%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104260680%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104793480%253Bcat104732280%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNP%26gclid%3DCO7YqKeT1rkCFbFDMgodlVkAXw%26gclsrc%3Daw.ds%26recordsPerPage%3D48&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104793480%3Bcat104732280%3Bcat104260680
  3. Here is another that has been good in stingray size. http://www.fish307.com/michiganstingerspoons-208yellowkillerglow.aspx
  4. Northport Nailer 3.75'" Blue Mahi Glow http://www.northportnailer.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=22_24&products_id=290 Reason I like it.......it catches all species. Having the blues, greens, glow, orange and the flash of a silver cup covers almost the full spectrum of good fish catching colors in a pattern that looks realistic. I don't have to weed thru different colors "of the day" in my spoon collection to find the hot spoon when all the colors are represented in the pattern already.....and that breeds confidence. The spoon also works at the speed I like to troll at which is important (2.25 mph).
  5. I have two convectors that have seen two seasons......maybe 10 times in the water. One of the reel's line counter button needs to be replaced. I am upgrading to saltists and would not mind parting with both. Chad
  6. Was this boat slipped or trailered? Fresh or saltwater?
  7. Too expensive still??? Fine, $80.00 buyer pays shipping. Going once....going twice....
  8. Use this link to check lake conditions before going out in a Kayak. If was REAL snotty out there today. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=olcn6
  9. Water conditions perfect for early King action off pier. North wind blew some green lake water in to mix with the creek water to give a nice 4' visiblilty. Hooked two males on a Moonshine firetiger spoon at first light. 4 other fish caught on the usual firetiger jointed rapalas, spoons, firetiger mag wiggle warts etc. Ah Vince.....a little too close LOL. Proof of life photos. Let buddy reel in second fish....his first pier fish..(notice tuckered out forced smile).
  10. Thanks for the reports all year. Plan on making the trip up for the Sodus Pro/Am so I will make a point of introducing myself. Hitting the pier tonight.....Kings love wet nasty west coast-type weather when they come ashore...should be good for spoon huckin'.
  11. I believe if egg/fry/fingerling production is low with the state hatchery/altmar that they supplement their stocking with canadian fish which are then dumped into Niagara. Stands to reason anytime there is a shortfall at Altmar...three years later the Niagara run would be better in theory.
  12. http://www.alltackle.com/blue_water_candy_dredge.htm
  13. Backing.....I believe it was originally for a 450' Cu set-up.....which became a 300'....which then came to it's current state of lacking copper LOL. New secret weapon.......one of these days I will post how to run 6 divers without tangles.
  14. I am sure they have run all kinds of studies about the short term usage of the tagging program.....I wonder if the DEC knows if there are longer term ramifications? Does the chip interfere with the little nerve endings in the snout that might help the fish orient to their natal stream? I would prefer the fingerlings not be handled at all....we need everyone of the little buggers to make it.
  15. Maybe 1/2 of the 3 year old kings we caught this year had an intact adipose fin. One could conclude that the success of a fishing year would depend heavily on natural reproduction conditions in the rivers three years prior. Bad river temps during the spawn, river fishermen success/take, spring conditions etc. are going to be factors in the size of the pool of salmon to catch out in the lake. I also question the practice of inserting the micro chips into the nose of young fragile salmon fry.....do we really know what the actual mortality is of fish undergoing this process? What about the mortality of the adipose fin clipping machine? I would also add that if conditions in the smaller tribs were too warm that fish will move with the rest of the school elsewhere. This year I think most are going to the Salmon, but a large portion of the western fish are going up the Niagara. The bottom line is based on observed bait pods on the fishfinder.......we need more kings stocked!!!!!!
  16. Oh no fishies.........you in trouble.
  17. Buffalo area. Can ship for you and run a credit card thru my business if that is easier.
  18. Selling my Penn 345 GTI copper reel. Comes with backing only as my divers took care of the copper. Asking $100.00. The reel has seen the water maybe 10 outings total. Getting out of copper game.
  19. Yep, Lake Trout are effected by the alewife Thiaminase problem as well so gobies may be the key to their future reproductive success. There may be a day when there are too many Lakers and Brian can enter them in the LOC derby?
  20. Birth defect or a treble hook induced injury that never would have closed without sutures.
  21. I will refrain from making a joke about Stinger getting his balls sucked because I am a gentleman.
  22. The two species Kings and Atlantics will be forever joined at the hip (or caudal fin). Without the Kings to keep the alewives in check.....atlantics will never make it. One of the theories about the increased numbers and size of Atlantics being caught is there may be an increase in fitness with the stocked atlantics due to goby ingestion (of all things). Where as the invasive alewife is high in the reproduction killing enzyme Thiaminase, research at Cornell has concluded that the equally invasive goby is rich in Thiamine. Seems to me the best of the Lake O story is yet to come. We may have a day when we have fishable runs of both species to target.
  23. 27" is fine. Try getting your speed up to 2.25-2.5 downspeed.
