  1. I was trolling erie one trip. saw this large sail boat off to my right. the direction he was going it looked like we might get close. so I adjusted course to my right. everyrhing looked good. I looked back a few minutes later and the sail boat had went to his left which put us back on a collision course. so I turned back to my left putting me on course to be gone when he got there. a few minutes passed and I looked again. now he was bearing down on me and closing fast. it didnt matter which way I turned he adjusted course towards my boat. when he finely got to me we had to use our hands and push off on the side of his boat. I have never even come close to hitting a sail boat before or after. it didnt matter which way I tried to go he ended up almost sinking us. what else could I have done except maybe pulling rods and turning around and going back the way we came.
  2. the only ones I know of that has a below vertical setting is the traxstech ratcheting holder. it has 17 positions up and down. I have the cannon on my boat and love the one hand operation. I just bought one of the traxstech holders. going to see which ones I like beat.
  3. any boat you buy needs to be water tested. DONT BUY IN COLD WEATHER. I bought my last boat in cold weather and wasnt able to put it on the water. big mistake. it sounded good on the trailer. but ended up buying a new motor. I have a 21' cobia open bow and its great on erie. but I wish it was an outboard. you can fish later and earlier in the yr with an outboard. you can boat all yr with an outboard. I/o has to be above freezing to use it.
  4. don't know how far you are willing to travel. but you might call karrens shop in Geneva ohio. she has a shop in the back of a house. her stock is dedicated to the walleye fisherman. I have bought everything from planer boards to seaguar fluro leader. check it out.
  5. I use 13# pancake weights for fishing up to 65' on erie for eyes. get very little blow back.
  6. try setting your drags a little looser. and don't try to rush fish in. just remember the closer the fish is to the boat the less forgiving your line is, set drag accordingly.
  7. never seen the need for glue with a double uni knot.
  8. I use uni to uni. I use to use a blood knot but then I tried the uni to uni and I like it much better.
  9. no the double axis to adjust the left and right you can onlu adjust from one pin hole to the next pin hole. on the single axis you can make adjustments as little as 1/16 or as much as 35 degrees in either direction. just loosen the holder put the holder where you want and tighten down. sometimes when running divers its nice to be able to make a small adjustment. with the duel axis you have no choice but to go all the way to the next pin hole.
  10. if you have to buy new be sure and check out amazon.com for prices. I have both duel axis and single axis. I like the single axis the best.
  11. i believe those are white perch. i hate those things. is the lower lip purple??
  12. im another chamberlain release stacker guy. it just clips on the cable and locks down then when it bumps the pulley it releases and drops down the cable.
  13. for just holders i have my tracks mounted with ss screws and they are very solid. i lifted my 220#'s off the ground and bounced a few times on the end of a couple of holders. but for riggers i still wouldn't trust them without backing plates or at least using fender washers as backing and bolt all the way through the gunnel. its better to be safe than sorry.
  14. fishusa is good amazon is good ebay can be good galeforcetackle.com is the best place I've found for harnesses and spoons.
  15. a hand held has very limited range. i wouldn't recommend any hand held for lake erie.
  16. you can get a great Daiwa sealine sg27lc3bl left hand reel off ebay for around 100.00 each. or another great reel for the money is the accudepth plus adp27lcbl reel at around 65.00 on ebay. the sealine is a little better reel but the accudepth plus will serve you well for less money. if your budget still don't allow then the Okuma magda pro left hand for about 50.00 on ebay is a cheaper option but not as good of a reel as the Daiwa.
  17. as a matter of fact he bought me 2 cups of coffee. was that you?
  18. yes he was happy to get them. and your going to not want to believe this but the last boat i bought came with 2 scotty holders and i gave them to him also. i also just upgraded my radio to one with built in gps. i asked if he needed my old radio, and he did. all it cost him for the holders and radio was shipping. i sure was glad i could help a new guy out.
  19. i can feel where your coming from. I've been there and done that. thats the reason i used the tite loc holders myself. then i invested in a set of cabelas quickdraw rod holders. they were great until i started running divers. then i was just a little worried that they might break and lose a rig. and thank god i had a little money and invested in the cannon holders. but they was like 60 bucks a pop then for the single axis which is the ones i like best. there like 80.00 now on amazon plus the tracks. i started getting mine off ebay then finished up at amazon.
  20. i really don't want to slam your rod holders but tite lok isn't even in the same class as cannon ratcheting holders. i used tite loc's for awhile. but i just gave what i had to another fisherman a couple of weeks ago. after going to the cannon i have never been so pleased with a rod holder.
  21. i just bought the electronic flare for 99.00 then found the sos beacon kit at cabelas for 89.00. i also bought refills for my flare gun. found then on ebay for 18.00. i always keep the last flares i bought and throw the older ones out.
  22. wild wings is where you want to launch this time of yr. the fish are spawning on the reefs now but later will spread out around the islands. then the migration starts and huge schools move east. i fish Geneva in the central basin starting around the 10th of july and the fish are usually there by then.
  23. they have them on ebay for 30.00 with free shipping. hope this helps.
  24. i have the cannon single axis holders and tracks. i like the single axis because you can do smaller side to side adjustments up to 70 degrees. i love the one hand operation on the cannon. just squeeze the holder and put them down or raise them while holding the rod with the other hand. then just grab the rod and lift to ratchet them back up and lift the rod out. if i was looking to buy now i would look at the traxstech ratcheting holder. my cannon holders has like 5 or 6 up and down adjustments. the traxstech has 17 adjustments up and down, but takes both hands to put them down. and the cost is around 125.00 each. the cannon is 78.00 for single axis 88.00 for double axis. and i love my cannons.
