  1. Working properly and being accurate are two different things... yeah they will function fine with just 1000ft of wire on them. BUT will 100 on the counter really equal 100ft of wire out? Answer is probably not (depending on reel). If you're doing two reels here is what you do to be sure.... Spool 1000ft of wire onto reel #1 (tape the wire to the spool it's just temporary) Add 300ft of 30lb mono on top of the wire Measure out 100ft in your lawn Walk off the 100ft and check your counter If your counter reads 100 at the 100ft mark attach the mono to the spool of reel #2 with arbor knot and wind everything off reel #1 onto reel #2. If your counter is off, add or subtract mono until your counter reads 100 at the 100ft mark, note the amount of line you added/subtracted. Reel #1 onto reel #2. Add that same amount of mono to reel #1 and put your 1000ft of wire on top and you have 2 reels that are dead nuts on.
  2. You know you can use just about anything to connect these? its just a 12v connection, as long as you use the right gauge wire for the riggers you will be fine. My old Mag 10a that came with my boat were wired with Minn Kota trolling motor flush mount plugs and sockets on them. No reason you couldn't use something like this and wire it yourself, these are only rated for 3amps and I'm not sure if these exact ones will work but you get the idea. https://www.wholesalemarine.com/polarized-cable-outlet.html These are what my old ones came with https://www.cabelas.com/product/MINN-KOTA-MKR-V-PLUG-RECEPTICL/1646824.uts?productVariantId=3310004&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=03562403&rid=20&ds_rl=1252079&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsvDwgtiU3AIVWoGzCh32owhyEAQYAyABEgJQK_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  3. Appreciate the info, I will take off the "blinders" and give this a try! I'm only 2yrs into the salmon game so I'm still learning.
  4. When it comes to dipseys I won't run anything less than 30lb... I used to run 20lb and had to may break offs at $25+ a pop. You could prolly get away with 20lb on riggers, but it's easier to keep everything the same imo. Fish have no problems hitting FF rigs and most flies are tied with 50lb flouro.
  5. Bought a fish hawk this year to help me keep my lines in the correct temp zone... having my worst year ever fishing strictly "correct" temp. .I headed out deeper on sat and saw my temp 50ft down go from 55* to 49* so I turned around and went back in shallower only to fish 6hrs for 2 bites and lose both. Not to mention 3+hrs of drive/tow time.
  6. I use small spro swivels, I can't remember the size but they are small enough to be reeled on to the spool. I usually run 30lb flouro for leaders also.
  7. Well makes me feel better that I'm not the only one that made that same mistake... I literally did the exact same thing Friday and fished with BR line Sat. It was just as bad, I've heard people having better luck with 40lb Big Game, I coulda done that for half the price of the BR. I was having to clean my riggers every 20 mins and wire every half hour. I think I had all lines in the water for maybe 15 mins out of every hour, sure takes alot of the fun out of it! Even worse when you mark a fish right where the line you're cleaning was supposed to be!
  8. Fleas were bad Sat, even with 30lb mono on riggers they still piled up to the point it would pull outta the releases. Wire was just as bad, LC and copper weren't nearly as bad thankfully. Had to pull and clean rigger lines every 20 mins, every 30 or so for the wire...got old real quick. Might have fished 15 mins out of every hour with all lines in the water.
  9. I have 2 Scottys triple mount bases, 6 Scottys Powerlock rod holders and 2 Scotty flush mount bases (not the side mounts shown in the picture). Rod holders and triple mounts have been used but the flush mount bases are brand new. $100 for everything
  10. Wire for sure, I use 9’ MH rods, a 30 size linecounter reel with 100yds of 30lb mono backing will be full with 1000’ of wire on top.
  11. Daiwa sealine 47H reel spooled with 10 colors of lead and 30lb braid backing. $60 shipped or trade for a 20 size linecounter reel.
  12. For wire I found rubbing the wire with the backside of a plastic knife makes them fall off in gobs. Doesn't work as well on mono though.
  13. I don’t have room above to attach the releases. High speed riggers and how low my boat/riggers are to the water leaves me with only 4-6” of bare cable after the autostop stops everything. I’d have to install risers if I wanted to attach directly to the cable.
  14. Yeah I’m talking about pinch style releases. Why would having a probe be an issue?
  15. Yeah I kinda figured I could prolly get away with something like that since the cable would see almost no significant load where I would have to worry about it. I didn't think about TSC though, I'll have to check there.
  16. So one of my rigger releases pulled out of the crimp on the leader this past weekend. I have been wanting longer ones for a while (mine are only prolly 8-10" long), what do you guys use for leader material? Any issues with using something like a 36" leader to the release? I was looking and thinking about using some 1/16" commercial grade cable (vinyl coated) I saw on Lowes website, I also thought I remember reading about ppl using weedwacker string. I looked into that and all the string I saw was a hex shape and I wasn't sure how that would hold up in the crimp. Also I don't have a heavy duty swaging tool, only a small crimper that you would use for electrical wire. The heavy duty hand swagers are kind of expensive and I have been fishing for years and never needed one before and don't really wanna buy one and never need it again... any suggestions on this?

  18. Sliders on your riggers are a good way to get more lines in the water without going broke. I sent you a PM with some stuff I have laying around you might be able to use.
  19. Shimano Tekota 700 is pretty close to the 55 size, the Tekota 800 is larger. They are opposite ends of the price spectrum but the Tekota is a LC.
  20. I was wondering the same thing? I guess if you buried the line deep in the release or wrapped it around the release? That could cause the line to break when I fish hit i guess... I have never found a need to put the line in more than halfway personally. I also twist the line 3-4 times and then put the loop in the release, never had anything break on me and I have only ever used the pinch style releases.
  21. Fair Haven Beach State park you could just pay the $16 and get a campsite for the night and park there with no issues. The launch is right there in the park anyway, not to mention day use/launch fee is I think $10 and would be included if you got a campsite.
  22. Ill be out in Mexico Saturday in my 18 footer... figure I should be ok until about 10-11am. By then the 80*+ temps will have me off the water anyway. 6am-11am looks to be under 10mph which is my cut off point for if I fish or not.
