  1. Two weeks ago we did well in 120-160 fow straight out of mexico... 5 Kings, 2 lakers, 1 brown. Caught one of the lakers on a 3 color in 150 fow. We were getting the kings down like 50-60ft.
  2. Depends on what your running... FF usually short leads ~25ft, for spoons I use longer leads ~75ft
  3. Any of you guys have their 90* swivel base? Kind of curious what that is? I see no benefit in being able to rotate them in 90* increments if that is what they do. I don't usually run more than 2 boards plus riggers (usually only me +1 fishing), even for walleye so I'm leaning towards the doubles.
  4. I got a price on a pair of doubles with caps and fixed bases... $181 shipped just fyi
  5. I'm assuming you guys are talking about the mainline for big planers correct? I run inline boards so that shouldn't be an issue for me.
  6. Just an FYI, I got more info on pricing of the triples. $65 without caps or swivel base $97 with caps and swivel bases $205.64 pair with caps, swivel bases and tax $39 shipping charge $244.64 for a pair with caps and bases with shipping and tax. Still half the price of Berts, but slightly more than I initially thought.
  7. Just ran across these the other day, they look identical to Bert's triple trees and are 1/3 the price! I called them and they are still in business making them. From what they said the tubing is scrap from the docks they make and that is why they can sell them so cheap. Anyone have any experience with them? http://www.madsdocks.com/shop/Item/pmpoletree
  8. Not sure what you're saying in that first sentence? What kind of retrieve problems are you having?
  9. Anyone out there running a CHIRP Helix unit? I had my settings dialed in last year but decided to use my helix on the ice this winter. Needless to say I changed all the settings and can't remember or figure out what I had them at last year. I have it set decent right now but I feel like it worked much better last year. Anyone willing to share their settings just so I can compare?
  10. I wired mine to my fuse panel (5 amp) and used the supplied 1 amp in-line fuse and my works fine. Wish I saw Sk8tman's picture of his transducer install before I did mine though... I was concerned about the fish hawk being so close and interfering with the SI capabilities of my Helix transducer so I installed another board on the opposite side and mounted it over there. It works fine but like most others I hate drilling holes my boat!
  11. 2 Okuma Magda Pro 30 spooled with 1000' wire and Power handles, along with 2 8'6" Okuma GLT Rods with twili tips. Pickup only Located in Rome, NY $150. Caught plenty of fish on these setups and never had an issue.
  12. Just an FYI this is the best price I have found on new ones if you decide to go that route, comes with tattle flag kit and upgraded front clips already installed. https://www.franksgreatoutdoors.com/off-shore-combo-bag.html
  13. Couple things to consider imo when looking for a new finder on a smaller boat. I'm guessing with a 16ft boat in your sig that full-blown auto-pilot isn't something your looking for correct? Do you have an electric trolling motor? Brand? I ask because both Lowrance and Humminbird are more compatible with a specific brand trolling motor (HB/Minn Kota and Lowrance/Motorguide) Lot of ppl will use bow mounted TM as autopilot of sorts on a smaller boat. Do you need/want down/side imagining? SI/DI is about the cost of going to the next screen size up so really consider if it is something you really want. Personally I have an 18ft boat, Minn Kota Terrova with iPilot Link connected to a HB Helix 9 and love it. I also have a Helix 7 SI/DI and almost never use the SI/DI, for the same price I wish I got another non-imaging Helix 9.
  14. I also recommend the fish hawk TD, but first I would look at getting your counters working. It's a pretty simple system, either the counter itself is bad, the small gear is bad or it isn't lined up properly. A new counter/gear combo is pretty cheap and would be where I started once you confirmed the alignment is good. https://www.fish307.com/cannon-downrigger-part-0220477-depth-counter-3-digit/ https://www.fish307.com/cannon-downrigger-part-0833561-gear-counter/
  15. I have a couple 30 size Magdas with Tuna Toms CF drag washer upgrade and power handles, I use them when I run 4 dipseys in summer time. They haven't let me down yet, they were my main wire dipsey setups when I first started and have caught a good number of fish. Magdas aren't the greatest (specifically the LC portion) but the reel is far from junk.
  16. I use the Auto-pilot function on my Terrova trolling motor, does very well in normal conditions. Not sure how well it would work in some serious wind/waves though.
  17. I usually "tune" my LC atleast once a year because of this. I measure out 100' on the lawn and make sure that my LC says 100 when I reach that spot. It's an easy fix if all you need to do is remove line, if you need to add line that is the tricky part. Usually if I'm +/- 5' I call it good. If it's short but not by enough to justify re-spooling I put a small label on the reel and write down the number I need the LC to say to actually reach 100'. I know a guy that used to take his rods down to the local high school football field so he could do this out to 300'.
  18. Lol what are you interested in? This is a WTB (Want To Buy) ad. I’m looking to buy a couple reels.
