Fishing eggs in our streams and rivers
LongLine replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I also agree with YT. Some will side step the issue with "what about..." The issue is whether trout eggs should be legal, period. I agree, ban them. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Throwable life cushion of buoyant heaving line for the St Lawrence
LongLine replied to Senor Snagger's topic in This Old Boat
Probably not. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Start out with NK28 size spoons. Northern King, Dreamweavers, Stingers are in just about everyone's arsenal. Greens, Silvers, Oranges and Glows. Adjust your boat speed so you get a good "wobble." Tom B. (LongLine)

You can use wing-nuts just as long as you use something a lot more than your fingers to tighten them. Tom B. (LongLine)

Don't forget to register your trailer. Can be done online at NYS DMV site or go to local office. If at local office, your town gets to keep a buck or two on it. Tom B. (LongLine)

Go to a craft store (like micheals) and get a bottle of "Un-do". It's for removing stickers. Works great and won't mess up plated or painted lure surfaces. Tom B. (LongLine)

What a dress could tell us about what fish see
LongLine replied to Gill-T's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Fish have more cones in their eyes than humans do. The cones are what allows animals to distinguish color. Fish can see well into the ultraviolet range and somewhat into the infra-red. Which is why they can distinguish red well deeper than fishermen give them credit for. How far down they can see gold is anyone's guess. I imagine gold just appears as a flash, just as the dress was to some of you guys. Who was looking at the dress anyways? Tom B. (LongLine) -
Phil wanted to get back in that hole so quick he bit the mayor's ear!

I like Marciano followed by Dave C. I'd like to have just the money they have tied up in those reels, much less the boats. Did you know that Dave (dot com) is a commercial airlines pilot? Tom B. (LongLine)

Trying to get my stick baits to run right
LongLine replied to topeye's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The way I tune a stick is to tie it on the line; let out 6-8 ft of line. Put it on the port side of the boat and look at it. Then put it on the starboard side. If it looks the same on both sides, you're ready to go. It not then tweak the eyelet. Sometimes 1 hit can knock it out of whack. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Trying to get my stick baits to run right

A tight knot like a palomar or clinch will take some action out of the plug. A loop knot will allow it to swing as it's tuned. Tom B. (LongLine) -
You don't need a parachute to skydive...only if you want to do it again.

illegal fish and the newspaper is too stupid to realize it
LongLine replied to tbulhead's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I don't know how you get they're too liberal...too hard to find any news among all the ads. They could probably have gotten last Sunday's issue onto 1 1/2 pages if it wasn't for the ads. Tom B. (LongLine) -

It'll be good to see another Bluefin at the Genny. Mine's 18 ft. Weather permitting & the launch has been cleared, end of March should do the trick.. Make sure you watch out for debris in the fast current. Tom B. (LongLine)

I've never seen a game where a ref doesn't handle the ball before every play. In fact it's the same ref that spots the ball on the line of scrimmage regardless of who has possession. The ref couldn't tell after the first exchange of possession? Maybe football refs could learn something from baseball umps. The umps are very conscious of the ball. Tom B. (LongLine)

At least they didn't stand in the endzone playing with theirs like Lynch did.... On the other hand the balls were inspected during halftime by the refs. Why not caught then? or were they caught then, thus they whomped the colts in the 2nd half with properly inflated ones? Each team is supposed to play with their own so do they kick off with their own or do they use the receiving teams ball? If they kick with their own, why didn't the colt kickoff receiver notice anything? If they kick with the other teams ball, why didn't the Colt kicker notice it? Kind of makes you think a little. Add a swivel to Spoons?
LongLine replied to Senor Snagger's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
It all depends on the snap you're using. If they're well rounded then no ring necessary. If you're using small somewhat pointed snaps then yes put a ring on your spoons. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Salmon limits remain at 5 on Lake Michigan in 2015
LongLine replied to Legacy's topic in LOUnited For Change
I would think the logical thing to do if the alewife population is dwindling is to raise the salmon limit. (?) But that is not spelled out. Tom B. (LongLine)
