I did a lot of research on this issue. Remington knew about it a bit after introducing that model in the late 1940s. The origional designer wanted to change it but was overruled because it would cost 50 cents per rifle to fix. They have always fought it but lost a few court cases in the 90s after fatalities. Now they are repairing them. The first change/ repair didn't go well because there could be extra epoxy used in a certain area causing a similar issue. The origional issue was caused by a poor fit that would cause the trigger to slip if there was a certain amount of debris or slight wear present. All 700s from inception until those manufactured just a few years ago after the epoxy fix should be considered suspect.Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

It is hard to follow the time line. They made a fix in the early 2000s but that has been recalled for additional problems. The bottom line is every 700 since 1948 when it was first manufactured until the first fix, potentially has the origional problem. I took mine back to the store in 1968 when I was 15. Of course, I wouldn't do that today. This has been a well publicized.problem but just trying to be sure everyone knows about it. As I mentioned, I have personally experienced it 2x. I also have another 700 which was my father's originally and that one has never done it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Anyone who has a Remington Model 700 rifle in any variation should be aware of the potential FATAL flaw in the safety mechanism. The older versions can discharge by simply moving the safety to the firing position without pulling the trigger. I have one that has done this TWICE in the last 48 years. I bought this rifle at age 15 in 1968 and on its first target firing it discharged without the trigger. I returned it to the sporting goods store where it was purchased and the store owner said he would "adjust it" ?? Seemed OK after that for about 30 years until it happened again while preparing to unload at the end of a day of hunting. Luckily it was pointed at the ground this time. I do not use it anymore. Remington will repair them now after decades of litigation and fatalities. If anyone has a 700, DO NOT have it pointed at anything you may not want to shoot when moving the safety. If in need of repair check out the situation online for return info. Some refer to this as a "Remington Moment".

Here is why I really love Obama And Hillary, the cold hard facts. I am self employed and before Obamacare had paid about $300/month for a healthcare policy that fit my needs perfectly. Soon after my policy was deleted and I was forced Into an ObamaCare policy. Its cost increased steadily. I never received my $2500 reduction and I never was able to keep my Doctor as the Liar In Chief promised. I have just recieved a notice that my cost starting Jan 1 will be $981 per month. I do not qualify any subsidy because I make just over the limit. However, I am eternially grateful that I have pregnancy coverage and drug and alcohol abuse coverage which I do not need. Lest I forget Mental problem coverage also. Since I am a 63 year old male, I am so grateful to the Democrats for my pregnancy coverage.

A friend of mine had a 2001 40 hp 4 stroke. 3 cylinder. 3 carbs. Was a Yammy powerhead. Carb problems were constant. Finally had to get rid of it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I know low HP Mercury's were made by Yamaha in the late 90's and early 2000's. I believe they are not anymore. Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I put a Yamaha F70LA on my Sea Nymph GLS 175 about two years ago. It weighs 257 lbs. Is the lightest engine in that range, 2 or 4 stroke. Running gauges from my Lowrance HDS touch. Boat previously had a 115 Johnson. It was a rocket but just got tired of the smoke, hard starting and fuel consumption. The Yammy runs all day on fumes. Fuel consumption according to the Lowrance is 9-10 mpg at best cruise about 4000 rpm. Probably get a about 20 mpg trolling. Also hooked into the troll control with a switch. Can go up or down in 50 rpm increments from 600 to 0 1200 rpm. No more carburetors for me. EFI all the way. Touch the key and it runs. Sent from my SM-G920V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

If you plan to interface to your motor or other devices and possibly get the Lowrance autopilot in the future, the HDS gen2 or 3 is the best choice. I have mine displaying all engine functions on the screen and plan to soon get autopilot and hydraulic steering. Need a later model outboard that is nema 2000 compatible to do this. Really nice. If you know the serial # of the Honda, you should post it and all members can keep an eye out. It may be noticed somewhere.

Cannon Digi-Troll 2 downrigger, are they any good?
lrg355 replied to Todd in NY's topic in This Old Boat
I have 4 of them I bought used about 12 years ago. $900 for all from someone that thought they were too complicated. Run well. Had one display go last year. I like the fact that I can progam the depth and let it run down while I am doing something else. They also have the timed up and down cycling within a set distance like 10 ft or so. use it sometimes but never really noticed a improvement in releases. Retrieve is auto stop but it is not a short stop that detects disconnect of cable from water, it is an actual count up of pulley rotation. -
First outing of the year.
