Using a 6 color, an 8 color lead core and a rigger at 30 feet. Right out of the bay going east into 30 feet of water the first hit came and it never stopped . I had 3 doubles and 2 triples ,all of them cookie cutter 4 pounders except for the one that broke my 8 pound leader at first touch and another 8 pounder that I caught later. In the middle of what definitely was the best brown trout fishing trip I ever had, a big laker hit the lure on the down rigger and he gave as good of a fight as the eight pound brown. When they hit high up in the water they give a very good fight. Glen do you remember the brown trout lure we used while pre-fishing the Pro-Am at Sodus Point? We bought every last one in the tackle store so nobody could get a hold of them. That one did all the damage,and as the paint got ripped off the lures, it only got better. I will have to buy a few more of those. It was very amazing that my boat was the only one on the lake,one would think that everybody would be out for one last hurray All in all a fantastic day on the lake. Cornelis. ====================

I used to hunt wild boar with my Weimeraner. They are very patient and disciplined,while (at least mine)being very sweet and gentle with the kids. As for retrieving a bird or rabbit, there are much better choices out there. Cornelis.

This may or may not help you,but it shows how little things can really make a difference. My 9.5 kicker caused me a lot of trouble this summer.It turned out to be a broken bolt on the head that slightly warped the head and caused the head gasket to blow. This was easily figured out and repaired. I figured that I might as well service the entire thing and replaced the plugs,condensers and points. Back on the water it did run but very rough,irregular and it smoked. I checked the link and sync and cleaned the carburetor but that did not help,so the flywheel came off again and the points were readjusted. At this point I found out was the problem was. The screw on top of one of the point brackets that holds the connections from the condenser and the coil was loose and this caused the lower cylinder to get irregular and poor spark. As a result of this, it was hard to start the engine and it smoked like a fiend. While on the water it used a lot of gas because part of the time it ran on one cylinder. As the engine warmed up it smoked less but I did not quite figure out why that was,although I have my suspicions The moral of the story is: Where there is smoke, there is unburnt fuel.When there is no ignition in one of the cylinders the fuel will come out as smoke. As the other cylinders warm up, they will burn better and the overall amount of smoke will be way less. In my case a simple tightening up a screw solved the problem,maybe your problem is of similar nature. Cornelis.

I hope that you all remember what General Electric did to the Hudson Valley. They got great tax breaks to move in then they poisoned the valley and the river with cancerous chemicals. People in the valley have a lot more cancer than most other people in the country and the entire river needs to be dragged to remove the poisons. After thirty years of poisoning the valley, General Electric moved out and abandoned the area.It was only through extended court action that they started paying up for some of their actions. I see no reason why the gas drilling companies would be any different. They will do whatever they can get away with.

Congrats on all the great fishing. It is very good news that the halibut is coming back. About 15 years ago the state of Maine tried to reintroduce them.It looks like they succeeded.

I have a few Penn Black Sabre wire rods with carboloid guides and tip. It does a very nice job for me. I don't have to deal with the extra weight and lack of balance that seems to a part of the roller rods. Maybe if Glen lets me touch his Dipsy Diver rods I will change my mind.

You just pointed out the big difference. In Cape Cod it is legal to gaff fish.

If you like that sort of attractors, you should look into umbrella rigs which are very popular in Cape Cod and used for stripers and blue fish. The umbrella rigs look like a small school of fish with a wounded one lagging behind. There is a tuna rig that has the attractors in a horizontal V shape again with one seemingly wounded fish behind the center attractor. In salt water these lures work great and as far as I can see they should do well in fresh water.

Most people in Brighton know your company for all the slurry sealing you do on our local roads and on the express ways. I was just trying to be funny. I am glad that some NY companies are making some money of the gas bonanza before drilling has even started around our own state.

What Glen says usually works. I have had some problems with the connections and the check valves on the fuel lines.The problem was that air would come into the system from one engine connection and it would cause the other engine to run very rough or stall. that is why I prefer a system with shut off valves so that there does not have to be a constant open connection between the 2 engines. Another possibility is a 2 or 3 way valve with a shut off valve that only allows one connection at a time to be open. Cornelis.

That setup is fine,remember you are not trying to break any speed records so there is little need for precision. You will definitely not have any cavitation problems with that kicker.

I have tried three different types over the past 2 years. Double cedar wooden boards These don't fold but if left unpainted they absorb water fast and they lay deep in the water thereby increasing the effectiveness. If you use wooden ones do not paint them because that will seal the wood and they will be higher up in the water. You can make them yourself or buy them of e-bay for $40 to $60. Riviera triple boards. Because of the way the riviera is designed you can use them on whatever side of the boat you want.The others are exclusively right or left. They are a bit too light and too high in the water for my taste. If you add a good amount of lead to the rear end and the middle of the outer board they become very hard pulling boards. Again, the trick is to get them to lay deep in the water so they have maximum contact with water which makes them pull harder. A set is $180 plus shipping Otter boats They lay very deep in the water and track very good,probably the best of the three that I tried. I have yet to see an otter board flip over in high waves.The 2 other types will do that and it is a terrible mess to deal with. In turns the otter boats perform best. a set is about $200. Overall in my experience the otter boat is the best. I tried to answer your other post,but there seems to be a hitch in the system,anyway, that setup is fine. Cornelis.
