  1. I watched a professional walleye tournament and I forget the guys name he is Asian and they were fishing the Detroit river and he won using something close to what the guy on the Black River was using, most others were back trolling or jigging in the slack waters. Some were using rattle traps but most were using large swim baits. I finally remember his name Gary Yackamoto or something like that, he won by a land slide hand lining 6-9#ers it was a sight. I thought it was really neat to see him in action!! I know another guy who hand lines wire line on one of the finger lake, his dad taught him the technique and he tried to show me but man can I make a mess in a hurry, so I volunteered to run the boat, but Mike and his dad were doing a fine job on the lakers, not to much on the length of the fish but lots of them. I find these techniques interesting and I'm always game to try something different, maybe something they haven't seen in a while, or maybe never saw before.

I have done the same Kevin, also on a sw blow don't forget about the rocks from the tip of Stony out in 35 to 25ft with the board over the rocks with shallow divers, all the way up in between Galloo and a lime stone sucken island. Stay close to the island 30-40ft water as there is a snag around 15-20ft down closer to the sucken island continue till your up to the northern tip of Galloo. I have had some extremely good fishing in there, the best sm bass catching I ever experienced in my life. 4#+ over 100 fish we caught one day out there, with a nice mix bag of eyes. This is my go to when all else fails. Plus you have the cliffs right there also.
  3. There is a old fellow that hand line trolls for walleye on the Black River and he is good at it I might add. I talked to him last year for a while, ang he told me he uses a fly rod reel, you just have to pull up on a little lever and it auto reels the slack line up. He uses a 3# DR. Ball on 30# power pro for the down line and a 8ft piece of fluro up about 16" and either a spoon or a crawler harness and he just bounces the ball off the bottom using the fly rod reel to keep the slack line out from under his feet, my dad and I watched this guy in action and it was really cool to see him in operation. We were back trolling up the river and he was catching walleye in our slack water. It is a true art to witness and watch this guy in action. His old 14ft aluminum and chain stringer hanging in the water with some dandy walleye on it. I thought he was amazing to watch!! It's a shame that these old theories and ways will soon be lost. Oh and he told me you need a set of leather batters gloves if don't want blisters on your hands.
  4. Now that's what I call a happy fisherman, thanks for taking the young lad for a excellent fishing trip. I'd be willing to bet that story will be told to many of his buddies!!!!!
  5. Great to see the kids having a great time, they are our future, so lets keep them interested in the game. My twin daughters can't wait to get on the water, and they 9. Congrats on your trip and giving the kids an excellent time!!
  6. quote name="justtracytrolling" post="293942" timestamp="1402111360"] While I was fixing the boat it was real quiet and when she started up I could faintly hear the eyes crying! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app They are running scared, thinking which one of the tasty minnows is real and which one is JT's F or J 13 hmmm decisions, decisions!!!
  7. Awsome, that will be something the guys will talk about for a long time. The fish are an added bonus, I say that because when you have great commodore and have a good buddy in your back pocket that you can call at any given hour for a rescue tow, make for a story that will last a life time. Congrats to the guys and the fishing. Oh was this still a problem from the $hitty fuel you got?? Go gettem JT you are blessed to have a lake like Otisco to fish. Keep up the reports and pics. Thanks for sharing PAP.
  8. Excellent post, lots of places to fish so little time!!
  9. Yea, that's the best tool to have in the boat!! I had so much over heating troubles I bought a infer red gun, and I still don't believe my gauge, and its a new one. I still pull the motor cover back and shoot my exhaust sleeve, rubber that goes between the riser and the exhaust pipe, which reads 137 degrees and my exhaust manifolds read 125, along with the heads, yea I'm paranoid, but its a piece of mind, before they got so hot you could smell the rubber, temps around 190* good grief, but all is well now, but I still shoot my engine after a long haul JUST to make sure. I haven't used the boat enough to build my confidence yet. I'm glad your was a easy fix.
  10. On an average at 2plus mph = 5ft for every color hope this helps, so 7x5 should be around the 35-37 ft mark. I use the 5 foot for every color and its darn close as I have bumped up in 37ft running 1.9 with a 7 color core out. I guess I can't type as fast as others, yea what the others said LOL PAP
  11. Yea, after watching River Monsters, I really never knew the havoc they play on the whole Eco- system, I say kill them all!!
