  1. Sea-IV, You have more tolerance for BS than I do. If I ran a charter business, I would allow beer and wine only, and a set amount per person. As someone who doesn't drink, I can't stand to be around someone who is sloppy drunk and confrontational, and then be responsible for their safety. If you needed to drink that much to have fun, you would have to find another charter. Just my $.02
  2. I also started with pancake weights, and had the same tangle issues others describe. Changed to the heavy Atomic torpedo weights, last Friday fished 2 riggers, boom tips 11 feet apart, 135 and 150 down in the currents off Braddocks Bay. Never had a tracking issue.
  3. Ran out of Braddocks for a few hours this morning looking for kings. Riggers were parked with 130 to 150 feet of cable out to hit temps in the 50's. We worked 100 to 350 with only one hit, 18 lb. king on a bullfrog paddle with a green glow fly. All the bait was below 125. The good news, my nephew picked up his first Lake Ontario King
  4. I've used the "double single" rig since the late 80's, tie my own rigs, and have been happy with the results. The trick for me is to have the rear hook hanging exposed behind the fly or squid.
  5. That's the ticket!!
  6. Here are a few graphics from a study on lake Huron a couple of years back. The kings were caught and implanted with data storage tags, retrieved later by fishermen catching the tagged fish. It clearly shows how the salmon moved out of prefered temps. in the late summer and fall. The second chart shows depth movement.
  7. Sea-IV, They do make a box for the big boards... DREAMWEAVER PADDLE FILE MODEL 99905 Dreamweaver offers innovative storage solutions for your tackle. Dreamweaver makes it easy to store and find your tackle. The PADDLE File is designed to hold 20 OF YOUR BIG PADDLES in a secure box, allowing easy access with the simple lift of a lid.
  8. Model DW99901. Will this box also work with other 8" paddles ? .... Pro Troll, Hot Spot, etc. Thanks, JIm
  9. THIS is how you dock a boat..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qHdPhkSSNQ
  10. Great Lakes cruise ship...seen at the port of Rochester many times
  11. I fish solo most of the time, and I've given the Autotether a good look, but can't bring myself to trust my life to a battery powered gizmo. I have a cutoff switch like Sk8man shows above. The red cuttoff cord is attached to a heavy 1" wide webbed strap about 7 feet long ( I have a small boat), and clipped onto the back strap of my auto inflate pfd. I can move around the boat with no problems. If I go over, the cord pulls out stopping the motor, the pfd inflates to pop me up like a cork, and I have a folding ladder on the transom to get back in the boat. Should I be cold, injured, or not have the strength to climb the boarding ladder, ( I'm old now), My Merc outboard has a trim switch on the side of the motor to help out. I can hug the motor with my feet on the cavatation plate, hit the trim switch, and the motor will tilt up almost horizontal and I can slide off the motor into the boat. A co-worker used this method a few years ago spring fishing from his bass boat in cold water. With the heavy, wet clothes, he couldn't pull himself back in the boat after he fell off, but used the big Merc outboard and trim switch to lift him back to safety. Just my $.02
  12. Put a squid body in a JDF bait head, and add your favorite scent. .
  13. I have been using Slide Divers since the came out...... never seen anything like this.
  14. I can't understand the logic behind this business move.... take a spoon that is clearly stamped "stingray", re-package it as a "Big Jon Fin Fighter", and double the price.... no one will ever figure this out... Bad news travels fast on the interweb.. as I type this, over 200 members have already seen this thread ...

  16. This, plus an Airmar P66 transducer..... well within your price range http://www.hodgesmarine.com/FURUNO-LS6100-FISHFINDER-p/furls6100.htm
  17. Sweet Rig !!
  18. + 1 for Manitou Beach access. The platform extends over the water a bit, and water depth in that area in 10 - 12 ft. deep. .. nice view of the bay and lake . Also a platform on North Greece road where it crosses Buttonwood creek. Many areas around the Erie Canal are also accessable.
  19. I have one on my 17ft. Starcraft. Overtons has a number of sizes and materials available. I got mine from them.
  20. I have a 90 hp. 2 stroke and changed from 19 pitch to 17 pitch to slow down for cold water spring fishing. Slowest speed with 19 pitch was 2.6 MPH, 17 pitch slowed to 1.8 MPH. I switched back to 19 pitch, as top speed was a problem for me traveling longer distances on Lake Ontario. I would suggest 2 trolling bags, giving you options depending on current and wind direction. Many boats on the Great lakes use this set up. Good Luck Jim S.
  21. I think the year of the boat doesen't matter as much as condition. My '96 is stored inside year round since new. I've had a few guys at the launch ask if it's been re-painted or re-powered....... they are shocked when I tell them it;s all original. It may well be a jewel waiting to be polished... A test ride is a must. Outboards can idle fine in the driveway, but have problems under load. Good luck!
  22. Sea Foam...
  23. I learned how to fish the big lake on my friend's 1994 Super Fisherman.... Boat was around $15,000 new with a 115 hp. 2- stroke ELPTO. I purchased a 1996 17 ft. Super Fisherman new, with a 90 hp. Merc, and still have it.
  24. Fish Doctor Charters out of Oswego is one of the best brown trout fishermen on the lake. He has some great videos and articles on brown trout fishing on his website and blog.
  25. On a 3 hook bait, I remove the front hook, and replace the back hook with one size larger. On a 2 hook bait, I replace the rear hook with one size larger. All replacements are Owner #ST-41 hooks. I'm sure you will get a dozen different opinions on this one.....
