  1. I'm a little more daring haha my Scotty hand cranks don't really have a drag system at least nothing I've figured out yet I just pick flats that I have learned over time from when I used to run Seth green rigs that seem to be softer bottoms and go for it if I had a drag system I would definitely use it though. Biggest thing with bottom dragging these is watch your rod tip you'll notice it bounce up and down as it drags bottom. If it starts shaking in A weird pattern it won't hurt to check the rod. We get alot of smalls doing this so you wanna make sure your not wasting your time dragging around small fish
  2. Sometimes weekends it's hard to park a boat trailer. And not to mention allot of people target this lake with Car top boats. If you think it's bad now wait a week or 2 when it's full of guys fishing because bass season will be open plus pleasure boaters
  3. If your gonna do it that would be a great lake for Lakers. We just had a tourney over there we placed 5th in with 3 Lakers weighing a little over 23lbs so you figure almost an 8lb average. We released many as well. Landed over 16fish and we lost more than I care to say as well you can literally fish the entire lake in less than a day. You could find your best area and then fish it your next few days there. I would book quick for that campground if you were serious though July 4th is a tough time to get a camp at any state park and that one can be popular. Good luck though and tight lines. If you manage to camp there let me know. I would be willing to get together and fish or just have a cold one and introduce myself!
  4. We run anywhere from 1.5 to 2.4 with em depending on the day most of the time we fish em 1.6- 2.2. If your going to drag then its best to do it in an area where you know the depth stays consistent it's no fun running rigger balls into a ledge
  5. It has walleye as well here are all the species. Search pics of the park too you'd be impressed at it's beauty
  6. Anything you wanna do all game fish species but it's an amazing lake trout and rainbow lake! We are talking alot allot of 8lb range fish with many bigger taken often
  7. If your not afraid to tow your bout to the lake each morning and plan to fish Cayuga a few days already look into filmore Glen state park in Moravia. Heard it's a beautiful place to camp and your only like 5 minutes away from the south end of Owasco there and 20min to a half hour from Myers park on Cayuga. If it's gonna be windy fish Owasco cuz it's small and if you get board of it (you wont) Cayuga is right over the hill
  8. We like to put the spin n glows 24- 36inches behind the bells and put them 20ft behind or rigger balls and drag out balls right across the bottom
  9. You and me both john!
  10. Can't go wrong with camping at taughannok state park as long as your boat can make it under bridge even though you said you wanted to try other waters. Another option would be branchport state park on keuka or try to find a camp on Owasco even
  11. I agree as well. We have yet to target Lakers over there this year. Honestly have been kind of trying to stay of of them but we lost a fish that was 14 easy at back of boat a few weeks ago do to poor netting and have lost a few fish that fought like Lakers id have liked to get a look at. It sounds good and promising but if we get a goby die off do to vhs I bet those Lakers won't continue to be pushing such large sizes that they have been
  12. Was just wondering cuz it must've been a cold swim
  13. What's that surface temp at nick?
  14. Here's 3 Brown's caught the same day this winter super awesome the difference in color schemes.
  15. I like the derby and hope it continues but for the sake of it I hope the lake rebounds soon or the derby is going to lose ALOT of participants. I've already spoke to numerous guys who either fished it last year and didn't enter this year or fished it this year and aren't planning to fish it next. And I feel once participation starts dropping those people probably won't return unless the lake makes significant improvement. Let's face it many people bring kids to this as a family trip and it's hard to keep children interested when your struggling to put fish in the boat. And quite frankly is it worth the money that can potentially be won to burn out a child's or newcomers interest from lake fishing?
  16. We got into Brown's like this (colored up nothing near that big) last August and September as well in similar area they were in there pretty thick we slid in to Check the shallower water after we had our fill of bows and were very happy with gorgeous browns wish we could be got one that big. Congrats!
  17. X2 on Orange and gold spoons as well as Orange and yellow we also lost allot of good fish on blue, pink silver color spoons on slide cheaters on our 60 rigger. Probably the rainbows we were looking for. White green dot spin doctors on our dipsys were probably our top dog
  18. Had tourney there yesterday was great fishing Lakers were scattered depths from surface to bottom and over different foot of water. Our best game was right in center of lake at south end but we got fish on everything from 5 colors of leaders to deep dipsys divers or 500 copper. Was great fishing
  19. Don't be afraid to leave your set ups at those depths and just run a little faster right now. 2.6- 3.0 you'll still pick up Lakers but smack nice salmon as Well and zig zag between 100- 250fow instead of hanging on one solid contour
  20. Wow what a fish that's what we spent Saturday and Sunday hunting for with only smaller ones Saturday to show for it. Bet it put up a fight like a king!
  21. Popping fish here and there beautiful morning
  22. There's also this one as well on cayuga
  23. Way to go John hopefully these next few tourneys will be alot easier on us very impressive that's you've finished so great the past 2 tourneys with only fishing a few hours each time
  24. That Tom Margeit memorial is going to be a fun event with alot of boats on the water for sure going to take a BIG box to probably win by ounces that's for sure. There's also one out of south shore marina on owasco June 17th or so
  25. The Tom Margeit memorial fishing derby on Cayuga August 5th aswell. Which is already looking to be a good turn out based on word of mouth. I know it's not for like 2.5 months yet but never to early to consider
