  1. 65 power pro to 40 ft of 30 # , bead ,swivel ,5 ft of 15# ,ball bearing ,lure .
  2. Go down a hook size for more action at lower speeds
  3. Thanks for your honesty It's humbling to post a slow day . And it's just as informative or more so than a glowing report .
  4. Any one know if the campground is open or when it will open ? I assume the launch us open ?
  5. It's a nice thought to be 100% catch and release but that's not possible with deep water trolling . Bringing fish up from very deep , especially on dipsey and long lines , bringing them in the boat , taking hooks out which is hard sometimes , Then a pic , a lot of times is to much stress on them . If I bring them boatside and they aren't hooked good I hang my net back to catch the hooks and rip the hook out while the fish is still in the water or hang over the back of my boat while the fish is,in the water to dehook .
  6. And also on my small boat I have 2 short arms about 6 ft apart with 10# derbies and have not had one tangle fishing down to 85 ft . Your weights are swinging side to side IMO . Real Short leads with very different depth may have the shallow lure catch the blown back line from rod tip to release of the deep rigger . I have had this happen . And I do a lot of tight turning .
  7. When you say Cannon release I assume they are the pinch release on the cable you hook on to the back of the weight . The same thing happened to me last year fishing deep and switching from Offshore to Roemers because the pads in the Offshore wore out and wouldn't hold an 11" flasher . I think the release hooked on the back of the weight holds it straighter and has less of a tendency to swing back and forth .
  8. What don't you some of you guys understand about it being 1 man ? Plenty of Derbys do 2 or more .
  9. I fish a,lot Sept to early Oct for staggers . And the lake is flat a lot . Some years . Have to pick the day , if it's rough ,it's off. If it gets rough , it's off . If I put this together , it's 1 man only . I don't want anyone to feel unsafe or uncomfortable . So if you do, definitely , don't go . Maybe there won't be enough interest to have it . We will see .
  10. I have been trolling the lake since 1976. Used surface speed and I think I did pretty well . My son talked me into getting a X4 . It helps a lot but I don't fish really any different . No down temp? spread your baits out vertically and fish marks / bait . Better to go a little fast than to slow . You can get a surface speed / temp module for probably 40 to 75 $ . And it will help lot . I'm a creature of habit . Depending on what time of year I do the same thing . Once Thermocline sets up I will motor out to my spot 50 or 60 ft and drop lines . Then troll a west north west heading gradually getting deeper till I see fish or hook up . Once I get to say 140 , I make a decision . Head in or go out . Whatever , I troll north and south after that . To me the most important thing is green water . When you go out , look at what depth other boats are to start . Back to the question on how to quickly eliminate dead water ? That's the 64000$ question . And what it's all about .
  11. Media ? I'm hoping we get 10 boats . Not much of a story there . The Lone Anglers A man and his rod The whipping the bishop challenge
  12. By the sounds of it , we should have put the boats on the trailers and headed to the Bar . Would have been worth it . Amazing how it can be so good one port and so bad at another .
  13. There was a time I thought I wanted to get in the tournament circuit . Man I'm glad I did not . My nature is to win so all my fishing time and dollars would be involved with that . I would miss all the other actual fishing I so enjoy . Now that I'm on the water I fish a lot . I don't have the resources to get boat and equipment to compete . Or the time to prep , practice ,etc. So I will fish the LOC when I can and hopefully this small boat thing takes off a little and we can have a few a year for fun .
  14. Back out first light to find cold black water Fished from 70 to 160 . Didn't Mark much , only 1 hit . Something has to change .
  15. Out again this morning , went west out to 170 . Blank screen out there with only one Laker to show for it out there . Came back in to 100. 2 good Lakers latter , I pulled lines and came in to do yard work .
  16. Awesome looking water this afternoon . Current must have moved it in . Nice temp break with scrum line . But nothing on it. Maybe tommorow will be better . Can't count how many time I caught nothing and the next day was great , or vice versa .
  17. Back out this afternoon . Better colored water and nice temp break . 2 nice Lakers and dropped another . 55 and 75 down over 110 . White flasher and my rig and black silver 28
  18. Out this morning to some fog and calm seas Fished 80 to 150 . Hooked 5 Lakers and boated 2 . Fished mostly Flashers and my rigs hoping to call in a king . Hooked 3 on them and 2 on spoons . 75 down and 180 on the diver. Saw marks on bottom I assume were Lakers I tried to stay away from . Water was not as green as I would like to see it . We need a strong west wind for a few days .
  19. X2 on the dimple lights
  20. Is it on ?
  21. Low,octane fuel ?
  22. Probably the motor . I have 2 hanging in my basement . I also cooked the mother board and wired it direct to the switches and it worked for a while .
  23. Last year this time of year solo to 2nd week in June pretty much all I ran was 2 flasher rigs off my riggers . Got a bunch of kings as I could do no wrong . Been using spoons lately and I throw a slide diver / spoon out if it's slow .
  24. You can fish any Derby on the lake legal with 2 + guys . There is nothing for us loners . Yes , low cash entry . Right now it's not about the money . I like the catch and release , that could be done . There is a lot time till September . This is in its infancy . You have to start somewhere . Maybe it gets, bigger . I like one port and limited area so everyone is on a level field .And we keep eye on each other . We all know some ports are better certain days . Love to see this get to 20 + boats .
  25. Must be reading my mind . If there are enough interested , even if it's 5 or 6 , we do it . 2nd Sat or Sun in Sept out of Sandy and see how it goes . Kings only , best 2 . Then we have weigh in and discuss how to go forward . It is common sense to fish the ports that are best at the best times . Maybe a spring Brown Derby at a good brown port . You get the idea . Make it a,club style tourney . RSVP, Show up at the launch , pay your entry and fish . If you don't feel comfy going , don't go .If the forecast is bad , we postpone .
