    It is only bolted on if it is the original one. When you remove the old engine, it will give you a chance to check the wood that is inside the lengthwise aluminum stringers. It will help you very much if you first remove the engine in addition to the gear box. In addition , I very much suggest that you use a cherry picker with chain or straps going to the far port and starboard ends of the transom with big eye bolts screwed in the top of the transom. That way, you can keep the pulling pressure up while nudging the edges up and out

    I only fish the lake, I would not know where to start in a trib. But I do know of two ways to improve the trib fishing. First would be removal of barbs when fishing catch and release and second is to stop showing pictures or writing reports or just write negative ones.     The real reason for the exceptional high water is the huge amount of rainfall that fell in the upper great lakes area over the last few years. It takes about 2 years for that water to travel from lake Superior all the way down down to Lake Ontario. It will take another one or two years for that water to make it here, so the high levels will stay with us for another one or two years even with the maximum possible water allowed to go out. Commercial interest may have something to do with it but not very much. The main culprit is the weather that the North West of the USA has seen in the last few years and the time it takes for that incredible amount of water to make it here. Can you recognize climate change when you see it? We are in the middle of it and chances are that it will get worse. My suggestion is to get rid of lake property before the lake will get rid of it.

    That is true until the one time that you forget to raise it before you take off and you subsequently ruin it. I think that a 16 footer that trolls should have a little kicker,not bags or trollplates

    It depends on the distance between the battery and the starter and if you have a solenoid in the system. A 9.9 starter does not draw a lot of power, so 4 or 6 gauge is probably overdoing it a lot, but your best information is available in the service manual of your specific model. I would google up the service manual of the specific model and check out the specs. There are other things to consider as well like what sort of wire, single or multi stranded. Multi stranded is a lot more flexible. Anyway, according to Mercury, for outboards from 6 to 10 hp ,a maximum 9 foot length needs 8 gauge and 4 to 5 feet works with 10 gauge. 10 foot would be 6 gauge.

    The guy at Fish307 told me that the motor on the mag 15 is very powerful and very often if you try to stop it by pushing down on the button for just a split second you will not have stopped the momentum and the motor will come right back on the moment you release the button and it will continue going up. His advice is to hold the the button down for the time that it will take you to say "one two" fairly quick (half a second?). that should stop the motor without starting it downward again. He also told me not to use a dedicated battery because a closed circuit away from the boat engine /ground will neutralize the positive ion stop.

    A few years ago, I purchased a set of Mag 15 downriggers on e-bay which according to the seller had been refurbished. I have been using them ever since,but there is this strange thing that happens to both the riggers. When I try to adjust depth by raising the rigger a few feet, They just keep on coming up and the only way to stop this is by switching to down again. There does not seem to be any way to stop the rigger from going up except by switching it to going down and then stopping it. Is this the case with all mag 15s or do I have a circuit board problem? Thank you for any help or advice you can offer. Cornelis
