  1. Thanks for the input guys. as far as ventilation: the floor is open at the front. Railing: I'm building a removable railing that goes all the way around the transom from the rocket launcher which will also make going up to deploy and haul the anchor. As far as the rollin goes I have this to say: 1. Boats roll, it's what keeps them from tipping over. 2. In an tin can boat you get used to everything going every which way every time somebody moves 3. uh, I forgot what I was going to say... Anyway, this mod cost me about a hundred bucks & pretty sure the rate of return on it is going to be off the charts.
  2. Got something that I think I can live with.
  3. Can no longer abide by the I/O doghouse in the back of my Islander. 40+ fish days with 45 lbers mixed in on the Hudson these past 2 months have convinced me I need something different for a boat but I do really like my marriage, so until I'm actually making $ while fishing I need to come up with something. I'm going to True Value right now and getting a sheet of 3/4 marine plywood. Plan to cover the whole I/O and back deck area with roughly 1/2 a sheet, making the back fishing deck 1 level. Because the air cleaner/valve cover/pulley do stick up about 8" above the rest of the motor I'm going to create a steppped up area 8" taller than the rest of this new deck that will cover those components. A small set of steps immediately accessible from between the twin swivel seats in the canvas wheel house will provide easy access to this new mostly flat fishing area. My goal will be to make this a more or less a single piece unit that can go in or out using our skid steer or tractor loader. Anybody who has any experience with anything like this, or anybody with any ideas along this line at all, chime in please. I'll post some pictures that should, if nothing else, provide for some good laughs.
  4. Gave it a good go yesterday but came up empty handed. Not much colored water but even where it was I couldn't make it happen. Temps 46.1 to 47.2. Ran the beach out to 40', speeds 1.6 up to 2.4. Talked to a couple other guys pulling out and they had a similar day. Gorgeous day out there with my youngest though, listened to some good music and got the new kicker figured out.
  5. Maxwell water temps were 41 a month ago which shows you what's going on. Planning to get out, weather permitting, this weekend.
  6. I did not have great luck with the Rockets, tried the scents, etc but just didn't work like the strips.
  7. I used 2 setups like this for several years. I modified my slide divers by removing the bottoms and replaced them with Mag dipsy bottoms (heavier weight) that way they would have the same dive curve as a Mag dipsy. I used them with the plastic tube instead of splicing in mono. They worked great but it's a lot of stuff to maintain and I eventually went away from these rigs. I still use super braid slide divers on 3 when I want to run a 2cnd set of high divers or just to target shy fish.
  8. I never had the pleasure of meeting this man but they say that the greatest compliment you can give to a person is the praise of their friends. Rest in peace.
  9. EXACTLY, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
  10. I'm looking for information on possible boat parking rental opportunities at or around Oak Orchard. Thanks!
  11. Agree with Glen, don't you keep a sharp knife around? In all seriousness though I can run 3 or 4 per side without that much board line out. The more line you let out the harder it is to run the clips down the line anyway.
  12. A little dicey launching/hauling out without the docks. Found browns in the warmer water 43+ on bright stix @2.2 in 6-8 fow. Fish seemed scattered. Color varied from chocolate to a nice green but not much of the latter, plenty of the former! Watch the Starboard side coming back in to the chute, there's quite a build up near the wall. No discernible gut contents in fish we kept. P.S. Wife enjoyed the peace and quiet
  13. I bought the 6 with 20lb. These reels are in excellent shape, been through Tuna's, with really good line on them. This is a killer deal.
  14. Doesn't look like an outboard?
  15. Although they eat good, the eyes aren't going to test your tackle real hard. I love my $23 Eagleclaw 7'6" SF 400 ml rods for spring browns, walleyes, and Flx fishing on the riggers and planners. They work pretty decent with snap weights off the boards too. They are a little too wambly for core and inlines.
  16. An interesting read for sure. No simple answers is the take home I got.
  17. My browns/walleye rods (Eagle Claw Starfire 7' 6" Lites) have Daiwa 17 or 27s spooled with 6# Maxi. When things are really tough I'll albright to 6 FC leader but it's pretty rare. The average spring kings I run into can be handled on these rigs (if you are prudent). At the end of the flat line deal I usually run a pair of 47s spooled with 20lb Maxi on Okuma Blue Diamond ML rigger rods for my flat lines because that's when an occasional brute will be in the mix. These are my summertime spoon rigger rods as well.
  18. I thought I stumbled onto 'Salmon Crazy' for a minute...
  19. Well spring is here. Hopefully the next outing will be out of Port Bay and if not at least the lil boat is there in the capable hands of Hank at L&M.
