  1. I have a Mustang flotation suit. It's a little bulky. But it is warm. I use it for ice fishing, also. http://mustangsurvival.com/products/pro ... d=547&mc=6
  2. Maybe I should have put "none of the above". I bet that would have more votes.
  3. On the advice of MB I resubmitted the poll. No need to go to my blog to vote. But please vote.
  4. The worse time for ice in the lower river is when it is very cold. (except, of course when the ice bridge below the falls brakes up or when the ice boom is taken out. Both will happen in the spring) Something like 15 deg and lower for 2- 3 days and the river starts to "make" ice. Add to that a west wind and it will push all the ice to the American side of the river. That's why it's always best to have a Canadian license. In the winter the main target is steelhead but you can also get brown trout and lakers and sometimes walleye. Sometimes all the same day. Of course, sometimes zip.
  5. With the on going problems in NY state. With Pete Grannis, the DEC commissioner being fired.(for good or bad) And the possibility of layoffs of more than 200 agency employees. And the possibility fish hatcheries closing. And the on going issue of the wind turbines in lake Ontario. And license increases. And more. I thought now would be the right time to run a poll on who would be best for governor. EDIT: - mb
  6. Lewiston will have a sand/salt pile by the launch. They also do a good job of keeping the launch plowed in the winter. Assuming you have an outboard, all I do in the winter once I have the boat on the trailer (and the motor tilted down)is crank it over for about 2 seconds. That is enough to "squeegee" the water pump. Be sure your lower unit doesn't leak.
  7. Maybe it has to be tuned better. They are very fussy. The Kwikfish Xtreme is made for trolling. The regular Kwikfish and Flatfish are better for drifting.
  8. Don't know about Lewiston. But a few at Olcott piers. And I bet at Wilson also. You may want to give them a try. Casting spoons or using eggs.
  9. Tony, It depends on the lake temperatures. A few weeks ago the lake turned over. The inshore temps were in the 55-60. And catching fish at 100 fow. This past week the inshore temp was 71. And catching fish at 400 fow. Check the video.http://wnyoutdoors.blogspot.com/2010/08/salmon.html
  10. I still can't believe you guys haven't tracked this guy down. Just ask him, politely, to stop.
  11. I ran core and dipsys 20+ years ago. Before I had line counter reels and Power Pro. I also ran solid glass rods with them. Worked great. The good old days.
  12. I'm not fishing Oswego, but the guy may not be on the water. He could be at home. Maybe someone should have a directional antenna. You find him and "talk" to him. If you know what I mean.
  13. I think it is legal. Give it a try.
  14. Not to take business from anyone, but you can make it yourself. Just use 3/8 aluminum rod and bend it. Just a thought.
  15. As I said earlier, I don't use them but do recommend them. I have other Ugly stick's for casting and drifting. Work great. The only reason I don't use them is because I have too many other downrigger /trolling rods already. But If I could sell a few, I would use them.
  16. I have not used the 7 footers for downriggers. But was told by a few people that this would be the one to get: Ugly Stik, 7' (2 piece) BWD 1101.
  17. Yes, it is a nice lake. Also, it does hold some walleye. I have not been there in years. http://wnyoutdoors.blogspot.com/
  18. Three rods per person? That means if I have three people on my 18 ft boat I can run 9 rods. That means I have to buy more rods/reels/line and lures. And, No, my friends don't have any trolling equipment. I think I'll stay with two rods per person. Now I can picture a 30ft charter boat with six people and 18 rods in the water. No thanks, not for me.
  19. The Niagara Bar runs about 3-4 miles ether side of the Niagara river and out (past the red can) about 4 miles before it starts dropping off into deep water.
  20. I sent my 332C in for repair last month at a cost of $195 +s/h. It was 2-3 years out of warranty. They sent me a new unit. Works great. No complaints from me.
  21. This is your tax money at work. http://wnyoutdoors.blogspot.com/
  22. Jig, white or chartreuse depending on water, 1 1/2 oz 3/0 hook and a 4-5" white/? twister tail.
  23. If the state was really interested in saving lives they would make PFD's mandatory during the warm water season, when 80% of the drownings occur. That said, I put my Mustang flotation suit on any time the water is colder than 50 deg. Just about the same time the law does. Not only does it float it's very warm. http://www.mustangsurvival.com/products ... 287&mc=109
