  1. Catching strippers in federal waters is illegal. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime my wife is fighting to keep the laser lab open at the U of R. Higgs Boson is neither in my pay grade nor in my brain grade. If I am not mistaken, the Higgs Boson particle (the God particle) was observed in the accelerator in Europe last year, but it is not known so far if it is a form of energy that might be harnessed. I would put my bets on cold fusion , but that has been thirty years away for the past forty years, although significant progress has been made in the last few years. It seems that we are stuck with the more earthly forms of energy such as wind and sun for the near future.
  3. There is a big wind farm off Block Island in state waters of Rhode Island that is working and on January 25 2017 A huge wind farm project was approved in the Atlantic off Long Island and all the way north until 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard. Technology has made great strides and attitudes have changed.
  4. Environment as in skyline is often a local concern. The environment in the Appalachians has been destroyed by strip mining along with black long disease and acid rain. Gas drilling is destroying the water resources in Pennsylvania and causing thousands of small to medium earthquakes daily in Kentucky and Texas. Soon seismic sounding in the Atlantic will do great damage to the marine environment. That is just a small list out of many more. We all want our energy to be cheap and plentiful. On the Canadian side north of Gallo Island there is Wolves Island with many hundreds of windmills, but I read very little about protests there. Having windmills on Gallo Island is not pretty, but the energy produced there may save a mountain top in Virginia from being blown up or a few cases of deadly black long because of mining . Or slow down the acidification of our Adirondacks Lakes. So yes, environmental protection with the Windmills is a must, but so are the windmills. We are all on the same page in wanting the best for our lakes, so maybe we can try to work together by trying to find ways to get the best forward looking solution instead of stubbornly fighting a battle that we lost already.
  5. Close to shore, browns would mostly feed on gobies. Gobies do not have an air bladder so they usually lay on the bottom and in order to propel themselves they swim upward and then forward while sinking back to the bottom. I would use gobies, casting them as far as possible with a big sliding bobber on the line. Then I would cast and jig while slowly retrieving. I do not know if it still illegal to use gobies for bait. Another way to go is casting very small bait such as spikes or small worms and catch small baitfish that way. Then you can use these fish for bait
  6. If you can handle the weight of the engine , then by all means stash it in the boat or the truck. If your 16 footer is aluminum ,the weight of the engine on the transom may be so much ,that you will have to move the wheels farther back to keep enough weight on the hitch (minimal 80 pounds). It is bad karma to have a trailer that does not ride straight and gets jumpy. I am not sure though that you can store a 4 stroke horizontal, the oil may come dripping out. I am sure that other people on this board do know the answer to that one.

  8. I don't recall a show there last year. I do know that the bass pro shop is just down the road in Auburn.
  9. Semperfi fishing on the "hulltruth.com" website
  10. A funny thing happened last week. We finally have a president who is willing to trample the second amendment. In his own words , the president said that he is willing to first take the guns away and talk about it later. And you what is really funny? All you second amendment promoting guys who voted republican voted for this guy who may take your guns away.
  11. I have a Michigan stinger in a yellow vinyl cover $30
  12. I was going to sign up, but seeing what I am up against now, I might reconsider that rash decision.
  13. Last year, the St. Lawrence farther down stream from Lake Ontario was extremely high. This caused the decision to limit the outflow from the lake in order to prevent flooding along the St. Lawrence. We do not have that situation this year and it is probably safe to expect a much higher outflow this year compared to last year.
  14. I have 2 fishfinders with the same frequency on my rig. One is aimed a bit forward and the other straight down Unless I am in 300 feet of water they do not interfere. When over 300 I use the narrow beam on both and they will work just fine.
  15. Looks great! I am just about green with envy. Please do leave some of those beauties for the rest of us and please do post that you caught them 5 miles off shore in your secret honey hole Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Good morning to all. I am looking at replacing my 2 stroke 9.9 Johnson kicker. One of the options is an 80 pound thrust 24 volt lower unit mounted minn kota (it is so quiet) Does anyone have any experience with this setup? How fast and how long will it push a 19 foot islander with a 2500 pound overall weight? Thank you for any info you may have. Cornelis.
  17. And so the 17 kids who were murdered are forgotten and replaced by another rant about gun rights. As for Belyaev, he killed all the foxes that did not conform. and the little antisemetic sharia rant becomes understandable when Belyaev is mentioned. As for me, Belayaev makes me think of Dr. Mengele.
  18. I have rollers and 8 foot long side boards on my trailer The rollers give wider support than the bunks and the rolling action makes it easier to load the boat back on. As for centering, my Islander still gets blown around. So when it is windy I make sure that the trailer is not too deep. The bad part of rollers is that you must keep the boat chained up while backing down the ramp because it may roll off while backing into the water.
  19. It is probably the most crucial test to run, because low compression often translates into having to rebuild the engine, which on a big inboard can easily cost thousands of dollars.
  20. This spring I'll launch in Sandy and bring a few six packs.
  21. I guess it is time we sit down and have a beer together.
  22. Good question. What has changed is the invention of the internet. It has given everybody the possibility to express their thoughts and feelings to the entire world without any checks and balances no matter how extreme they are. There are plenty of weird websites that glorify racism ,hatred and extremism. Kids and grownups can sit in their room in front of a computer and absorb all of that without ever having to hear a modifying opinion or any other opinion for that matter. Our own children can be radicalized online without us ever knowing about it. It is a scary brave new world where extreme opinions are rampant and unchecked and where our own president declares whatever he does not like to hear to be "fake news". That is what has changed.