  12. Obama doesn't want you to be able to purchase bulk ammo, doesn't matter what cal. Or gauge. Period !!
  13. Ok Thanks, makes sense, I have 20# floro.
  14. What do you use for line between flasher/ fly or dodger/ spoon?
  15. I use the 30# sea flea from Blood Run, I heard that they are coming out with a 20# line of sea flea, I hate the FAT line. I normally use 30# power pro which is 8 # diameter and for walleye run 8 # Fluor leader and for everything else 12# fluro, knock on wood I haven't had to much trouble with the fleas, Oh I use a size 8 Spro swivel so everything winds right up into the eyelets and the reel guides, I also by dumb luck found that size 7 Spro swivels will work also, so I think I will use these for my salmon rods, they are rated for 75# as the 8's are rated at 50# which is plenty strong enough, but I grabbed a bag of size 7's by mistake. Good luck to all, be safe and tight lines to all also PAP
  16. I have a old Evinrude 15 hp kicker, does the same thing I pulled the lower unit down replaced the water pump the O rings and the O ring that goes around the copper pipe into the motor, and when I replaced the O ring on the copper pipe it must have slid off and I had the same thing going on as you have, so I called Henry down at Beltzville Manner Marine and he asked if I replaced the heavy O ring in the copper pipe and I replied yes. He said to come down and he would give me a heavier in the thickness one so I pulled it a part again and I couldn't find the other "new" one so I put the heavier one on and no more oil leaks out the weep holes anymore, a little out the exhaust and its not the seal I replaced that one also, my motor is a 78 and that little oil is unburned oil/ gas mixture. It's only a little puddle about the size of a $.50 piece.
  17. When I come up for a week at a time I fish 3 sometime 4 different bodies of water, I always pull the drain plug and pull off the weeds, so what more am I supposed to do? Should I carry a spray bottle of simple green or a light mixture of bleach water, and just where are we supposed to do this, when 3 guys stand there huffing and puffing because its taking more than a minute to get the boat on the trailer? Who is going to be the referee when the fists start flying at the launches because from what I gather this needs to be done at the launch, does this mean in the parking area or in Shute area?
  18. I own a 1982 350 mrec. And 650 rpm at 30 plus with sae 30 oil and barely move the temp gauge, I had every issue you could imagine with over heating, first I would check your risers, after the checking the ball thing, mine doesn't have that, but a lot of trouble can occure in the riser, I was told to take them off and inspect the area where the water dumps out the bottom, if you flip them over there is I slit make sure that is open along with the other ports, use a coat hanger to loosen the rust and slag that gets hung up in the ports, then blow them out with air compressure. Another problem I had was the exhaust shutters, mine rusted off and lodged in the y pipe but I doubt that's your issue, I'd check out your risers first.
  19. That sounds like a plan, I hope they solve all your problems so you can get back out on the lake with a good peice of mind.
  20. Rebuilding the carb. sounds and appears scary, but if you have any mechanical ability you can do it yourself. A very clean area is a must!! I personally think you have a bad batch of fuel, and the above post is dead on by saying run that fuel out first, then if there is no improvement I would look into the carb,
  21. Wow that is a dandy nice catch, and awsome release!!!
  22. That's right JT. This will be a big learning curve for everyone, like for instance, I could show my girls how to cast, but they couldn't duplicate what I was doing but after awhile I had to be careful or they will outdo me. Another instance took my father in law along the other night to drive the boat so I could spend time with my uncles back at the riggers and the boards to show them some pointers also, well after 50 years behind the wheel and owning tri axel trucks we come to the conclusion he AIN'T no boat operator, he said jokingly there's no lines out here!! So it's tuff if everybody isn't on the same page and 1 person can't do it all. My hat goes off to all the charter captains who do this day in and day out and under stand now why when they get a group of guys that are knowledgeable why they appreciate those days it's almost like a day off. You JT will figure it out as I believe you are a person that your brain is never at ease, you will have it figured out in no time. Good luck and tight lines to all. PAP.
  23. Way to go fellas, that's the report I've been waiting for, go get em boys, and congrats to your catches, keep the ball rolling JT!!! PAP.
