  1. last year I bought a new Yamaha T9.9XPA , 25 shaft electric all remote from Towne Marine in Bloomsburg Pa for $2700. Was the best price I found anywhere. Kevin at Towne Marine will deal. May pay to buy new.
  2. I had a Bennett cylinder go bad after 2yrs use. Sent it back and got a new one for free. If it is out of warranty, I know they are about 80-100 bucks for the plastic ones. Most marine supply companies have em
  3. You need a blind fastener that resembles a rivet but is collapsed by tightening with a screw in the fastener then tightening further with a nut on the screw. The military uses these on portable buildings. Often referred to as "Spec Nuts" or "Riv Nuts". Supply companies such as Mc Master Carr would have them. You can use a credit card to buy from them. Simply drill the proper size hole, push it in, and collapse the rear by tightening a screw and nut in it. Be sure to order the correct size for the thickness of material you are in. you can also put a another plate on top for extra support if the material is thin. I use em frequently, but I have a special tool to collapse the back. The proper size screw and a nut will suffice.
  4. I read the info on the Amsoil marine. It sounds very good and has the zinc and other additives for wear. I just bought a new Yamaha F70 for my smaller Alum boat and I will probably try it.
  5. Also, the W in 10w-30 stands for Winter. It is the viscosity at 0 degrees F. The second number (30) is the viscosity at 210 degrees F. Plenty of additives to make that happen.
  6. I have looked into oils as part of my job. The major manufacturers of marine engines usually recommend straight weight oil such as SAE 30. This is because the multi viscosity oil like 10w-30 is loaded with additives to make it act like a 10w oil in cold weather and 30w in warm weather. the problem with that is the additives are the major cause of "sludge" we all see in the engine. Since a auto engine converted to marine use usually is only run in temps well above freezing, there is theoretically no need for additive loaded multi-viscosity oil. I just wish someone would make a single weight, readily available synthetic.
  7. I am at the entrance to the bay where Skinner and Linsey creek converge. A few of us there leave our docks in all year. Nobody in that area has any damage. I don't have any info from your area.
  8. Went to the camp on Sandy Pond yesterday to check it out. Sandy pond completely frozen, no access to the lake. Mexico Launch: Little Salmon river is open to the lake. State launch is blocked at the entrance gate with a large pile of snow plowed there. Exit gate is open and it is possible to get in that way. No docks in but ramp if free of ice. Small ice floating down river and on the lake. Looked like nice colored water. Docks around Mikes marina have about a foot of ice, it will be a week or two before any boats are able to be put in there. Len
  9. I have been trying to get on the R & R website for some time but it appears to not be operational. Is anyone else having this result ??
  10. Tenatively sold. Will keep all in mind if deal does not materialize Sent from my SM-G730V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Where is Al Gore and Global warming (oops-climate change) when you need em. I would bet if we got Al to make a speech in Oswego, all the hot air would melt the ice immediately. Anyone want to contribute for his speaking fee ???
  12. 1993 Johnson 2 Stroke complete with all cables, controller, wiring and oil injection system. Everything necessary to install. Runs well. Currently on a Sea Nymph 175 GLS. Is a "rocket with head snapping acceleration" on this 875 lb boat. I am turning this boat into a back up fishing rig with a smaller 4 stroke for trolling. Boat currently in storage at Sandy Pond. If the ice ever melts, It can be tested on Sandy Pond for interested parties before removal from the boat. Estimated time second or third week of April. No pics available at this time as I am in Pa. NEVER in salt water $1500
  13. If you press on the microswitch on the linkage and the engine stumbles its worrking Sent from my SM-G730V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. John: The coil is not that expensive and the old ones do get tired. Best results are with the Flamethrower. Buy the setup on line for the best price. 4.3 V6 Chevy engine with a Prestolite distributor was my setup. My newest boat is a 2001 Sportcraft 272 inboard and last year I broke down in Mexico Bay , turned out to be the coil. If you have an late 80's or early 90's OMC Cobra, the shift interrupt switch setup will not work with the Pertronix setup. The shift interruptor circuit is most likely burned out as they were junk anyway. There is a circuit you can easily build to keep it if it is still working, you can find the info on line. In my case, I just turned the idle down a bit and all was good. I did the Pertronix on 2 late 80's V6 Cobras the same way and had no problems. Both are sold now.
  15. Moeller Marine cushion set #TC10000-2D white
  16. I had an 89 OMC Cobra with points. Installed a Pertronix Ignitor and a Pertronix Flametrower coil. Excellent results.
  17. I have an Raymarine ST5000 (hydraulic) on a 27 Sportcraft. it is a inboard with a cylinder turning the rudder. It really would not matter what the cylinder turns, rudder, I/O or outboard. The system uses another pump that takes over for the steering wheel pump when active. No noise but you must remember to turn it off before going to the steering wheel or you will wonder why the boat won't respond to the wheel. My previous 23' boat had the Raymarine mechanical under the steering wheel. It worked well but was noisy. By far, the choice would be hydraulic if you already have hydraulic steering.
  18. Last year I installed a new Yamaha T9.9XPA on a 27 Sportcraft (inboard). Motor is great. Paid $2800 from a dealer in Pa. Add about $275 for a Yamaha #703 controller. Bought cables online for about $100. Also hooked up a tach with hourmeter for $60. Tach is needed because it is so quiet it is hard to hear it running at idle. Hourmeter on tach is great for oil change info. I would not go any other way!
  19. I don't believe I had changed the hook. I talked to Dave at R&R and he said it looks like his from a while ago.
  20. I checked R&R and there is no equal. Their spoon have a more distinct line around the 6 sided "scale" from the die. This is a spoon I bought many years ago and never used. Put in on in 2012 and it was very active. It was a magnum size. The one in the pic was a size such as a NK28 that was given to me by a friend who is a charter Capt. He didn't know the name either.
  21. Does anyone know what this spoon is? I had good luck with it in 2012, lost it beginning of 2013 and have not been able to positively identify it.
  22. Next year I will CONTRIBUTE a few to your cause.
