  1. I, also, agree that A-TOM-MIK is awesome! I bought a lot of gear and equipment from Tom this season and couldn't be happier. I had a chance to meet and talk to him at Fat Nancy's open house this March and he represents a market which demands quality products that work. Everywhere you go around the Pulaski & Port Ontario area, A-TOM-MIK products are advertized. There is a reason for that. His stuff works!!! I'm putting a list together of some more items to add to my arsenal before the season closes out. Thanks, Tom, for all you have done for our fishery and the sport!
  2. Did the boat make it back to Mexico Point? Bonnie, the attendant at the launch, said it was being towed back, still capsized. Glad the guys were safely rescued and they are ok. I did see their boat Sunday in Port Ontario across from Woody's. You just never know, especially on the lake.
  3. Just think. On a weekend like we're having, all of the turbines would have to be shut down.
  4. Good question. One of my "to do" items is to spool (2) of my riggers with 400' of cable, should we have to go that deep to find the Kings. It's been a crazy season, that's for sure.
  5. My plans are to stay off the water and not risk being hurt, injured, capsized, sunk, etc. I have some things I've been meaning to do on the boat and I need to get all my gear re-organized and put away. Forecast looks like the winds will begin to let up on the east end Sunday afternoon with waves subsiding to 2-4 feet. Hopefully the pattern continues and Monday morning the lake is fishable before I head home.
  6. While I own lakefront property along the lake, I am a PA resident. With all that is happening, I wish there was some way property owners along the lake could vote in the elections to express our displeasure in how things are being run, regardless of which state we reside in. I can only imagine the shock these politicians would have if that were allowed. I have taken steps already and have sent emails and letters into the respective representatives for Oswego County who are also against the windfarm project and rejected it at the meeting. These people have replied to me over and over, and understand and know the pinwheels are not for our lake - not now, not in the future. I continue to monitor what is going on, typically on a daily or every other day basis. I call NY State home, as well, despite my driver's license saying Pennsylvania, and I refuse to let my view of the lake and my fishing grounds be visually and physically destroyed because some politician only sees green filling his pockets and doesn't give a rat's *** about their citizens, both in-state and out-of-state. Ok, I'm done ranting....for the time being!
  7. You will need to know the full bolt pattern specs to get the right rim. It will be something like a 5x4-1/2", 5x4-3/4", 5x5", etc. The spacing between every other bolt is the 2nd part of the spec. Being you have 14" rims, I would lean towards it being a 4-1/2" pattern, but best to measure to be safe. If you are upping the capacity of the axles, you may want to also consider upping to a 15" rim if the trailer fenders will accomodate them.
  8. NK or a Stinger NBK, Stinger Tuxedo or a Stinger Michael Jackson. The Michael Jackson did really well for us this year.
  9. Nice job & congrats to your daughter for making the board. Hope it holds up another week! What kind of temp were you getting at that depth?
  10. What about the Eagle Claws did you not like? WAY too soft, IMO, for a supposed dipsy rod; like the post above a lot of bend before the first eye., the pole just did not have enough backbone, IMO. We didn't like them for wire, we have a Eagle Claw on our lead and like it. We have also tried a 8'6" downrigger rod and hated it, used it once and went back to our old shakespeare alpha rod. Good info to have. I have (6) of the SF-401 rods (8'6") for downriggers and love them. Also have (2) leadcore set-ups using the same rod and couldn't be happier. All personal preferences, no right or wrong when choosing what works best for us. Which rod were you using for the dipsey? Do you remember the model number, by chance?
  11. What about the Eagle Claws did you not like?
  12. Ditto! I recently upgraded from 2 to 4 on the back of my Islander. So far this season, though, we've only been running 3. As Gambler mentioned, it is nice to have the 4th, just in case something goes wrong, as it did for us last weekend. Cable on an out/down got all tangled-up and it took a good 15-20 patient minutes (with an occassional grumble) to get it squared away. In the meantime, while we were untangling the cable, we put the 4th rigger down until we got the out/down repaired.
