Spoons for sliders?
Firechief48 replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I very rarely put a spread out that doesn't include free sliders. I usually will stack spoons on separate rods above F/F and run free sliders on the spoon rods, usually Evil Eyes. I get my share of Kings taking the deep spoons and usually steelheads, browns or coho taking the sliders. -
Where to Launch Near Pulaski NY?
Firechief48 replied to parisfisherman's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I have 23' Baha and Mexico is your best bet, half way between 9 Mile and Big Salmon. Never a problem with launching, water is plenty deep and you can do 4 at a time (if lake goes down) with plenty of parking. Right now Pine Groove has more water but usually I wouldn't launch there with anything over 18'. I pulled out of the Light House Marina one year due to engine trouble, hopefully I'll never use that launch again. Good luck hopefully I'll be on the lake that time also. -
Wanted 6" ORANGE SPIN DOCTORS
Firechief48 replied to JAYRFRED's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
FishUSA has them -
It should work as soon as it's in the water. I had a problem with mine and it was the probe.

X2, snapping the rod will likely result in a lost dipsey

Mikes does do it, I've left mine there at times.

Usually I just run a 400 down the chute. If I put them on boards it's 300 and 400

Releasing salmon
Firechief48 replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
We have released them during the summer when they're still in their temp range. Once they start staging and move out of temp it is our opinion that the fight takes whatever they had left out of them and they won't make it. -
We fish mainly live herring on the flats but some guys do very well with chunk, only problem with chunk is catfish and eels also like it. Night crawlers may work but I think you would be fighting mostly catfish and eels again. Trolling with big stick baits on channel breaks or even in the channel will usually get you more fish but they lack in size compared to using bait.

I've only had the Eagle Claws and have no complaints.

We usually try to keep the fish directly at the back of the boat but if they go to the side so be it.When they are ready the person fighting the fish backs up and lifts the head up, netting head first. Never had a problem like this. Sk8man is 100% right about experience on the net, they know when the fish can be netted. One thing for sure is don't horse the fish, they tend to break line that way no matter what test.

I don't know how old it is but some of the older ones would open if a certain frequency was used in a 2 way radio. We had that happen a few times at our station which is on a busy state road until we figured it out.

FYI apparently Emperor Cuomo is at it again...

I think Marc is a great all around guy and a great candidate, I'm in a boardering county from where he's from. There's two problems I see, one he's realarively young considering and not many people know him other than his area and two as stated previously, Cuomo has the NYC area in his pocket and that's a lot of votes -
I put the Helix 7 on my boat this year and very happy. I opted not to get side scan though..

Yes sir. I'll be back up out of Mexico thur/fri. Give me a shout "Knot Hers" on 68
-
I believe they will try for them all but at the very least the popular ones for the area you're in. East end 68-72 but with scanning radios should be able to pick up any. CG will also broadcast bad weather. Keep eyes to the west, if it starts to look bad a quick check for radar on a smart phone will help also. Lady O can rear her ugly head real fast if she wants too.

I have only fished the east end and there are plenty of times when charter captains will issue bad weather approaching broadcasts even telling how much time before it should hit yet they are ignored. I would dare say it's the same on the entire length of the lake. They may not tell you their secrets of how and where they're fishing but they do look out for others safety and if they say it, believe it and quit.