  13. There was only one ticket on board. Uh, what a bummer!!!
  14. And I toned it down considerably. Tom B. (LongLine) Well said, Tom, as always.
  15. Vote the ones that didn't sign out of office!!!!
  16. It's nice to know that despite that, we're still welcome on New York's Lake Ontario!
  17. That's where I got all my parts, as well. I had everything shipped out to me within a week.
  18. While we're on the topic of radio chatter, did anyone happen to be monitoring Channel 21 and 22 on Saturday, early afternoon? Sounds like there was a boat taking on water, which TowBoatUS went out to get, but then later, it sounded like a search operation on 21. I heard one boat say they recovered (2) people which jumped overboard. Anyone know what that was about? I saw on the news the boat that overturned in Oneida Lake, but this talk was too close to Oswego, as I was hearing majority of the transmissions on 21. I think Oneida would be too far away to hear anything going on down there.
  19. I used to monitor 68, but have since taken it out of scan and told people who don't already know to find me on 78 or one of the other channels used around Mexico Bay and Oswego. 68 has gotten completely out of hand and the things being said on there are not what a little kid trying to enjoy a day of fishing needs to hear. Just for giggles, I put it back in scan a few weeks ago, but had to take it out again within 30 minutes. Nobody needs to hear that garbage any day of the week, especially when you're on the lake trying to relax.
  20. I zoomed in on my house, and my boat isn't there and the trees don't have any leaves. Possibly an early spring or late fall picture?
  21. We were there as well, in our Islander. Only fish we boated were browns in that 75-85 ft flat between the Little Salmon, and the plant. Ventured down the shelf to get temp, and ended up in 180-190 ft. Holy smokes!! Wrong move. We were in 4-5'ers, occasionally busting over the winshield on the way back in to the Big Salmon at 6-7 mph. Semi-same scenario last Sunday. I think we are gonna' have to send an invitation to the Kings, to come over and play. Hope the wind is way less this coming weekend. We had some almost come over the bow of my Islander, as well, and I knew we were in some serious waves. We found 44-48 degrees in about 150fow down 80-85 straight out from the LSR. But, the waves forced us back in shallower. Days like that, I wish I had a 12,000lb boat. But, I'll keep my Islander. A-TOM-MIK was getting kings over by Oswego, I found out today. Wish I'd known that Saturday. Oh well. Try it again this weekend in the LOC.
  22. Awesome report, Bill. Mother Nature wasn't very friendly to us in Mexico Bay, either. By the time we set-up around 5:15am, the winds were already strarting to pick-up and by 9am, we had whitecaps and 3 footers. We stuck it out until about 1pm, trying all we had, but the winds and 4 footers were just too much to handle. But, awesome report and nice job, Jay!
  23. Ok, here we go again with some sneaky tactics. My neighbor at the lakehouse, who has been on top of the windfarm "project" since it first became public knowledge, provided me with some interesting information over the weekend. There was a very large vessel out in Mexico Bay recently, floating along from Sandy Pond to Nine Mile. He thought it was a USCG Cutter at first, but learned otherwise. Apparently, this particular boat was refurbished using government stimulus monies and was outfitted with some high-power side imaging cameras. He did some more research and came to the conclusion that this boat may have been out there taking pictures of the sediment and bottom structure of the lake. Hmmm, windfarm studies??? Checking to see what the lake bottom is made of??? He couldn't provide too much information, but isn't giving up and will let me know when he finds out more. Looks like someone is trying to sneak around behind our backs and do this pinwheel research and studies without anyone knowing.
  24. Interesting. I thought it was a little suspicious and a little too coincidental, what with all the windfarm talk going on, although it has quieted down. While trolling Saturday, I did happen to see a boat with 2 guys onboard poking around the outer-most buoy. The boat was a battleship grey center-console with absolutely NO markings on it. Not even a registration number. That alone got my suspicions up.
